A question on emergency repair tape; ...

Not for "in" my repair kit, but dangling on outside - usually....

May I ask for some commentary re prior experience with best-quality emergency repair tape for SHTF situations.

I have both Gaffer Power Steel tape and Fiber Fix Wrap.

Forgot applicable to which tape above, must make decision about "tear-ability" of tape for rapid repairs at night in wet conditions. One of the above tapes requires cutting off of roll; cannot be torn.

Any and all help appreciated. Merci / thank you in advance.

Tape is okay for minor repairs but not for anything really important, i'll go with Keith and natural materials, besides how long will the roll of tape last, what then when you've run out? natural stuff is self renewing.

Good morning Keith and Lone Wolf,

My apology. I did not write clearly.

The "dangling" was not "fleshed-out". My question relates to while evacuating and I'm carrying a repair kit as part of my loadout.

I did see a light aircraft that had been torn up by a bear get repaired with duct tape, & he was actually able to fly this plane out of there & get home! It did take a lot of tape, which this bloke got flown out & dropped near his site in the bush.

Let no one speak disparagingly of duct tape in the presence of a Southern man. Whereas I loathe the very concept of using tape as repair mechanism, duct tape (& gaffer's tape a close second) is a notable exception.

Duct tape is, in a word, Holy.

In the American South, a.k.a. Dixie, duct tape holds a place of unique honor and reverence. Thou shalt not enter a hardware store and say, "Where's the duct tape?" You will cause people to stare at you with disgust, even anger!

Thou hast been non-specific, thus hideously irreverent. Better, "Where is the orange and black duct tape with the Graceland image?"

In the South, duct tape comes in 2705 varieties ... and don't you forget it!

the Duct tape/Gaffa tape whatever you want to call it we get these days is frankly a load of rubbish, its also getting very expensive, I have been using farmers sileage tape for any important jobs.
I wouldn't use it post SHTF i'll use cordage from nature, inner bark makes good cordage and withies make good wire.

    Good morning Lone Wolf,

    Appreciate reply with info.

Not familiar with farmers' sileage tape; will research at least so as to know what it is.

Here, for evac prep, cordage from nature not appropriate. Time is of the essence for emergency repairs while enroute to anywhere. My repair kit is

a large pouch attached to my equipment harness (kit).
