AND the reporter was concerned if the safe guards would hurt the squirrels. Wonder what she figured would happen when the squirrel completed a circuit?

    LOL

    TMT, you made my day.

And when there's no electricity, the volunteers won't be driving to the local animal shelter to deliver some food and and and.

Our highly educated socialists can never understand the important aspects of civilization.

the easiest way to keep squirrels off anything is to shoot the blighters! not much meat on a British squirrel but quantity will make up for that.

A good pellet rifle or 22 Lr and the squirrel problems can certainly be trimmed down to size. A solid win -win for all but the squirrels.

We have two types of squirrels here. The cat and the fox. The cat squirrels are small and it takes a half dozen or more to make a meal but the fox squirrels are a lot bigger and better eating. The problem with squirrels and rats is that their teeth never stop growing and so even when they are not hungry like when the fruits are ripe and food is easy, soft and plentiful, they still have to knaw on hard things to keep their teeth worn down and sharp. If they don't the teeth will get much too long and dysfunctional and kill them. The little buggers will chew on wires and cause lots of electrical shorts and home firs when they get into attics. Since we don't have snow here the pole transformers are somewhat open on top and they will crawl in there and OOOPS!! fried squirrel and blackout.

They actually can be quite entertaining. If you put up a bird feeder the squirrels will raid it and trying to keep them out of it has become an entertaining pastime for many and almost an industry in itself. They make one that is a hoot to watch. It is on a pole with an electric motor. Birds are light and don't activate it but when a squirrel gets on it the entire thing starts to spin until the squirrel is thrown off.

I know one guy that turned his backyard into a squirrel circus. He kept adding things to keep the squirrels off his bird feeder and when they would master that he would add a new step. It now looks like some sort of above ground maze and circus and in the evening it is a hoot to put out the food and then watch the squirrels run the gauntlet.
