Thunderbolts strike when least expected. Some areas seen to be more prone to the same than others. Some of the precautions I have learned over time include not sheltering under trees or walking with pointed objects facing upwards. But even with these, casualties are still being recorded. Are there other ways of ensuring safety against thunderbolts when one is outdoors?

It's impossible to completely eliminate. There are some basic precautions one can take, such as those you mentioned, but ultimately part of it is just down to luck. Something which you have no control over.
