Pre - U.S. Civil War Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a fictional book called " Uncle Tom's Cabin " . This was a propaganda book that even Abraham Lincoln refered to the Civil War being caused by this phony book . I am not sure whether this fact is being taught anymore in our schools as now everything is geared to teach kids to hate the White Race . It was certainly taught in history books when I went to school . The result of people reading this garbage was angry people " mainly Northerners " with no first hand knowledge of the plantations , became angry and took up arms against the Southerners . Thus the South was invaded . The result was approximately 750,000 deaths . And this is when the population in the U.S. wasn't that large ----Today big dollars are being spent to promote propaganda to create anger in the U.S. " and even world wide anger " based on lies . We can see it on this forum . I would like our members to give their sources of news . Perhaps we can get more people thinking in the same realm of what is reality .

Yes the south was invaded . Fort Sumter was on southern soil and the north kept troops there simply to light a fuse and gain an excuse to invade the south . The northern troops waited until the southern milita fired a few shots , then they claimed to surrender and marched back north .

I mentioned on another thread but will mention again , I recommend going directly to the source and view an unaltered version of the truth regardless whether you are a liberal , communist , socialist , patriot ,conservative or any other label you might put on yourself and make your own judgement . Go to Donald Trumps twitter and see what he is actually saying . A word of caution however . The lying media has set up fake Donald Trump look alike twitter feeds to fool people into reading fake tweets and putting Donald Trump in a bad light so make sure you go to "Donald J.Trump @real Donald Trump " and once you have found the real feed put it on your favorites so you will not be misdirected to a fake tweet in the future . The very fact that there is fake Donald Trump twitter feeds should be prof enough that there are people that do NOT want you to read his actual tweets and should make anyone more determined to read them . Compare what he actually says to what some of the news outlets claim he said or did .

Actually, both sides during the Civil War had their own best sellers, both "phony" in that they were fiction based on some sort of basic historical reality, and both geared to their specific audience. Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-seller in the North while the other was the best-seller in the South during the same period.

The hero of one is the ultimate meek-and-mild codependent Uncle Tom whose story is well-known. The other hero was a brave warrior fighting for his freedom and honor from a race of foreign invaders who were subjugating his culture and people. Both were, of course, chock-full of racial overtones ('pure and decent' underclass and arrogant and powerful over-class) with a classic good-vs-evil story, and both are considered classics and still read today.

Would anyone care to tell me the name of the other hero?

    Good morning Duncan,

I've spend 2 hours thinking about this.

I have not yet even narrowed it down to the creator/author. I'm focused on James Randell and Walt Whitman.

    You've got me working.

    Good morning Polt,

    A trivia point re Ft Sumter;

The Confederate commander ordering the attack on the fort was not a slave-owner. The defensing US Army commander was.

The book was not written for the South per se; indeed, it wasn't even written by an American. Nonetheless, it was a best-seller in the CSA both before, during, and (to a lesser extent) after the Civil War, and was revered and enjoyed by Southerners. For many, it embodied the antebellum Southern mythos.

Today's news stories begin with an actual event and end up in raw fiction heavy laden with propaganda.

Show me unedited photos. Show me the uncut videos.

Note how the mainstream media rapes the word "teen". Witness the phrase "gun violence" -- the firearm loaded, aimed, and pulled its own trigger.

Here are photos of some teenagers celebrating a sports victory:

Honest phraseology would include words such as "looting" and "robbery".

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

Forgot his name ... was it the late California Professor of Language Hayakawa or a similar ethnic Japanese name of a US Senator from Hawaii ? This was discussed in the national public arena and am guessing suppressed.

About a year or so ago I read a long article in one of the New York magazine - New Yorker ? Harpers ? one of the pseudo-literary ... I refuse to use the word "liberal". They're well beyond that ......

The article was on the demise of the American shopping mall. Again, it was a long article and covered the issues to include customer safety and the related.

This long article had no mention of the word "wilding".

The political establishment has a VERY DIFFICULT and DELICATE matter to resolve.

Regarding the Southern literary "hero": His name was Wilfred; to be more precise: Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe.

    Several good points you make.

I really like the word "wilding"; it is a shorter form of "going wild". Efficient, cuts to the chase. Humans can be civilized. Animals cannot ascend above wild. Some critters such as dogs (dumbed-down wolves) can be tamed, however that behavior is usually only a veneer atop wild. We have a strong heavy dog that can flip into wolf mode in a New York minute.

    "wilding"
"a slang term that refers to the practice of marauding in bands to terroize strangers and to swagger and bully"
    https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wilding

On the subject of shopping malls and violence, I have dark emotions. This due to some instances where monsters have sexually attacked female store employees (teachers are today being raped in inner city schools). I can't deal with the topic. I go past furious. Now that I'm old, I have to watch my blood pressure.

Not exactly a mall, however downtown Chicago now gets mob attacks on any civilized human stupid enough to go there after dark. A beach just north of Chicago occasionally gets raided by gangs/mobs -- one major incident couldn't be covered up by the media. The following is more common:
    https://wgntv.com/2019/04/17/over-30-teens-taken-into-custody-in-downtown-chicago/

As far as resolving these matters, I do not think such is any longer possible. If citizens defend themselves, there will be national calls to disarm the "vigilantes". If you defend yourself against a mob of "youths", you are an aggressor and a racist. Can't win. Most American cities will end up like Detroit even if the SHTF event(s) take a few years to play-out.

Here are some decay scenes from Chicago:

Here are some fly-over views of Chicago. Looks like the aftereffects of war.

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=detroit+abandoned+lots+fly-over&atb=v140-1&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images

All major urban areas in America are going to be destroyed and it won't take a nuclear war to accomplish this.

It's totally beyond my comprehension how any person aware of the devolution of our economy and culture would continue to live in a large city.

Now I tell anyone who will listen that "the State of Idaho is a terrible place to live, with no freedoms, ugly views, and nasty people. Tell all your friends."

For the rest of you: come on up while you can.

    Good morning Old Geezer,

Ref the "aftereffects of war": Driving from VA Medical Center via city streets to reach the Interstate Highway entrance approximates the scenery of looking at WWII pictures of the bombed Dresden. The Richmond places still have roofs and windows (with bars) but it's a real war scene.

EXACTLY ! Destruction won't be by nuclear war. It's self-destruction.

as far as propaganda is concerned the only source of this is government and politician led, it is well known in the UK that the BBC is biased in favour of the left.

Thank you for sharing that. I was going as crazy as Pragmatist, and in one regard I found the question patently unfair. Looking at the authors of that time is like looking at a Literary Hall of Fame. How could you pick one? It is like asking which child you love the most. There were a couple that caught my eye that looked like they could be possible.

I lived in Oregon for a number of years. They had the same feelings about people moving there and in fact had billboards that stated Come visit Oregon! Spend your money then please go back home.

Referring to Oregon’s tourist industry in a 1971 speech, McCall may have first publicly voiced his famous “Come visit, don’t stay” slogan: “I urge them to come and come many, many times to enjoy the beauty of Oregon. But I also ask them, for heaven’s sake, don’t move here to live.”
