One prepper fellow asked me the other night about scramblers for two way radios....

I know of one type of scrambler for the microphones of two way radios though I am sure there are many types at different costs.

The one I used to have was hooked up in line with your microphone...and was a type of audio inverter.

It would flip the audio around 180 degrees.

For those of you who do not know...this means that if you have a radio with Single Sideband Modes....you can flip to the appropriate Single Sideband mode and tune in the audio with your clarifier knob and listen in . These scramblers are not that secure.

You members do what you want with this informations. No cover charge..Free!!!

For your information a somewhat simpler method of security in two way radio operations would be using Split Frequency operation.

This means that you transmit on one frequency or channel..and receive on another. The other party receives on your transmit frequency and transmits on your receive frequency. A bit complex for many but training can overcome such difficulties...practice.

Best to have a set of pre-arranged frequencies by which one can go if needed. Even an alternate back up set of frequencies as well....

    Your choice...but knowledge is power.....

Also I suggest...practicing to make the distance when using split frequency on as low a power setting as possible if this can be done with your type of radios.

Food for though and as I stated...knowledge is power...

    You members decide for yourselves.

Asked one of my sons. He said, No you can't use anything that prevents Big Brother from listening-in on.

    No scrambling, no encryption.

You can xmit digitally, but anyone with a digital receiver instantly hears you.

For intel/command xmit/rec, you'll have to develop pre-arranged innocuous conversations. Don't use weather conditions as code because if you say, "Storm-clouds are forming and in reality it's bright sunny day out, then they know they've been made." :p

Don't confuse your team. Were I using complaints as code and said that my ears are ringing, they would be confused. "Holy crap, he's always complaining about his tinnitus!" As I sit here, my left ear is ringing like the Bells of St. Mary's. No code, just the bloody truth! :(
