    That article is NOT about longer lasting cell. It about higher energy density. You can't made Li-ion last significantly longer than its currently today, because Li-ion cell need working electronic in each cell to regulate everything (preventing it from become unstable), and that electronic need to be fed from the cell own power, not to mention the internal chemical reaction itself

    If you need long lasting secondary battery, use Deep-cycle battery (lead-acid)

    Good afternoon Varuna,

    Quadruple the charge in some sense means longer lasting.

    If an electric car battery has 4 times more capacity and the business contract requires enough to start the car, there is extra capability. To some, this means longer lasting.

    Do note that the article discusses a prototype. A JASU - Jet Assisted Starting Unit - is not needed for an electric car. Longer lasting batteries are what's needed.

    I seriously doubt this new cell technology is going to made Lithium-ion cell hold 4x charge. Its more about producing it using different chemical make-up. Also keep in mind that the term "Li-ion" is also a generic term that cover a very broad spectrum of cell chemical composition, meaning a Li-ion cell from one brand doesn't always has the same chemical make-up with cell from another brand and that still doesn't count the individual chipset embedded in them. Furthermore each of those chemical make-up were designed to operate differently, for example you got cell that is good for slow steady discharge / charging, or cell that is good for more rapid,, fluctuating discharge / charging. Every brand design their cell for different usage, it just they never advertised about it.

    Good morning Varuna,

    Much of these articles for public consumption use terms with very broad spectrum for the readers.

    When the specific Lithium - ion R&D is reviewed in tandem with the other different battery type research, it - might - show some storage increases.

    Storage is a big theme for doing this sponsored research.
