Either they need future proof Sea Wall (150 - 200 years ahead) or better start building floating city. The way I see it floating settlement is cheaper than building sea wall not to mention future proof.

    That's it !

A floating city; another Bandar Seri Begawan.

I have a hunch the area is going to be "let go". If time permits, look up the cancelled "Cross Florida Barge Canal".

Actually my idea of a floating city revolves around this concept

The technology is already there, only need to replace the hull with barge and start building office, shopping mall, apartments, etc on top of it.

You can already get cheap passage on world cruises that have onboard shops for most of your needs.

Climate change? Give me a break. I've been hearing that old trope for 50 years. My family has owned a marina since the 1950's and I can promise you that there has been no sea rise in that time.

If a place is given to being little more than a swamp, then don't live there.

Screw the Florida keys. Screw New Orleans.

If you live next to King Neptune's blue provinces, then you are rolling the dice. Tsunamis are inevitable, it's just a question of time as to when they'll scrape major metropolitan areas off the continents and into the depths of the oceans. One day, the majority of the people of Holland are going to be killed en mass in a matter of minutes. Many will gasp. I won't.

America's Sodom and Gomorrah, San Fransisco and Los Angeles, are going to be turned into flotsam.

Although certain numbers of casualty is to be expected it is extremely unlikely there will be massive casualty. Even during de Watersnoodramp the majority of the population survive and these days there is also Deltawerken and other projects as additional layer to withheld flood in case similar calamity befall happen again.

    Good morning Varuna,

It's not a technology matter. Whether floating or stationary, like the North Sea Brent Charlie drilling platform, it's mostly a financial matter.

If someone wants to live in the Florida Keys or the Comoros Islands or the Maldives ... just arrange for the residency documents and bring money.

Prior to discussing Deltawerken, understand the implications of the cancelled Cross Florida Barge Canal, Yankeetown to Jacksonville. Public sector resources, to include financing, will now be allocated for best results.

Those seeking publicly - funded, warm weather and scenic living conditions can move to Cuba.

Here is a video of what would happen if the La Palma underwater landslide were to occur. This video has the tsunami being only 4 meters, 13 feet, in height.

The Dutch have built a simulator in anticipation of a medium-sized tsunami, 5m.

We think of a tsunami as a big wave. Tsunamis are waves, plural. Each wave is enormously wide, miles wide, and contain the energy of nuclear bombs.

You also have your asteroid tsunami phenomenon. Most of the surface of the Earth is covered in water. If a pebble from the sky hit our planet, odds are that it will strike an ocean ... at thousands of miles per hour.

Then, you have your above-sea and below-sea volcanoes that trigger tsunamis.

However in this day and age, humans are now able to prevent / protect themselves from all natural disasters. Humans are now gods, right?!

And the Tower of Babel is standing today, right?!

All is in the perception. Is the sea rising or is the land eroding away? Looking at a beach, someone will say the water line was a hundred feet further out only 50 years ago. So did the ocean rise of the land erode?
