Role Of Universities Re Disasters

Good morning all,

Per ... the basic spectrum: preparedness, response, recovery.

Article mentions what they believe are the most important aspects of their role.

Regarding the response, the MOST IMPORTANT ROLE of the university is their parking lots. They are an ideal staging area for the Responders. Stay out of the building because they might be damaged.

It is best to visit Puerto Rico DURING a hurricane to learn about disaster preparedness, response and recovery. Otherwise, stay at home.

I am not from academic. What does "disconnected in a connected world" mean ? With our loss of George Orwell in 1950, we must either do much more work or just abandon hope.

And where would all the students going to park their vehicle? Back in my days in college, its already difficult enough to find parking spot, and those fellow students whose driving supercar get even far more trouble finding parking spot due to their low ground clearance. Suffice to say our campus is so crowded that bumping to another vehicle is something to be expected particularly during the end of semester.

Meaning the public unable to access the necessary information they need to make the necessary preparation or to understand further the nature of potential disaster.

Not something to be expected from any western academia.

Invented and practiced in all civilizations but nearly phased-out in the US because of labor economics and labor politics, is the labor category: servant.

The students, less the US and some other Atlantic Alliance nations, can have a servant drive them to the university campus and then pick them up at end of session.

I think it is the university faculty members disconnected. The knowledgeable of the public learn and act on what they learn. The others are being phased out of society. It's occurring currently in Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas - and Virginia.
