It depends.

Some like models with built-in body armor. Some like attachments deemed critical, eg automatic strobe light when immersed in water, transponder.

Some need a vest that fits for work efforts. Others do not need this feature.

 

That is what I was referring. The foam based require no periodic inspection unlike their SOLAS compliance counterpart. And for terrestrial usage where bumping into rock or debris is to be expected, the whitewater buoyancy aid is far more suitable.

For equipment on US vessels and rigs, sometimes SOLAS and sometimes USCG. Sometimes both.

SOLAS better than USCG.
