I was a police officer for 22.5 years and disabled with my 4th broken back.
Cops are people. They are human.
I was human and I got busted up too many times.
    I would not run away.
I was Lt. in charge of day shift when we got a domestic with possible weapons involved.
I didn't get the call, one patrol officer did.
I radioed that I would back up that officer.
As luck would have it I got there before the patrolman.
I went into the apartment and found a woman holding an infant and scared silly.
Her "man" and an AXE. A BIG AXE.
I ushered the woman and child out telling to to go outside.
I tried to calm the ax man, didn't want to kill the guy.
After several minutes NO BACK UP!
I heard the patrol officer over the radio annouce he was on location but where in the #^$$
    was he!
I managed to peek out a window and there was my back up reading a magazine!!!
    Now I'm really pissed.
I arrested the man with the ax, cuffed him without further incident.
Called for another officer to transport the guy.
Then I grabbed the magazine out of the chicken chits hands and had him by the neck when
my sgt. pulled me off of him.
    It ain't all glory!
I was almost happy when I took a medical disability and got out of that line of work.
Being a cop in a crime ridden city sucks.
I don't carry a gun anymore, nor carry my badge around.
Bet there might be a gun handy though. :>)

    Probably both.
I'm out of the badge game long ago and don't miss it.
Frankly I didn't like most cops I was around.
Why is it they put on the uniform and forget to be human?
A cop can arrest almost anyone for something but why?
Little understood is the premise that arresting someone should be a last
resort unless obvious violence or felony occurs.
Finding probable cause to cite a driver involved in a traffic mishap is
    necessary.(in most cases)

A coward?? hmm. I try as much as possible to avoid a corward because I am not one. People tend to be surprised when they see me calm and collected in the face of challenges or lurking dangers. I am that way because in every circumstance, staying calm and observing the situation gives one the opportunity to know how to get away likewise to know from what direction the threat is. Panicking doesn't help in any way.
