Well that is very unfortunate. Sounds like you would have a better chance of seeing God than getting a license. Probably easier to get new politicians as well.

As I have said on many occasions, I have never owned a firearm and I never will, because the Government is my Friend, the Police will Protect me, and besides, Guns kill people. I also lie a lot.

Having lived for a long time in Arizona and now in Idaho, there are relatively few natives who aren't familiar with firearms. But should some n00b ask me what would be the best rifle and didn't have a particular use in mind, I'd tell them to think about what and why they wanted one and come back and ask again. If they said they didn't know, but "just wanted to have one", I'd tell them to ask someone else.

    Exactly!
You have to define the end purpose before you decide which tool is best.
I've never been happy when I tried to settle for something cheap in the beginning.

I like guns and shooting sports. I encouraged this in my daughter. She started with a Daisy Pal when she was about 4 and over the years moved up as her size and abilities grew. I was raised in a very gun friendly culture. Hunting is so common here that the opening day of deer season is almost like a national holiday. I'm not scared of guns.

I don't really understand the neurotic fear that some seem to have of them. A gun is a tool and like any powerful tool if you handle it carelessly you can get hurt or hurt someone else. That said I know more people that have been hurt by a chain saw or circular saw than have ever been shot. More people are killed in the US by stupidly texting while driving than are killed in accidental shootings.

When you start a kid with a gun early on they are familiar with them and unlikely to make a bad mistake. Some do but if you got rid of anything that hurt kids we would all be walking. Cars are deadly and we let kids drive them long before their judgment is near good enough to be safe.

I don't remember doing any really stupid things with a gun ever but the things that I did driving and riding motorcycles came back to haunt me when it came time to turn my daughter loose with a car. Watching her drive out of the driveway that first time was one of the terrifying things I ever experienced.

Thankfully females have more sense when they are 16 than most testosterone powered little boys have until they are about their mid to late 20s... or maybe into the 30s!! People need to fear things that are actually high risk. Your children are more likely to be hurt in a car or drugs or many many other things than being shot.

I already have the firearm licence and coterminous shotgun certificate, they're not the problem. It isn't that we're unable to own firearms in the UK, only that we must have a legitimate reason to do so.
I'm also eligible for a firearm dealer certificate if I wanted one but they're a huge administrative burden.

In America owning a firearm or weapon ...arms...is a fundamental right of the Citizen....and so outlined with other fundamental rights under the Amendments to the Constitution of the United States.

It is not a privilege granted or denied by the Sovereign. For we in America...the citizens are the Sovereign.

This is a total reversal of what you folks have in the UK. You must demonstrate that you are worthy of firearm ownership or for that matter...any arms...now soon if not already ...knives.

The Starting point here in America is that our own government is to be Limited because they cannot be trusted with management of our rights and liberties....only the citizen/voter can...be so trusted.

The sad truth is that even in America most Americans no longer know this basic starting point in Jurisdictions at law. And this manufactured confusion and ignorance is by design..and intent.

This manufactured intent is to make us more and more like Englishmen and Continentals....like the world...wherein people have privileges granted by the Sovereign....not rights granted by God.

In making us more and more like England and the Continent...this is also why this steady attack on Christianity ..so that we as Americans do not know the Source of our Rights and Liberties....and thus the limits on government.

This is easy to determine by thinking as England and the Continent are much further along in turning on Christianity and God........and moving rapidly towards socialist control of everything...to where ..

"The State is god..." as GFW Hegel was to explain...and promote.

And Socialist control is just a step away from Communist control and also with this the fruit of dead inert economies....economic systems.

Hence England and Brexit....as some Englishmen are catching on to where their country is going ..into Economic and thus social bondage and servitude...to Brexit.

This should be clear to thinking Americans...not to emoting Americans..but thinking Americans by the constant deadness and inertness of the economy under the Obama Administration.

For they trusted the American people ....neither with arms.........nor their children ...nor their monies....nor their opinions...but moved quickly to promote "The State is god"....ie....censorship...ie.. ..herding.

And Americans began to catch on.....and Trump and company are the result of this socialist mismanagement and distrust of the American people...in everything.....including their rights under the Constitution. Not privileges granted by a Sovereign.

If the readers understand for what I am outlining here....they can understand the Hatred for Trump and Company for Trump and Company are a direct threat to this attempt to make America more like England and the Continent..under a Sovereign government granting privileges and not a "Limited Government" of people with God Given Rights under the Constitution of the United States.

If Americans can not be trusted with a gun....they will never be trusted with their vote.

And a disarmed England/UK....and Brexit clearly illustrates where this is going for The UK. Ishmaelites at work.

We are not Englishmen nor Continentals.....

We are Americans and bloody well proud of it!!!!

The Jewish Anti-Defamation League, ADL, used to chant, "A twenty-two for every Jew!"

The meaning of course was to say that all Jewish people should own a .22 caliber firearm.

I would say a rifle, however there is a profound lesson to be learned from the Warsaw Ghetto uprising against the NAZIs. That is that they began their armament with only six handguns. Using concealable handguns -- certainly not as loud as a high power rifle -- a soldier or two could be popped in the head and their battle rifles taken. The battle rifles allowed them to take on greater and greater numbers. The Germans finally had to bring in artillery to wipe out these civilians. That artillery was pulled away from combat units fighting to keep Germany afloat. Every little bit counts during a war. And to this day we have eternal respect for these people. They occupy a place of eternal honor.

First survival weapon? How about a pump shotgun or a repeating rifle in a handgun caliber. When it hits the fan, I'm not going to be carrying a concealed weapon. I will be with a crew and we will be overtly armed.

I love my handy rifles. The rifles are short and their ammo is short -- both easy to carry. In a .357, you can plink with cheap mass-quantity .38 special ammo. Plinking is fun, plus your nervous system is wiring itself to incorporate your firearm into its body image. Full power .357, even with heavy bullets, has little recoil. Little recoil spells no flinch for the novice.

Survival use note: A .357 or a .44 mag (now there's the Henry .41 mag) rifle will drop a deer or a looter, Johnny-on-the-spot.

    Olde Geezer..

I own one of these Beretta Jaguar model 75 .22 LR target pistols. It is a very good shooter....and seems want to handle a lot of different types of ammunition.

I bought this from a woman wanting to sell as it belonged to here deceased husband and she had little use for it.

However...from another shooter and historian I know ..I was informed that this is a pistol in other .22LR models which was a favorite of the Israeli Mossad....and even their armed guards on El Al Israeli Airlines.

Also I learned from this other fellow that it is known for it's reliability.

Now this ...Olde Geezer...I found to be a very interesting article on the use of this type of pistol by the Israelis.

Apparently their doctrine has not changed since the Warsaw Ghetto days and they found the .22 LR to be very very good for their intended purposes.

During WW2 the US made and dropped these little monsters all over the occupied parts of Europe, China and to be spread around in the UK if the Germans invaded with the expressed use to be to kill a German soldier and take his weapon. It was single shot, smooth bored with a few rounds in the handgrip. The effective range was about 7 or 8 yards/meters. They cost less than 3 bucks a piece.

You know Texdanm...I've only seen one of those liberator pistols and it was in a War Memorial Museum across to the other city...Newport News, Virginia. It literally is a stamped out pistol and obviously for very short range. But it has the right cartridge for the job intended.

As I understood it most of these FP-45 liberators were scrapped and never widely distributed. Probably why they're so rare today.
