This is the experience of a journalist who went to cover the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales province, north of Manila. It was already reported that the once dormant volcano has been spewing steam so news reporters were scrambling for a vantage position.

Without warning, the volcano spewed lava which is boiling magma that is mixed with lahar which primarily material is thin white sand. The reporter was on a jeep traversing the foot of the volcano when they saw the flowing lahar. They turned around with haste and headed for a safe place away from the volcano. But the lahat was so fast that it almost hit the jeep... that was able to pull on the side of the path of the flowing lahar, barely missing by a few meters.

If not for the quick thinking of their driver, they may have been buried by the steaming lava.

It is intimidating to know that larva can busy someone so fast. I thought it falls from the sky after after being spewed by the mountain in a diffuse manner. What is the size of the area covered by the spectacle? I guess that materials spewed by the mountain can be used as a fertilizer.

Its nice to hear they survived. I always found the idea of visiting a place with an active volcano scary. Anytime it could erupt and kill you. The burning hot lava is probably beautiful, but oh so dangerous.
