The spirit of the Great Generation and the Dunkirk evacuation is almost dead. Once upon a time, most folk leaned toward self-sacrifice when some huge hellish event came crashing in. Now, only a minority of people have such a spirit. The media often have fluff pieces about heroes and say something like, "How rare such bravery!" Indeed, bravery is rare these days, whereas in decades back, bravery was the norm. In the past, people rolled up their sleeves and got to work or war. Now they ask, "What's the government going to do about it?!" The media usually preaches that individuals are weak. "You are not qualified to protect yourself -- only the police are trained, leave your defense to them." "The Fed will have to send in troops to take care of these storm victims." The sheeple have been mentally castrated. Only Heartlanders are still citizens; a few folk in cities still have some pride. The collectivists figure that they have won.

Anyone else remember the acronym "M.A.D. = Mutually Assured Destruction", I'm pretty sure it's still the policy of the day. Just sayin.

Yes, I remember MAD, Robert Strange MacNamera, Henry Kiss and the rest.

I'm in that bloc believing that MAD is still US policy. This is why I place much emphasis on the significance of Dr Ho Jian Kui studying at Rice Univ, Texas and his development of CRISPR gene-editing.

I have to agree with that. My youngest daughter is a biomedical engineer and we have discussed CRISPR in depth. It concerns her (ethical issues) and scares me (ethical issues). Everything that is possible with this technology and how almost completely un-traceable it is when applied, should concern everyone. Our current issues with COVID-19 highlights for me how hard it has become to know if something is "natural" or has been "manipulated". I hear people talk about the percentages of people that could survive a nuclear attack and make an invasion possible in the USA. All I can think is "WHY?". Why would any power do that and destroy the very resources that they need when they could release a biological anywhere on the planet now and decimate up to 80% of a given population. No radiation. No destruction and probably no counter attack because no one but the attackers would know what happened. I consider that scary.
