Looking around the United States have concluded the biggest downfall of the average citizen is their adobe has no water they could fall back on if electricity ceased to exist and water stopped flowing through those pipes into their homes . Pick a survival location that has a healthy supply of water when the public system fails . Drinking stagnant water from swimming pools and barrels may keep someone alive but considering chemicals in pools and parasites looking for a home in stagnant water would not be my first choice . If things get bad enough streams may contain rotting corpses . So top of my list would be a private owned survival retreat with decent water .

stagnant non moving water would not be my choice for water supplies.
most people do not know where to find non mains water if the supply shuts down.
any water source that does not come from the mains in my book is suspicious and should be filtered and boiled before use.

This past week, I asked a fellow who has well water if he had an electric generator to provide power to the water pump if he went without electricity. He said that he did. I replied, "You're a smart man."

Our small town has a river running through it. Most folk could walk to it or a tributary creek. Creeks are everywhere due to mountain runoff. We get a lot of rain, thus this being an agricultural region.

This is why I'm a big believer in water filters. Consider all natural water being full of natural bacteria and natural parasites. Mother Nature is pro-life ... no matter what that life is. Butterflies and scorpions, She loves them equally.

Shelf life of bleach is around 6mo to a year:

Swimming pool bleach tablets last much longer, 3 years:

    https://blog.intheswim.com/chlorine-shelf-life-how-long-can-i-store-pool-chemicals/

"Trichlor tablets have the longest chlorine shelf life. We have lab tested our individually wrapped tablets for potency over time. At 36 months, InTheSwim tablets still have 98% of their original available chlorine, when stored in constant 50-70° F temps with a tightly closed bucket lid. In the right conditions, trichlor tablets can remain viable for over 5 years."

    31. Have firearms with which you are very, very familiar. Become a better than decent shot. Keep ammo. You do not own that which you cannot protect. During hard times, good and very trustworthy neighbors will turn into demons. Unfortunately, the same is true of some of your very own family members. During hard times, demonic people get worse and they adapt. Humans are THE most dangerous species for they are smart enough to overcome almost all obstacles. Sometimes when faced with dire straits, some folk become saints -- don't count on that happening to those who are near you.

    32. On this planet, there is nowhere for you to hide.
