    Good afternoon Lonewolf,

It's less about being a global pandemic than about not being prepared.

Not needed were warehouses full of masks, lab coats, the plastic coats. Was was - still is - needed are the machine tools to make eg masks. It is not a sophisticated piece of PPE like SCBA tanks.

The US also didn't know - some may argue otherwise which is fair enough - but had ALREADY addressed major events dealing with bio-warfare. Funding and many, many, many "think tanks" were set up.

    The UK just wasn't prepared.

    The US was not either.

I posted here a few days ago about Virginia's state-owned and operated liquor stores having some masks - since transferred to the medical folks - funded and procured a few years ago during the bio-terrorism preparedness.

My guess is that this British problem at the national level has the many poor quality hospitals like that place in White Chapel, East London. Nice area Mayfair and Belgravia hospitals are probably in decent PPE shape. It's the same here in the upstart colonies. Not too much is new under the sun.

The scary news is that it's not just the hospital stuff that's still neglected - in both the UK and US.

I don't know what the root problem at both US or UK, but around here the root problem is regulations (red tape). The industrial capacity is there but without deregulation they can't re align production line let alone manufacturing anything en masse. Furthermore with every industrial & logistical hub being put under quarantine its became more complicated for those industries to get the materials & manpower needed to manufacture anything at all.

there were enough stocks and suppliers for normal use but the pandemic has just overwhelmed supplies, most medical stuff seem to come from China!!
there is an order due to come from Turkey to the UK but there is a delay for some reason.

    Good morning Varuna,

    Your fact pattern is correct.

Yet, regulations and the related red tape are only the manifestation ... the expression of the problem ...

The root problem is socialist forms of government involving political blocks that are self-sustaining because of guaranteed incomes, safe housing, quality health care, etc. This means the national programs, like Veterans' health care, private-sector pensions are out of control. Funds are first allocated to the governments' political blocks before funding, whatever funds are remaining, the national programs.

To add to your mentioned fact pattern: When available, how does a private citizen purchase a decent face respirator when unemployed and the savings are depleted ?

ALL in the US and UK are NOT experiencing dire problems.

I thought our UK national health service were responsible for buying their own protection equipment, why is everyone blaming the government?
