"Net migration into Britain could top 1 million this year, doubling previous record"

    https://rmx.news/uk/net-migration-i...1-million-this-year-doubling-previous-record/

"The figures to be published later this month will show a huge increase over Britain’s previous annual peak of 504,000
    May 12, 2023

"Home Office officials fear soon-to-be released immigration statistics will show net migration into the U.K. topping 1 million, despite numerous pledges by Britain’s governing Conservative party over the past decade to significantly reduce the numbers.

"Experts at the Center for Policy Studies (CPS) have forecast the net figure to be between 700,000 and 997,000, while a second analysis estimates a more conservative figure of between 650,000 and 675,000.

“ 'If emigration has reverted to pre-pandemic and pre-Brexit patterns, we could see net migration hit the one million mark,' Karl Williams, a CPS senior researcher told The Telegraph. 'This would be at the very top end of our estimates but by no means an implausible figure,' he added.

"Either way, the figure will show an exponential rise in immigration into a country that has voted for Conservative governments since 2010 that initially ran on a ticket of reducing net migration to the 'tens of thousands.' This pledge was eventually dropped by the incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, despite Brits generally opposing the rate of immigration experienced over the past decade."

Stabbings in the UK are going up, thankfully its mostly drug related and I've no issue with them killing themselves. Most common knife is a cheapo kitchen knife nicked from home.

Knives are not blanket banned in the UK, only certain types of knife.

    A very basic overview here

    As I've said before:

If I'm Putin, why nuke US cities -- what a waste of armament! Just set-off neutron warheads at high altitude = preserve buildings for takeover, kill people by radiation, no fallout for takeover, & power grid meltdown. Lots of people left, but they'd have no grid, no clean water, no food supplies = mass die-off. Nukes should be saved for military bases, air-fields, and ports.

Putin's forces and weaponry is so outdated as has been shown in Ukraine that I'm not convinced the Russians could nuke anyone. most of them wont even leave the silos, then there is the chain of command which like every chain is subject to collapse at several points.
they threaten all and sundry, a new threat is issued nearly every day, but thats just Russian BS and bullying, every time they issue a new threat I just wonder if its all hot air, the more threats they issue the less I believe them.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/what-makes-nuclear-weapon-tactical-2022-10-12/

"Many of the world's nuclear powers have weapons that are considered low-yield or meant to be used on the battlefield.

"According to a March report by the U.S, Congressional Research Service (CRS), the United States has approximately 230 non-strategic nuclear weapons, including about 100 B61 bombs deployed with aircraft in Europe.

"In 2018 the Trump administration announced plans for a new low-yield warhead for submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and a new non-strategic nuclear-tipped cruise missile.

"Russia has 1,000 to 2,000 warheads for non-strategic nuclear weapons in its arsenal, the CRS report says."

Even if Vlad goes nuclear, I do not see this triggering WWIII. The West won't retaliate with field-grade nukes. The Ukraine war will stay tactical and not go strategic.

As Lonewolf sez, China is the aggressor most likely to trigger a third world war.

Russia's goal is to repatriate the Russian cultural regions of eastern Ukraine. During the Soetoro debacle, Vlad took Crimea. Why not? Amerika had no Commander in Chief.

China, on the other hand, wishes to control the entirety of the Asian regions. It is claiming the South China Sea as its own. It is building islands -- literally so. It is intimidating Vietnam and the Philippines. China is stating that when other countries use international waters they are doing so in violation of their territory. They've used fighter planes to buzz oil tankers belonging to several nations including Canada. Taiwan is a separate country and the communists are prepping to invade that island nation. Such acts of aggression lead to world wars.

Putin's goal was always to resurrect the Soviet Union, encompassing those countries that were part of the Soviet Bloc, so Ukraine and many of the Baltic states, what he wants is a buffer zone of several countries between Russia and Nato, this was the reason given for the invasion, the ever Eastward expansion of Nato despite promises not to do so, I am not excusing the Russian invasion but I see why it happened.

"London Transport Advertises Paid Position for People of ‘Non-White Heritage’"

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...id-position-for-people-of-non-white-heritage/

"A paid position advertised for the Transport for London government department has sparked outrage over its requirement that candidates come from 'non-white heritage'.

"Under the requirements section, the government ad stated: 'You must be of Black, Asian and minority ethnic background, defined as having some African, Afro-Caribbean, Asian or other non-white heritage.'

"The latest anti-white scandal comes just days after it was revealed that a £51,000 per year teachers position in the city of Glasgow, Scotland came under criticism for similar discrimination, with the job only being open to those who 'identify as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic.'

"Anti-white discrimination in hiring has become increasingly prevalent in Britain, with both the BBC and ITV broadcasters previously posting job adverts for minority-exclusive positions."

Thus, we preppers prep. It's not like we are given the choice to not prep. Things ARE going to go wrong. The deep political divisions, the environment of pure idiocy, the fragilities within society and society's technologies have gotten to the point where something's gonna go sideways ... and in a bad way.

The dependence on lifelines to the UK remind one that the exact same situation applies to all major cities. Roads, pipelines, electric cables, and train-tracks combined can be seen as a city's umbilical cord. Cut the cord and the city dies. During any civil war, these assets are at the very top of the list for sabotage.

Attacks on the power grids of cities is already happening here in the States. Note the following examples of grid attacks and planned attacks in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland:

"North Carolina electric grid shooter 'knew exactly what they were doing,' sheriff says"

    https://news.yahoo.com/attack-north-carolina-electric-grid-220620845.html

"(Reuters) -The orchestrator of gunfire attacks on power stations in North Carolina that left nearly an entire county without electricity for a second straight day knew "exactly" how to disable the stations, sheriff Ronnie Fields said on Monday.

"Fields' comments came as North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper warned of a "new level of threat" posed by the incident and called for hardening of critical infrastructure including the power grid.

“ 'Protecting critical infrastructure like our power system must be a top priority,' said Cooper, a Democrat, in a press briefing on Monday.

" 'These kinds of things cannot happen.'

"Asked if the attack was being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism, Cooper said only that 'investigators are leaving no stone unturned.'

"Schools in Moore County will be closed for a second day on Tuesday and 38,000 households were still without power amid freezing nighttime temperatures after the Saturday shootings."

    ------------------------
    Video report:

"Power station in South Carolina shot at in wake of North Carolina attacks"

"Meanwhile, police are investigating at least five attacks on power stations in Oregon and Washington as well as the North Carolina attacks that left thousands in darkness."

    -------------
FBI arrests man, woman with 'extremist' views in alleged power grid attack plot targeting 5 substations

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/fbi-arre...ower-grid-attack-plot-targeting-5-substations

"Sarah Beth Clendaniel, of Maryland, and Brandon Clint Russell, of Florida, charged out of Baltimore in alleged energy grid attack plot

"Clendaniel spoke to an FBI informant about her plan just last week, according to authorities. Russell is an alleged neo-Nazi figure who authorities say posted locations of substations.

"Clendaniel allegedly told an FBI confidential source that she planned to target five substations including in Norrisville, Reisterstown and Perry Hall, according to an affidavit by Special Agent Patrick W. Straub, of the Joint Terrorism Task Force ("JTTF") in the FBI Baltimore Division.

" 'If they hit a number of them all in the same day, they 'would completely destroy this whole city,' and that a "good four or five shots through the center of them … should make that happen,' Clendaniel allegedly said. She further added, 'It would probably permanently completely lay this city to waste if we could do that successfully.' "

    ===============================

The above were attacks used rifle fire. What if there was a SERIOUS attack on these grids. Example: mobile heavy construction equipment such as a bulldozer could have its steering locked-down and be directed into a power substation.

When I was a boy, in my home town there were union disputes at the local fabric mills (we're talking 60 years ago). These mills were huge and had to have electrical substations just outside. The strikers would throw dynamite into the giant transformers. Soon, fencing was put up around these places and over the top. I remember seeing mattresses put on top of the metal netting so as to absorb some of the blast of thrown dynamite sticks.

Our society is dependent on electricity and the people are addicted to the technologies run by it. For these people, shutting off the power is like pulling the needle out of an addict's arm.

"White People Told They Are Not Welcome at Performance of BLM-Inspired Play"

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...-welcome-at-performance-of-blm-inspired-play/

"White theatregoers in London were urged to stay away from a play about African American history so that black audience members could enjoy the performance “free from the white gaze”.

"The Theatre Royal Stratford East, in east London, has caused uproar after it told white people to stay away from a 'Black Out' performance of the Tambo & Bones play on July 5.

"Although the theatre claimed that 'no one is excluded', it went on to make it abundantly clear that white people would not be welcome at the performance that tells the story of a pair of African Americans on a journey from mistrels to rappers, who ultimately join the Marxist Black Lives Matter movement.

“ 'While this performance has been arranged for Black audience members specifically, no one is excluded from attending,' a description for the ‘Black Out’ evening on the theatre’s website stated.

“ 'A Black Out night is the purposeful creation of an environment in which an all-black-identifying audience can experience and discuss an event in the performing arts, film, and cultural spaces – free from the white gaze,' the theatre explained."

Discrimiation is discrimination positive or not. Although I have always wondered at the term positive in these instances. Positive racism is just racism under another name.

"Ministry of Truth: BBC Unveils Disinformation Unit to Monitor ‘Conspiracy Theories’ and Alt Media"

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...or-conspiracy-theories-and-alternative-media/

    Begin quote"

Britain’s left-liberal public broadcaster, the BBC, announced on Monday the formation of a new 'disinformation' unit in its newsroom to counter alleged conspiracy theories and fake news.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which is funded through a mandatory tax on those watching live television on penalty of fine or imprisonment, announced that its news division will feature a new team designed to dispel disinformation dubbed 'BBC Verify'

The CEO of BBC News, Deborah Turness, said that BBC Verify will be made up of about 60 journalists “who will form a highly specialised operation with a range of forensic investigative skills and open source intelligence” to be deployed to provide fact-checking, video verification, counter disinformation, and “crucially – explaining complex stories in the pursuit of truth.”

BBC’s Disinformation Correspondent Marianna Spring, said that “mistruths can cause really serious harm to society”. Spring, who is set to host a BBC podcast dubbed ‘Marianna in Conspiracyland’, said that she has set up some “undercover accounts” on social media to track “polarisation online” such as what is being recommended to users.

The millennial journalist went on to say that she is currently investigating “the UK’s conspiracy theory movement”, claiming that it has “evolved and intensified” since the Chinese coronavirus crisis. Spring singled out “alternative media” as being a driver of so-called conspiracy theories.

“I’m looking at the way alternative media is funded, I’m looking at its impact on local communities, I’m looking at its connections with far-right figures and also its foreign links,” she said.

“Could January 6th or the German coup attempt we saw there ever happen in the UK?” Spring questioned.

The BBC, which has been undergoing restructuring in order to cut costs amid threats from the government to end the controversial licence fee from the public, is perhaps attempting to prove its value to politicians in Westminster, who have repeatedly expressed a desire to monitor the spread of ‘disinformation’ on the internet.

During the pandemic, for example, the government reportedly tasked the Defence Cultural Specialist Unit (DCSU) of the army’s 77th Brigade to counter and track alleged conspiracy theories about the coronavirus vaccines.

The British public broadcaster’s own coverage during the pandemic was called into question by Twitter owner Elon Musk during an interview with BBC journalist James Clayton last month.

“Does the BBC hold itself at all responsible for misinformation regarding masking and the side effects of vaccinations and not reporting on that at all?” Musk queried, to which Clayton replied that the interview was not about the BBC.

Elon Musk also slammed the BBC for all their covid misinformation when the BBC reporter tried to attack Twitter’s covid policy changes. Man, I love this. Enjoy: pic.twitter.com/sy4bvEfyWN

    — Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) April 12, 2023

Even prior to the Wuhan virus, the broadcaster consistently faced accusations of having a political agenda — despite its charter requiring neutrality. In 2019, for instance, a poll from Norstat found that nearly two-thirds of the British public thought that the BBC was biased.

A separate poll that same year found that only 44 per cent of Britons had faith in journalists at the BBC to be truthful in their reporting, compared to 48 per cent who said they did not trust its news division of being accurate.

Very recently there has been a story circulating that suggested the BBC "fact checkers" were mis-checking real facts in favour of false ones - they British public have lost faith in the BBC and, as it is funded by paying a "licence fee" (yes that good old phrase for taking money off a person for no reason other than they can) which is expensive it no longer remains a broadcaster of "value" - in terms of ethics or production values. All very sad really.

People in power cheat and lie.

Having power over other humans is addictive. It also imparts the delusion that being in charge makes one correct in all judgements. Bill Gates holds no government office, however he is using the power & leverage of his business monopoly to give himself the power over the "little people" that holding a position within government would impart. And as we all know, little Billy is delusional.

I agree but, in the case of the BBC, we pay as "licence fee" so, effectively it is a paid service and yet they act as th mouthpiece for a corrupt government.

Being a Yank across "the drink", there's many a thing on which I cannot comment concerning the UK. My father, having been stationed in England during the second world, war gave me a very positive view of that country. It is a blow to the chest what I witness today in that country.

Truth is that I can only draw parallels with those social pathologies I witness in my own country.

Increasingly, I recognize not my own country -- I was born in a country that currently I do not recognize.

I was born in the first Eisenhower administration. What exactly has become of this place?! This place isn't that. This is dirty. This is perverted. This is spiritual sickness made manifest. Were the Creator to crush this place and me along with it, I would understand. The darkness has enveloped Amerika. This country is doomed. I experience an inconsolable nausea when witnessing this.

Once, I was proud to be an American. I can no longer say that this is true. Here, tens / hundreds of millions are going to perish due to their loss of allegiance to their Creator. Such is the manifestation of the messages of Holy Books of multiple religions. The Creator may be utterly unknowable, however the Will of that transcendent Essence has been made known via the messages of the Prophets. My country stands judged and doomed.

    "It is finished."

its always been called "across the pond", and as for your father being here in WW2 I assume that was 1944 in the run up to D Day, that is nearly 80 years ago and many things have changed both in Britain and in the USA and not for the better, people have become more stupid, common sense dosent exist, and most dont even know where their food comes from or how it is grown or even what it looks like in its natural state.

I don't think the changes since WW2 are all bad by any means, overall we are far better fed now, have access to some of the freshest food in the world, generally fitter, generally better educated, homes are a lot better, warm and dry, more people own cars, way way more people travel abroad et al.

LW, US troops started arriving in the UK in 1942, we could not have won without them and American industry.

Given how Europe has gone, I wish that America had simply stayed out of the European theater during WWII. After Hitler had been defeated, Stalin could have simply taken Western Europe and the U.K. after developing the bomb. Had it not not been the Rosenbergs, et. al., someone would have leaked the bomb secrets to the USSR. Europe has gone collectivist / Big Brother anyway. The hatred for America is rife.

The USA should have annihilated Japan and any resistance in China. Without having to deal with Europe, we could have backed Chiang Kai‐shek and finished Mao. Both were corrupt, but maybe capitalism could have caught on instead of soul-raping communism.

Now we have this biden debacle and are supporting the criminal government in Kiev. Money down the drain. Ongoing kill-off of young people. Spiritually vulgar beyond all imaginings.

America could have also supported Central and South America instead of trying to rule over those countries. We could get all of our oil and coal from this side of the planet. Hispanic nations could have prospered. The rest of the world could have just gone to hell, so what. It has anyway.

The real America (the productive America) should separate from Amerika and stop feeding it and providing it fuel. The Left hates the military -- great. We'll take it. Time to get back to sanity. New England and the Left coast can go woke, get dead, whatever ... who cares.

I'm not so sure, the Battle of Britain was over before the US joined the war, and the biggest mistake the Nazis made was attacking Russia, it was all downhill after that.
as for people being fitter, dont you know there is an obesity crisis in this country, the NHS is on its knees and a lot of people live on ready meals and take aways not fresh food.

Statistically younger people don't smoke a lot, don't drink masses of alcohol, are more diet aware and exercise more. Lot of people on a bad diet for sure but you need to look at the overall picture and not just click bait headlines. The last 20 years there has been a food revolution in the UK, people are way more adventurous with food these days, the days of fry ups and stews 6 days a week and a fat laden Sunday roast are gone as more and more people try new food from around the world. Low income families have their hands tied but things are not as bad in the UK as the scare mongers would have you believe.

    From the above article:

"Some in the Belfast crowd reportedly muttered something about the Yanks being 'over-paid, over-sexed and over-here.' ”

That's the phrase I was trying to remember this past week, "over-paid, over-sexed, and over-here." As a kid, I heard my dad, uncle, and bunches of men talk about that phrase. Also when a kid, I knew friends and girlfriends whose mothers were "war-brides". Hearing a British, French, or German accent was in no way odd. In high school, I dated this one girl who was an absolute beauty. Her mom was French and they would speak to each other in French. Her WWII veteran dad was one of the dads who gave me a good talking to (threatened me with violence) before allowing me to take her out on dates.

Again, my dad was treated super-well by the locals while stationed in England before the invasion. He was stationed in a rural area (I know not where). He was in Ordinance and the U.S. had a massive mobile armor dump in one English valley; tanks, trucks, half-tracks, tank carriers, ... on and on were stored there. All this valuable equipment was right out in the open. Thing was, that valley area was perpetually covered in fog. It was a natural hiding place.

Dad almost got his head torn off by a crane hook. The operator was swinging the ball and hook around without watching what he was doing. The hook hit the side of a half-track in which my dad was standing, ricocheted up, and knocked off my dad's helmet. The half-track and helmet saved him. Dad had a good-sized scar on his forehead -- without the helmet, he'd not have had an intact head.

My supplies include flack jackets and helmets. I have stories from industry about how safety boots and helmets have kept people intact. When working at height, I've always tied myself off with good ropes. Safety equipment is profoundly important in survival situations. You can't afford to get hurt. Working with ER staff, the stories I've heard would gag a butcher. It's like being in the morgue except that the dismembered people are screaming.

This reminds me, I need a fire-escape mask / headgear. Been meaning to do that. Smoke inhalation = killer. Lungs are easily damaged; damaged lung tissue = development of bacterial pneumonia. Don mask, thick coat, then get out!

Go out in any UK town on a Friday or Saturday night and one could fooled into thinking that young people drink more than ever.

I go on what I see around me, trolleys laden up with ready meals, chocolate and crisps.
very few people cook from fresh these days, thats why there is an obesity crisis and diabetes is rife.
vaping seems to be the fashion these days, this is worse than cigarettes as many are heavily laden with chemicals.
as for alcohol, you only have to look in the papers and on news channels to see photos of young people rolling around drunk out of their minds in our city centres most weekends and this new "Zombie" drug from America has just arrived in the UK.
some will only see what TPTB want them to see and will never see how it really is. we are being lied to by govts and politicians of all flavours and the reality is very different.

The newest zombie drug name is "tranq". It's a freaking animal tranquilizer used by veterinarians on horses / cattle, i.e. BIG critters. It increases the effect of other drugs such as heroin and fentanyl (as if fentanyl needed any help, jeez gimme a break!). It is a a venous-constrictor, thus it can shut-down blood flow to appendages = de-oxygenation = tissue death = amputation. WOW, what fun! I'm gonna report on this in the drug thread.

Much will depend on where you live, inner cities have always been shite holes. Yes ready meals are popular and these days healthier than in the past, but its the low income families and many pensioners who are forced into a poor and often high fat/salt diet. I've traveled all over the world and the fresh food and meat in the UK is as good as anywhere.

Vaping? considered much better than cooking your lungs with tobacco but its new, not a lot of peer reviewed research on it yet so time will tell its long term effects. Some NHS trusts are giving vape starter packs to patients who smoke on their discharge.

xylazine is similar to ketamine and ketamine has been in the UK for many years. The 'zombie' drug I believe is a mix of xylazine and heroin which causes skin ulcers, I think the street name is 'tranc'.

Thing is LW the media is nothing more than a bucket of click bait, they show the worst of the worst...makes good viewing figures. Nobody wants to see the sensible people in society out enjoying a few drinks with mates or eating out having a good time, they prefer to show the zonked out teen covered in vomit or pissed up idiots fighting sort of thing...they are the minority but are great click bait to hook in viewers. I worry more about the BS in the media and the effect its having on peoples views than worry about the gov telling lies, its what they have always done so don't sweat it mate.

Anyway its 25c @80f and I'm in the shade sipping on a couple of San Miguel and catching up online, stay safe and stay healthy.

whatever, I have seen enough in my time to know a city is not where I want to be, it never was but circumstances dictated, current circumstances mean I dont have to live there anymore and I got out when I could-twice the second time was permanent.
anyone who smokes or vapes these days is an idiot and there are plenty of them around.
it was nearly 80F at Bude car boot this afternoon, dont have to go to Spain for it!

    Spot on.

    Same here across the pond.

People in their twenties on into early thirties: Total crap diet; over five vape shops in a tiny towno_O; winter, grocery fresh veggie area, few shoppers; potato chips, snacks, soda isles have the shoppers; obesity rampant; people not talking to each other except via their opium iPhones; poor work ethic (if any at all; stores can't find employees); only 1/3 (maybe 1/2) holding onto normal behavioral patters ("productive") and this in a Heartland little town (surrounded by agriculture). The cities are write-offs. Almost the same for the suburbs. Suburbanites DO have a work ethic; however, they are utterly non-self-sufficient ... and their kids are beyond spoiled.

Within commuting distance is a university town (major liberal university; go through a mountain pass to get there); metro area, 200k -ish population; too expensive to live there; people are zombies; arrogant, dismissive, elitist; FAR left; high minority population; welfare housing projects near the university, several shootings per month, numerous robberies, student rapes not uncommon. During even a minimal SHTF situation, the entire place would go into meltdown mode. As a matter of fact, it has already gone bat-sh## crazy before during a Leftist protest (read "violent") convulsion a few years back. The police were totally unable to protect the community. Citizen militia groups moved in, not to protest, but to quell the violence between Antifa/BLM crews and far Right nutcases. After the violence subsided, the militia boys (90% ex-military) got totally fed up and just left. The communist media called the militia crews "trouble-makers". Truth was that they kept lots of people from getting put in Intensive Care or the morgue.

America has lord-only-knows how many "university towns". They are a strange mix of working class and elitist enclave types. The working class is necessary, else the liberals would be living in their own feces. During any protracted SHTF situation, the students and the liberals will just have to leave. The students will go home. The liberals will have to fend for themselves and that will NOT go well. The locals (read "conservative" / self-sufficient-ish) won't put up with them. There is already no shortage of ill-will between these two classes.

    ========================

What follows are some historical notes. It's another topic, I know. Sorry.

I include this to give people of other parts of America and across the pond some perspective on the uniqueness of regions of America. America is NOT homogeneous! We have some seriously unique cultures. The ONLY times that the USA has actually been united is when we face external enemies. In this day and age, we are not united even in that respect.

I note that England also has profoundly distinct regions. Wales, the SouthWest, London, North, South, each have their own cultures. Think the same of us Yanks. Me, I see Scotland as a country unto itself. My kin were mostly from Protestant Northern Ireland.

    Begin history stuff:

Further South in the eastern part of America, many blacks are rural, working class, have intact families, and are generally one with the white population and visa-versa. Where I'm from, working class folk just got along, race doesn't matter because people are too busy getting things done, going on with life, all that. Churches, now there's segregation there, but it isn't any sort of forced thing; there are poor white churches and rich white churches also. I'm mainly describing the Southern Appalachia region. That area/culture is actually rather wide, encompassing more than just the mountainous areas. My lot settled in the mountains and the valleys/hollers thereof.

People think of "hillbillies" as being white; however you are looking at a mix of skin colors -- Scots-Irish, German, Cherokee, Portuguese, Africans (runaway slaves came to and through our region; the Underground Railroad; Republican/emancipation-movement/pro-Lincoln; profoundly few slavers), Melungeons, ... who knows where the origins (?!). Lotta "white" folk have dark brown / black hair that is straight (zero curls) and the men do not have beard hair on the sides of their face (no cheek hair; just mustache and chin whiskers) -- this is due to Indian blood lines. My chin whiskers are thick, but I have virtually no cheek whiskers, nor side-burns. My skin is European white. The hunting skills of my mom's dad (who taught me to hunt) came from the Cherokee -- his side married in with the Original People. I have ZERO Native American facial/skull/teeth features. Historically, Europeans in this area didn't wipe-out the Indians, they absorbed them genetically until few pure-blooded Original People exist. There was an overwhelming number of white folk who moved in.

    ======

    History note, Melungeons:

    Cherokee, North Carolina
    https://cherokeesmokies.com/
    https://ebci.com/government/tribal-council/

A few hundred Cherokee who lived up in the mountains were NOT sent out west during the merciless hell of the Trail of Tears. They hid-out and were offered & afforded protected by God-fearing white families (nobody was about to sell them out -- anti-Christian that. They knew the forests, after all. They taught us how to make it in this region. Me, I see it as an eternal debt. I have a profound respect for these people. I sure am not alone in feeling this way! Like I've said before, when kids playing cowboys and Indians, most all of us wanted to be the Indians (especially one guy who was raised way back up in the mountains, beyond just "rural").

    https://www.ncpedia.org/cherokee/trailoftears

    William Holland Thomas

    https://www.ncpedia.org/biography/thomas-william-holland

"The significance of Thomas's activities during this period cannot be underestimated. Immediately after removal he spent some of his own money to feed and clothe many Cherokee. He defended his support of the Indians' cause, asserting that 'when entrusted with defending the rights of white or red man I hope I shall always be found faithful to my trust and act worthy of the confidence reposed in me without regard to consequences. The Indians are as much entitled to their rights as I am to mine.' Recognizing Thomas's devotion to the tribe, the dying chief Yonaguska named Thomas the new leader of the North Carolina Cherokee in April 1839. This job encouraged Thomas to continue his efforts to secure for his people a proportionate share of the moneys promised the Cherokee by the New Echota agreement. He finally succeeded in July 1848, when the U.S. government recognized the Eastern Band of the Cherokee and allowed most of their claims to treaty awards. By 1840 Thomas had also purchased in his name—the state of North Carolina did not allow the Cherokee to sign contracts—50,000 acres that would form the major portion of the future Qualla Boundary home of the Eastern Cherokee."

Bude carpark won't be hitting 38c/40+c in the next few weeks though ;)

I love cities...for a weekend but have not really lived in one since I was a kid. My house in the UK is outside of Birmingham in the suburb of Solihull which is quiet but close enough for an easy commute to the big city which suited me fine. Same in Spain, just outside a town with all its amenities but far enough away from people when I return home which works well for me; I don't want city life

car BOOT not car park!! you can keep cities, I lived in one for 40 years, you couldn't pay me enough to go back there.
you do make me laugh Max, you go on about inner cities being shite holes then say you love cities. living 17 miles from a city of more than 1 million would give me security issues, its certainly no where a serious prepper would ever consider living, where I lived the city was one quarter that size and I still wanted to leave, I've always been a country boy at heart.

you say "I", you mean alone? oh dear, how terribly boring! being alone in a big city could make someone a target for the feral gangs that reside there. being alone in the countryside is paradise itself, but in a big city could be fatal.

Sometimes on my own, sometimes with my son, sometimes with a lady friend but more often than not its to meet friends and chill out.

Your safe enough in a city if you use some common sense and don't go into dodgy areas. I don't suppose you meet up with friends much these days being a 'lone wolf' ;)

not much chance where I live as my long term friends ( people I have known for over 40 years and one for 60 years) are all back in the city.
not so much about dodgy areas as dodgy times of day, I used to frequent some well known dodgy areas but it was because I had friends and lovers there.
cities arent places to chill out, they are place to watch your back, I know I lived in one for 40 years. I chill out in the countryside, thats the real place for people like me.

Depends on what chills you out, I love good food and so dinner at a Michelin star restaurant chills me out, good film/movie, rugby match/cricket match/game of squash with mates/theatre...really you need a city for all of those. That said I'm at my happiest in the hills/mountains like here in Spain; I'm more relaxed and happier here than I have been for years in the UK.

I'm in the UK end of the month for a week, some things I need to sort out and truth be told I'm not looking forward to it but business is business.

    Stay safe and healthy

I am with you on that. Whilst we are a very rural family, my wife and I enjoy time ‘in town’ for events like yourself. Towns and cities are not Death Traps as LoneWolf seems to describe them here in Britain. Indeed, some of the remote places nearby ( we are in a large village) are more prone to nasty burglaries and worse! One reason I am glad we are legally armed if the future takes us down the pan!

As far as I'm concerned we need to build two low fences on our southern border and then offer American citizens a bounty to guard the border and DROP ANYONE in that no mans zone. They are INVADERS. They can't speak our language most of the time and there just are not enough grunt labor jobs to employ them...so they become gang members and thieves. Fortunately most of them that fall into that description get out of Texas as fast as they can. Texas is a heavily Hispanic state and the AMERICAN Texican Hispanics have little more use for them than any other Texan.

I have had a LOT of Texican friends over the years and they are great and hard working people. The thing I like about them is that they are very family involved people. Unlike other minorities here they don't just pop out kids in mass and ride the welfare wagon. In my experience if you need some workers they are more than happy to work for you and they will work hard. I usually pay them in cash and feed really well. GOOD PEOPLE!
