    Good afternoon all,

    Per ...

Interesting re efforts to train Br pilots for F35B for carrier work. The B model is the STOL - short takeoff and landing model.

It is surely great for commandos but F35B has less of a range than the regular C model. This means getting closer to shore for land targets than otherwise. Am sure this is a matter of discussion. It was here.

Interesting re USMC and USN " ... to become a cohesive fighting unit; ...". This sounds like a good idea.

The F35 isn't mean to be bomb or missile truck. Its primary role (as it seem) is to be more of a Forward Controller. The drones or others legacy platform will do the actual payload delivery. F-35 flying as Forward Controller (without any payload other than 2 Sidewinder) can fly far enough to get the job done

    Good evening Varuna,

This aircraft caused big issues here.

    There are a few models.

When the aircraft has 2 missiles in the internal stores, it is "stealthy". With external missiles, it is a target.

Not that sure of a forward controller role as part of the package. Admittelly, I'm not up on this.

The F35 series IMO was a R&D package for Silicon Valley.

The F35 came as a great idea but poorly executed due to the urge to create "jobs" and spending public funds. It has many issues, but can you tell me which fighter craft that doesn't have issues in their early days of adoption? The only difference with F35 with other fighter planes is the amount of public scrutiny over the whole project (which is justifiable). Also keep in mind that present days strike ordinance have longer range & accuracy than their Cold War era counterpart.

Here is the cartoon describing the concept. Albeit this cartoon is from ScaryBus, thus using FCAS as Forward Controller along with the entire ScaryBus products line-up. The concept however is the same with F35. Also keep in mind, that the concept is no longer the future but already present, thus no longer a concept.

    Good evening Varuna,

In reply to question; I'd say the USN acquisition of the AV8B Harrier Jump Jet. It was an import.

Present day strike ordnance confronts present day, post Cold War, enemy ordnance.

Do you know that the F35 production was spread out over 46 states ?

I believe the future involves drones.
