I don't understand as why they close down Car dealers, Shopping centres, arcades and markets. Doesn't make any sense to close down those 2

the only shops allowed to stay open in a lockdown are food shops and pharmacies.
anything else is classed as non essential.
its fairly simple to understand, its not rocket science or brain surgery.

This is a very simple way to reduce contact between households in Wales to the bare minimum for the period of 17 days which should mean that those who are incubating covid-19 or are asymptomatic don't pass it on. For this reason all non essential contact has been cut to a minimum. It's a bold move that currently has broad support across Wales.

    Good morning Lonewolf and Ystranc,

To me, it's not that simple.

I understand that food stores and pharmacies are essential.

Perhaps it different here in the upstart colonies, but what happens when someone's dwelling requires some emergency repairs ? If our big box hardware stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot ... some small repair stuff at Walmart ... are closed, guess what happens when the broken water heater finally starts to leak onto some exposed electrical wires ? Transfer the danger to the public sector ?

I'd guess that the UK is geographically large enough to approximate the US. If, for example, the sister or son/daughter living in different area and needs a relatively large amount of cash for some medicines not provided by NHS, and asks if eg $1,000 equivalent sent for emergency, no place to buy a money order or visit a bank ? Every citizen doesn't have an IT operations center in their home.

Again, I understand what the authorities are doing.

I do not consider it simple at all.

for a short term event and a 17 day lockdown is a short term, most things can wait until it is lifted.
the broken water heater can be shut down and not used until such time as it can be repaired.
as for sending money the Post Offices are still open and the postal services are classified as an essential service.
I saw a video just now of a guy going nuts in Tesco's because he couldnt buy kids clothes due to the lockdown rules, so he waits until lockdown before buying kids clothes? typical sheeple father.

    Good afternoon Lonewolf,

I guess I'm just too focused to this area with our hazardous weather conditions like hurricanes.

My focus involves property damage and personal injury. Plus, elderly, frail are allowed to live alone.

If something damages parts of a house, there are many examples where the resident cannot do anything.

There is almost no such thing as "non-essential" in human civilization even all the way back to antiquity era. Everything is dependent to another. How do you think all those foods could get to you from wherever they were produce? Those produces need to be transported from point A to B. that alone require automotive, which in turn need fuel & spare parts. And those Fuels & spare parts also need supporting industries to keep producing, and so on. Furthermore how do you think we can communicate? Do you really think all those IT infrastructures run smoothly by their own without human supervision and doing maintenance, etc?!

Even back in Medieval days industries were interdependent upon one another albeit in vastly smaller scale than we have today.

Exactly. That still doesn't count if you know how to fix stuff but can't buy the spare parts because the place is close down. Which is at the time of this writing that is exactly the problem I'm suffering from.

Hardware stores are open if they want to open, as are the farm feed stores, filling stations (gas stations) fast food shops etc....We are simply being asked to only go out to them in emergencies. Most people are conforming and sticking to the guidelines...as I said this has been supported by most people here in Wales. It is true there is legislation in place to fine people who persistently put others at risk or really flout the rules but most have understood that it is a short term inconvenience for our benefit long term.

    Good afternoon Ystranc,

Thank you for getting all this clarified.

It's about the same here in Virginia.

    The "necessary" stores are open.

The citizenry has restrictions such as minimize trips to stores, sear face masks, social distance 2 meters, no socializing in stores, etc.

A big difference is that we here have many not in support of the restrictions and, in practical terms, won't / can't be enforced.

This is insanity. Locking down is like telling all of your people to run and hide and to pull the police off the streets when there are riots. I hate to tell you this but you can't run and hide from a disease. You will either get it and survive, die in hiding or maybe eventually live long enough to receive a vaccine and get to go out into a collapsed and destitute world. Once an economy comes to a dead standstill it can't be just started back up like flipping a light switch. In the long run more people will die from the worldwide collapse of a total shut down than this somewhat anemic flu bug would have killed. COVID is nothing like the Spanish Influenza that wiped out millions in the early parts of the 1900s. it has a mortality rate only about twice as bad as any flu bug. Shutting down is like banning ALL automobile use because some people die in auto accidents. the nations that are weak are going to die and be absorbed by those that have the strength to accept their losses and go on.

Russia and China may shut down cities but they are not killing their entire economy. the future ALWAYS goes into the hands of those with the strength to deal with the present and go on while those that hide die. If the US had followed the idea of Nevil Chamberland and hidden from Hitler, people in Europe and England would be speaking German now. Don't worry though, this tie the US is following right behind you and mostly choosing to hide. If we elect that idiot Biden and his boss Harris we will shut down and be DONE as a major world power. When we shut down millions will die all over the world from starvation when our food shipments stop.

Our military is a small shadow of what it once was and our ability to defend will be strictly limited to protecting the US. In the long run, it will be as Kruschef once said about America. They will never need to invade and force us into communism. In the end, we will vote it into existence and meet them as brothers under to sweeping arm of worldwide communism. England is almost there and the US is running hard to catch up.

The ONE good thing about it is that when they get what they want the Communists will KILL all of those rioters and protestors just as Lenin and Joseph Stalin did their followers as soon as they assumed power. Once you are in power you don't have any need or patience with trouble makers.

The liberals, every time they are in power import as many new welfare people as possible and once they have enough to control the elections they will do away with the democratic insanity and return to rule by the strong over the weak. The democracy that we have now bears almost no actual resemblance to what was founded by the Founding Fathers and the liberals have slowly eroded the things that made America great and encouraged the things that will eventually destroy it.

The originations of our democracy was a nation ruled by the strong but with laws and rules that protected the weak or those without power from abuse by both the government and the powerful individuals. The liberal philosophy is rule by the weak and the worthless while enslaving the strong to work and support them. We now actively encourage people to not work, live on welfare, and have as many kids as possible that they refuse to care for and support. People on welfare should be allowed to have two children. Having more than that should be treated as a crime and mandatory sterilization a part of the solution. Failure to care for your children should be a crime with the children taken away and them and you sterilized.

I am a country boy. If you have a hen that kills her chicks you have her for Sunday dinner. You don't protect her chicks, let her live and have more and let her traits be passed into your flock. we as a nation are breeding our dissolution and will soon reap the harvest that such always offers. The rise and fall of great nations is as sure and certain as the swing of a pendulum. The only difference with Western civilization is the height of its rise and the speed of its fall. We went to the moon and now have savages taking over the hearts of our big cities, supported and encouraged by the elected leaders.

I suspect that if we are not careful we may elect our Hitler and she is going to crush the evil people that work and don't allow her people to rape, rob and murder as they wish. Biden is a fool and we have survived a lot of fools but SHE scares the crap out of me. Where Hilary wanted to get elected so she could get rich this person wants POWER and will use the stupid and criminal to gain that power. Biden won't last a year if elected.

    Good morning TexDanm,

I have a completely different view of the US lockdown. My approach sees COVID-19 as "merely" a highly contageous seasonal flu. The morbidity and mortality numbers involving COVID-19 are, at least IMO, not true.

What the US lockdown is doing is serving as the vehicle to restructure the US economy. I fully support this even though it provides me personally with some negative effects.

Public school programs with their bloated campuses and payrolls are phasing out. Local real estate taxes cannot support this jobs program. Excess airline capacity with the relate hotel overcapacity is leaving the scene. The capital will get directed to useful economic development.

I see the Trump administration mirroring what FDR did in stretching out the Great Depression up to US entry into WWII so as to reform the US economy.

Private car ownership and housing arrangements are definitely changing.

Of the 3 big ticket items of theUS economy: debt service, retirement programs (eg CalPERS, Social Security) and health care delivery, the quarantine shutdown has something ... and I don't work the healthcare portifolio ... to do with fielding a new health care delivery national program. An insurance company cannot run its business with pre-existing conditions policy holders. Something must be done. Hope to learn what it is.

I'll close this early AM rambling by mentioning something that's somewhat symbolic. The Pentagon City area of Arlington County, across from the Pentagon, used to house many of the area's Defense contractors. It's now an Amazon area.

The way people act " all chapped with their drawers in a wad " over this Chinese induced virus , can you imagine how their reaction is going to be in the year 2021 when the next show will make the virus look petty . Most people have no concept of what the upcoming S.H.T.F. situation will be bringing . Those that aren't prepared already for self- sufficient living have likely already missed their and their depends chance for living like humans . Someone having to watch their spouse , kids and grandkids grubbling around in the dirt for roots and worms to eat because they didn't take prepping serious enough will no doubt find it disheartening . --- The very people I am prepared to put out of their misery when they try to steal my preparations .

in any kind of a pandemic I have always said I will go into self imposed quarantine until its all over, lock down is very similar to those.
all diseases need a human host, it goes from human to human spreading as it goes, if we remove our selves from the human herd and go into isolation we are removing ourselves from the common herd and wont get infected if we follow all the health protocols.

Funny money covering covid economic catastrophe.

    https://consciousnessofsheep.co.uk/2020/11/03/when-the-dam-breaks/

"In effect, governments would borrow currency created out of thin air by the same banks it is seeking to bail out. In the meantime, thousands of businesses and millions of households would be defaulting on their debts because of a deep depression largely resulting from the government’s mishandling of the pandemic."

"... , few of us in 2008 would have imagined massive quantitative easing underwriting an otherwise unviable fracking industry to deliver a decade of additional energy into the system – failing to do much for growth, but delaying the day of reckoning. Nevertheless, the day is fast approaching when the bubble of unrepayable debt finally bursts."

Ten second GIF to sum-up that which is coming:

Biden plans to rape the dignity of Americans. Do you have a medical condition? Are you on your own property? It doesn't matter! Wear your Chinacovid mask or the uniforms will come for you. Here comes the re-awakening of the Stasi.

Actually, I'm looking forward to seeing Americans "come together" in RAGE and FURY. Civil War II? Git'er done! Let it all collapse. There must come the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

"And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 25:30

Socialist regimentation & enslavement vs. the human soul:

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...ick-newborns-uk-socialised-healthcare-system/

"Parents of sick newborn babies are being barred from seeing their children in hospitals run by Britain’s socialised healthcare system, the National Health Service (NHS), due to the draconian coronavirus restrictions in place in the UK.

"A survey conducted by Bliss, a premature infant charity, found that 14 per cent of parents with sick babies have been prevented from staying with their ailing child as a result of social distancing measures put in place by hospitals.

"Some hospitals have limited visiting time to just two hours a day, and others have limited visits to one parent per day. The study found that the draconian limits have placed an increased strain on the mental health of new parents across the country."

Socialism keeping hopes down -- anxiety among the sheeple is their bread and butter:

    https://www.breitbart.com/health/20...onths-before-there-is-widespread-vaccination/

"Former Vice President Joe Biden welcomed new about advances toward a coronavirus vaccine Monday but said that it would be 'many more months' before it was widely available, and warned Americans to continue wearing masks.

"Pfizer announced that its vaccine was more than 90% effective, sending stock market futures soaring. It added that the vaccine would be free ..."

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...ricade-non-essential-aisles-english-lockdown/

"The chairman of the UK’s oldest conservative think tank also raised the issue of the cost to life of the lockdown, after several reports have revealed a rise in depression and suicide attempts, and cancelled surgeries and medical appointments.

“'What is the cost to life of all of the medical appointments that have been cancelled? What is the cost to life of all the businesses bankrupted? What is the cost to life of all of the jobs lost? That is what the government and we the public need to consider,' Mr Harris-Quinney said."

Here in America there is growing concern about the elderly not attending their needed physician appointments and thus not being scheduled needed testing should symptoms of pathology present on examination -- the examinations are not happening. Due to the Chinacovid attack on the U.S. physician offices are only seeing specific patients based on their specific needs. Add to this the panic among the elderly to leave their homes -- the MSM hypes the dangers and many old people imagine that to venture out is a death-sentence.

I couldn't rapidly find an article concerning, however my work environment puts me in contact with Physicians. These folk feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. There are all of the government mandates, hospital mandates, insurance company mandates, frightened patients, lack of contact with patients who are frighted but who really need to have the physical results of the medications checked (blood tests, sonograms, get their A1C levels & retinal checks for diabetics ...). What to do?

What it boils down to is the question: Are Chinacovid "protections" saving lives or killing people? This is a particularly sticky wicket when it comes to those needing to be monitored?

It is probably counter productive to politicise the Covid virus. The virus doesn't give a damn about your beliefs or politics.
There is a persistent narrative which aims to portray the Covid-19 virus as no worse than seasonal flu, that it is a hoax or that it is spread by 5G cell phone towers. This BS has no place on a serious survival forum, the risk from covid is real.

    Good evening Ystrance,

In the US the coronavirus has already been made a volatile political matter. It was bound to happen..If someone works for a government organization with civil service status, their economic life continued with adjustments. If someone worked making sales calls or on a cruise ship or airline, incomes were affected to the point of no income.

Covid-19 is worse than seasonal flu because it is highly contageous. It is not deadly unless other factors are present such a infecting someone with a serious pre-condition ailment.

The US health care delivery "systems" are such a mess, politics attached to this pandemic here as a matter of routine.

America's public health reglations/laws are mostly state administered as per state legislation in consonance with the Feds. How does one participate in a lockdown quarantine when obliged to bring kids to "ex" in compliance with a court order. The kids are screaming and situation is volatile.

Do you have degrees in the medical science realm? I do, to include a masters degree. Plus I work daily in that realm. Just 15 minutes ago I logged out of PubMed. I was reading articles in endocrinology, not viruses, not Chinacovid, but I could (well, actually one article did involve cytomegalovirus pathologies).

You and Maxi seem to make a great team when it comes to deciding that which is right and wrong in the greater universe. And when you do, you give paltry evidence. In my post above, I included an article on the negative impact covid shutdowns have on the diagnostic screening for breast cancer.

Truth be told, were I to post on this site articles from the medical sources I routinely use, you would not be unable to understand a twentieth of their content. Show me articles concerning advanced nuclear physics and I would be lost, but then I do not imagine myself capable of commenting on such. Atom smashing -- Old Geezer will never understand the intricacies therein. However, I have in my life done one oil-tanker load of literature research for physicians.

Try not to talk down to other members. I will NEVER question the advice of a combat veteran -- I've only sent would-be burglars packing with a shotgun, which is far short of being in a war zone.

And oh by the by, I graduated undergrad summa cum laude, carrying two majors. I did better in grad school. Have you ever made straight A's in calculus, pulse and waveshaping, ...? I did.

Things like you and maxi annoy people in the know.

Well forgive me for having the temerity to state what in my opinion is an obvious fact.
What exactly is your masters degree? You don't quite say it's a medical degree but your post implies that it is. ... More BS?

I have seen a doctor about twice this year, once for my yearly medical check up and once for a minor ailment, doctors arent doing face to face appointments as a regular thing due to covid, you can contact them by phone or by computer, otherwise its bang on the surgery door to collect your regular medication-ours is a dispensing surgery because we are out in the countryside.
