Buggery, not heard that one in some time but lots names to pick from, butt F****d, Rogered (thats another old one) et al but man on man rape has more impact IMO.

The conscripts are getting two weeks training before being used as canon fodder...I thought those days were over.

The media are saying it could be well over two thousand civvies arrested for demonstrating so I feel the reality of whats going on is now filtering down to the people.

all the war in Ukraine has proved is that Putin made one colossal mistake in invading in the first place, his troops arent up to it, their equipment isnt up to it, now the mobilisation has sent people scrambling for the exits and with them will go the biggest "Brain drain" in modern history, whatever happens next Putin and probably Russia itself is finished, no longer will it be the super power it thinks it is, it will be the pariah state that nobody trusts anymore not even its allies like China will trust it.

"Nuclear weapons convoy sparks fears Putin could be preparing test to send ‘signal to the West’"

    https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/10/03/nuclear-weapons-convoy-sparks-fears-putin-could-preparing-test/

"A train operated by the secretive nuclear division and linked to the 12th main directorate of the Russian ministry of defence was spotted in central Russia over the weekend heading towards the front line in Ukraine.

"The pro-Russian Telegram channel Rybar shared the footage showing the large freight convoy hauling upgraded armoured personnel carriers and other equipment.

"Konrad Muzyka, a defence analyst specialising in Ukraine, said the 12th directorate operated a dozen central storage facilities for nuclear weapons.

"'This is actually a kit belonging to the 12th Main Directorate of the Russian MoD,' The Poland-based analyst said. 'The directorate is responsible for nuclear munitions, their storage, maintenance, transport, and issuance to units.'

"Mr Muzyka said it could be a 'signalling to the West that Moscow is escalating,' in reference to Vladimir Putin's nuclear war warning last week.

"However, the expert stressed that the video in no way shows 'preparations for a nuclear release'.

"It comes as sources told The Times that Nato had sent an intelligence report to its members and allies alerting them to the fact that Russia is expected to test its nuclear-capable torpedo drone Poseidon, possibly in the Black Sea, which it controls.

"The Poseidon torpedo, dubbed the 'weapon of the apocalypse', can be launched from the submarine. According to La Repubblica newspaper, it is about to be tested in the area of the Kara Sea, north of the Russian mainland.

"These latest manoeuvres could signal an increasingly desperate Mr Putin’s willingness to escalate the war following a series of embarrassing defeats on the battlefield, including the loss of a key city in Donetsk and the most recent setbacks in the Kherson region.

"According to Pentagon officials, the US is considering how to respond to a range of potential scenarios, including fears that Russia could use tactical nuclear weapons."

Maybe, but pushed into a corner Putin may become very dangerous indeed. That does not even need nuclear weapons, a couple of missiles into one of Ukraine's nuclear power stations and Chernobyl will look like a minor incident. Desperate men do desperate things.

russian propaganda. the war for russia is all but over, they have lost, they are being pushed back closer and closer to the border by the Ukranian advance, they retreated 30 miles yesterday.
Putin and his regime are no better than gangsters.
Russia is quickly collapsing into a "failed state" category, if that happens it will split into many factions, each taking over a section of territory, similar to Isis and about as much use.

"Massive explosion on Crimea’s Kerch bridge, Russian state media reports"

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/08/europe/crimea-bridge-explosion-intl-hnk/index.html

"A fuel tank exploded early Saturday on Europe’s longest bridge, which links Russia to the annexed territory of Crimea, according to Russian state media RIA and social media footage.

"Images of the Kerch bridge posted on social media appear to show a portion of the roadway of the vehicle and rail bridge had fallen into the waters below it. Flames are seen burning from rail cars above.

"The tanker was located on the 19-kilometer (11 mile) long bridge – strategically important because it links Russia’s Krasnodar region with the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula.

"The bridge spans the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov."

Also, the time it will take to make repairs to the bridge will do great harm to troop supply lines. Fighting troops require massive amounts of supplies. Trying to achieve resupply via airdrop is a drop in the bucket compared to ground convoys.

Morale is already low among the Russian troops, now resupply will be slowed. Russian transport ships porting in Crimea will have to step up their game.

supply and logistics is the weak point in any conflict, in any war if the supply train cant keep up with the advancing troops they may have to stop the advance until the supply line catches up.

"Russian Strike Hits German Consulate In Ukraine's Capital: 'Unacceptable Escalation'"

    https://www.zerohedge.com/geopoliti...late-ukraines-capital-unacceptable-escalation

"A German Foreign Ministry spokesman has confirmed that the building which houses a German consulate in Kyiv was hit by Russian missiles in Monday's large-scale wave of attacks on multiple cities.

"The statement noted, however, that the consulate has not been processing visas or been in operation as a result of the war, since February:

"'The tower which houses the visa section was "apparently damaged," Christian Wagner told a news conference in Berlin. However, the visa section was no longer operational, so there were no employees present during the attack, he added.'

"Air raid alert sirens were active in the capital for a reported nearly six hours on Monday - the longest on memory during the war. The German consulate building getting damaged highlights the ongoing possibility other other foreign embassies getting struck in future military action."

The supplies and logistics issue is an interesting one. The Russians appear to have begun he campaign using similar tactics that were used during WW2 (large AFV advances etc). I did wonder of they expected to drive in and be greeted by a Ukranian people that were please to see them, rather than started an entrenched war (oddly the term entrenched that the media are now using, and I have used here, means something completely different from what is actually happening ).

I was talking with a friend who is a veteran of military exercises in Europe during Cold War days and he expressed the view that the way Russia is fighting in Ukraine is very much what was expected if the the Cold War ended up with an invasion of Europe. He indicated no surprise that Russia's supply lines could not keep up and used the phrase "yes, well, that's what the Russians always do" at one point. It is always interesting to listen to those who were there earlier.

the supply lines and the morale of the conscripted troops are both failing, tales of Russians walking into Ukraine with no food, no boots and no weapons, probably why the Russian military has switched to missiles and drones.

The change to missiles and drones may be a tactical change as the war did not go the way Russia had envisioned. I certainly did not think the Ukrainians would resist in the way they they have - I thought the show of force would result in something like the way the Russians dealt with the Prague uprising in 1956. I do think we have to be a little careful of the stories about Russian soldiers without boots etc, they may well be a product of western propaganda. One thing the Russians are not is stupid and I cannot see them perpetuating the war without good equipment and intent. If it has reached the no boots, no ammo and no food stage, surely Russia would be looking to consolidate there gains and dig in for the Winter? Unless, of course, Putin is so pig-headed he will not listen to his generals. It is hard to imagine a totalitarian leading not listening to seasoned and experienced generals when things go wrong,...oh hang on a minute... Adolf Hitler anyone :D:D

On the surface of it yes but, using the Adolf Hitler analogy, Putin has been accused by western media of "hiding" in his bunker out of fear of nuclear attack. Hitler did the sae. towards the end of WW2 and allied media tended towards citing failure and cowardice as the reason (it was certainly failure, the Russians were in Berlin at that point). I suspect the if Putin goes too far he is likely to be ousted by his generals - where that situation leads is another story.

Looks like Putin has put Marshal Law into place in the occupied sectors of Ukraine and is putting a security clamp down across Russia with restrictions varying according to region and Belarus are massing troops on their border with Ukraine...an interesting few days are approaching, Putin needs Belarus to get involved to try and take the pressure off his units.

It is certainly a change in approach. I read several news stories on it and am not really sure what is happening. There seems to be a general agreement in the media that the news blackouts are used when something "big" is happening but beyond that the news blackout has been effective enough for no additional information to appear publicly.

Perhaps one can hope the Russia will consolidate their gains, dig in and stop the fighting but I am not sure the Ukrainians would be willing to accept that (and why should they? They have been invaded after all).

The Russian army, taking the hits they've suffered, are now targeting the infrastructure of Kiev with their missile strikes. They are going to attempt to cut off fuel to the cities of Ukraine so that heating will be difficult during the coming winter. It is hard on soldiers in the field knowing that their families back home are starving and freezing to death.

It is, I wonder though if that makes Russia more reckless? We have always been led to believe that east and west were evenly matched. Russia being seen as less capable might open the door for Chinese aggression.

I wouldn't know, but if it is true I would suggest that the reprisals (under protocol 5) would be such that his generals would probably do anything necessary to stop him.

Common sense suggests that Putin needs removing, the war in Ukraine stopping and a demilitarised zone set up between the Russian occupied areas and the remainder of Ukraine (as in North & South Korea). The failure in this statement is, of course, the term "common sense as Putin is quite clearly mad as a box of frogs.

I'm wondering why North Korean troops haven't been sent in. Krazy Kommie Korean leader offered-up troops to help Putin.

    ========================================

Russia is stepping-up its attacks on civilians, hitting cities. Iran supplying Russia drones to hit these cities including Kiev.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...catch-up-with-the-must-read-news-and-analysis

Quotes from the above article are in the color yellow-green:

“The trees outside the apartments have a peculiar foliage today: ripped blouses, trousers, skirts and T-shirts catapulted 20 metres on to their branches from washing lines on the balconies of shattered homes. A total of 15 people died in this strike.

“The region of Zaporizhzhia, and its capital, is one of the four provinces, along with Donetsk and Luhansk to the east and Kherson to its south-west, that were said by Putin to have been annexed into the Russian Federation on 1 October.”

Russia attacked Kyiv with nearly 30 “kamikaze” drones on Monday morning, killing four, including a pregnant woman and her partner, days after Vladimir Putin said there would be no more “massive strikes” on the country.

Meanwhile, Britain joined France in viewing the Iranian supply of armed drones to Russia as a breach of Iran’s obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal. The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson, Naser Kanani, in his weekly press conference again denied Iran was supplying drones to Russia, challenging claims by the US, Ukraine and many arms specialists that Iranian-manufactured Shahed-136 drones were in clear use.

A third of Ukraine’s power stations destroyed in 10 days

Ukraine introduced an emergency schedule of power cuts to help stabilise the country’s energy supply, which has been badly damaged by more than 300 Russian drone and missile attacks over the past 10 days – and as the weather turns cooler.

The national security council lead spokesperson, John Kirby, said on Thursday that it was the US’s understanding that Iranian advisers were in Crimea to provide training and maintenance – but not to actually pilot the drones – after Russian forces experienced difficulties in operating the unmanned flying bombs.

“The information we have is that the Iranians have put trainers and tech support in Crimea, but it’s the Russians who are doing the piloting,” Kirby said. “Tehran is now directly engaged on the ground and through the provision of weapons … that are killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure. These are systems that the Russian armed forces are not familiar [with] using and these are organically manufactured Iranian UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles]. The Russians just don’t have anything in their inventory.”

Iran has also agreed to provide a batch of medium-range missiles to Russia, designed to supplement the severely run-down stock of Russian missiles as part of a bid to systematically destroy Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure ahead of a brutal winter, Patrick Wintour reported.

Russia’s new commander admits the situation is tough

The new commander of Moscow’s army in Ukraine announced on Tuesday that civilians were being “resettled” from the Russian-occupied southern city of Kherson, describing the military situation as “tense”.

The comments appeared to mark a rare acknowledgment of the difficulties facing Russian forces. But it was not immediately clear whether Surovikin, the ruthless general now in charge of the war, was hinting at a looming Russian withdrawal from Kherson or a fresh round of airstrikes.

Too many "Wars" are little more than financial piracy. Most of the crap wars in the Middle East fall into that sort of box. Natural resouces should belong to the NATION and not to a handful of already wealthy families. I am not a bleeding heart about the "poor" but even they deserve a small cut. Generally the "Rich" are the ones that make the vast investment that brings the mines and oil fields into production. Without them it will be foreign "investors" and that is seldom a good thing. They will rape the environment get rich and when the well or minds slow in production they will bail.

I never really understood why we were fighting in Vietnam. The PEOPLE there, other than the rich American allies didn't want American Democracy. They didn't last 24 hours when we pulled out. And in the end Vietnam finally had peace. South Korea will only exist as long as Americans are willing to fight for them. If we pulled out they would fold just like the Vietnameese.
