Ways to Store Food

The proper storage of food is a vital necessity in anybody's survival. Finding the food is only half of it. Once you found this food if you do not store it properly, it can attract animals, people, and it also may spoil on you. This would be the worst possible scenario to happen to your food supply. So storing your food supply properly no matter where you are or what situation you are in is very important. If you are building shelter, a great recommendation for storing food to start with is by digging a hole in the ground and storing your food in that hole. You can cover that hole using branches and leaves, boards, or other items large enough to fit over the top. The coolness of the ground will help to preserve your food for longer periods of time.

If you have a storage container or room specifically for storing food, it is important that you make sure all food is sealed tightly and in containers that will not easily be penetrated by rodents or insects. They can contaminate your food making you extremely sick. Also, be sure that you label all food with appropriate names and dates so that you know how long something has been sitting on the shelf. One of the most dangerous things you can do when you're hungry is to eat bad food. Food poisoning on an empty stomach can be deadly. Food may also be stored in man-made reservoirs on the side of cool stream beds, inside of rock insulated caves, or man-made structures. You may also build a storage shelter specifically for your food. When storing food, it is important to remember to try to keep it in a cool, dry place.
