Weird thing to ask, but have you guys seen these so called "mysterious stairs" found in forests?

I have been to several survival forums, and I think one of the most mysterious things I have read is about the common occurrence around the world, where lost travelers in the forest would find stairs leading to nowhere, just lying on the grass, as if someone just placed it there and left. Anyone of you experienced this? It is an incredibly fascinating thing when I read about it, and some even say that people would feel terrible danger when they are close to it, as if their instincts are telling them to go the other way. What do you guys think?

I've only seen and read about it. No personal experience.

I was bush bashing once and miles from anywhere just came up on a hills hoist washing line concreted in the ground!
No house cabin or anything for miles around just a rotary clothesline!

Strange that we've never seen a photo of said mysterious stairs. I've read some of the stories about the stairs though and creepy though they are since the stairs apparently are of paranormal origin, I'd say I believe those ones talking about these stairs merely make these stories up.

However should one see these stairs if they are real, then they should stay away from them because stairs shouldn't be in the forest.

I've never heard of this, why on Earth would there be stairs in a forest? I think it's probably just not true.

It does sound like an urban legend maybe. Or is that the right term, since something has to be urban to begin with. Let's call it wild legend, instead, since the forest is usually located in the wild. Makes sense, right?

Okay--stairs, really? Hmmm....I don't know. And if those people walked up the stairs, what are the chances they'd be able to return to tell about it? Not very likely, I'd say. But anything is possible, they do say that truth is stranger than fiction sometimes. But in this instance, I'd say someone's fiction (imagination) is stranger than the truth.

Sounds like maybe someone needed some attention and it caught on. The internet is like that.

It really sounds like an interesting occurrence.

I always had weird dreams about stairs when I was feeling sick or feverish, it may be some kind of psychological thing that your mind creates?
I mean when you are lost and panicked your mind plays tricks on you?

I have heard about those, but I have never seen them.I think it would be really cool to see them sometime. Of course, I don't want to get lost, but it would be cool to see if they really exist.

I think your theory would probably be the most logical explanation. It's been proven that hallucinations are a real thing.

I am very skeptical of thing that we don't have photographic evidence of. But I agree with you, if someone find them, stay away. It's really sketchy that they would be there. Something more might be at play. Of course, this is all just speculation.

    Yes, totally.

Most of the time these weird urban legends about ghosts and stuff is just the person's dehydrated and panicked mind playing tricks. Just remember mermaids and seamen.

I have never experienced this, but like others, I have read a lot of the stories. I have no idea if they are true, but if you like Ghost Stories these are pretty good.

There are plenty more where this came from.

I have been in forests, rain forests, and swamps all over North America and have never seen these stairways. I have also never seen Big Foot either.

Phooey... ghost stories to scare city slickers... Only stair cases in the woods I've found were on hiking trails made out of logs or stone. Did find a small set and a porch years ago in the middle of the woods but you could see it was all that remained of a long ago burnt down or or rotted down house or camp.

I've never heard of this, I can only guess that stairs might survive longer than the rest of the building because they were better made or made from better wood.
    Pure guesswork....

I like that part where they say forest or park rangers have seen them. I betcha they've got lots of scary stories they aren't even allowed to tell.

    Good morning all,

Routinely reading this "mysterious stairs in the forest" subject reminded me of the Grand Staircase Escalante that was designated a national monument in the late 1990s.

I've been in many types of forest areas and never saw stairs.

Words have meaning - to include more than 1 meaning. Perhaps natural features weathered into "stairs". If the natural weathered feature wasn't experienced, go to that road in Grand Staircase Escalante that's designated for ATVs. Stairs no longer needed.

Look at the national park websites and you can find the section where there are lists of those who died or have gone missing while in the parks.
Some is stupidity, carelessness, not taking heed of warnings and signs, but some are suspicious situations.
My husband saw a staircase in a cemetery once, his mom saw it too. They were driving along, it was foggy, sunlight was on the stairs, and then suddenly the stairs were gone.

Check out David Paulides or Rusty West on You Tube. These guys have made a career out of reporting on these Missing Persons cases. I have no idea what is fact and what is fiction, but I agree; they are very weird.

Check out the link from earlier in this thread. As Schattentarn said, I have never seen them, and I don't know anybody who has ever seen them. That said, who are we to tell anybody what they saw. If you weren't there, and didn't experience the same thing how can you tell them they didn't see it. I put it in the same category as Bigfoot.

I saw, along with my friend, footprints too large for a man in a state park back in the 70s. Not human, but weird, very wide across the toe area. It was in a damp area and off the beaten path, very near a good source of fresh running water.
Not everyone we meet runs around hollering about having seen stairs in the forest. Sometimes we crazy people keep our secrets on the down low.

I've seen photos of lone staircases purported to be miles from civilization they are usually masonry and would be tedious to reduce; much less remove. being stone they hold no salvage value. the ones I have come across were 4-5 feet high and on military bases obviously remnants of old barracks
