This song was posted on another forum by someone who is real cool and started a thread that ran for months.
A song that is steeped in Southern history by a band that was epic.

Love Stevie Ray Vaughn. Love Buddy Guy. What could be better than Stevie Ray covering a Buddy Guy song. First heard this in the movie Dusk til Dawn. I love this cut.

Are there any Led Zeppelin fans here? This may be your new favorite album, Black Smoke Rising.

It is good to know that our kind is not dead yet...These kids--Greta Van Fleet--are the future.

They all grew up listening to their parent's music, our music. You can hear Led Zeppelin's influence on them, especially the singer's voice. Wow. I get goosebumps and shivers listening to that Robert Plant-ish voice.

Many of their songs are on Youtube, but here is just a sampling of their album Black Smoke Rising: the song Highway Tune. Enjoy! They are young, barely out of high school. Imagine how they will be in a few more years...

This is the best version of Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky" I have ever heard.

Live in Venezia - Italy, Canale di San Marco.

My initial leanings toward a music section at MSF.com was negative, however, ...

However, if music is here as a fixture, isn't it appropriate to mention some music themed to MSF.com ?

    Consider:

    - "I've got my life to live, I've got my love to give, I can survive, I can survive..."

    - "A country boy can survive..."

    - As tears go by...." in adult female, tears are a form of stress release; adult male counterpart is cold sweats.

    - "We're in for stormy weather..."

    - "Over the rainbow..."

    - "Way down the Swaney River..."

(Don't know if any songs about muddy Miss River-any riverboat gamblers here ?)

    - Evacuations: "The Sound of Music"

    - Rain drops keep falling on my head..."

    - "The shrimp boats are acomin'..."

    - "I'm a stranger in paradise. ... "

    ......

Never did learn about the Bee Gees song "Staying Alive". Been too busy with preparedness matters so as to stay alive.

Here's Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, and a bunch of others ripping through "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

I love what Prince does to this song (about 3/4 way to the end).

    And speaking of weeping guitars:

Here's Justin Johnson playing the same song on his oil can guitar. Not bad, and as one commenter noted, he is playing the bass line, the chords in the middle (harmony), and also the melody line on top.

yeah, quiet!!! not that you can call the modern stuff "music".
I was brought up in the 50s and 60s when we had REAL music.

OMG!! I am really liking this thread! :D All great choices.

LO: Texas Flood is an SRV classic. Love it.

Griz: You are so right about Greta Van Fleet. Close your eyes, and you think it is Robert Plant. I saw Justin Johnson here a couple of years ago. Great show in a bar up close and personal. Love his stuff.

Of the newbies my favorites are Derek Trucks and Joe Bonamassa.

Lonewolf: I grew up in the 50's and 60's as well. Loved all of that music. Still do. Contrary to what many of us think, time did not stand still. There is still a lot of good stuff out there if you look for it.

See what everyone thinks of this, and I will dig up another of our Icons.

time might not stand still but talent does, all I hear these days is the males shouting and the females sticking their tits and bums out, not what I call music.

Probably better known for what he wrote that turned into mega-hits for Eric Clapton, Lynard Skynard, Carlos Santana, and others. Pick up a copy of Road to Escondido. You will not be disappointed. JJ Cale was a giant among his peers.

I think we will respectfully disagree on this one. I have no use for Rap or Hip Hop, but there is still a lot of good blues. I don't see a many groups, although I don't follow it as closely as when we were kids. I don't much care for a lot of the new contemporary stuff either. They seem to be more interested in special effects than music, but the only time I ever see it is the Super Bowl Half Time show, and I am never impressed.

it all seems to be Rap as far as the males are concerned, that and shout at the top of their voices, as for the females just hanging out their bits seems to be the extent of their "talent", at least over here, I cant speak for the US music scene.
as far as I am concerned personally music died about 1990, at least as far as UK music goes.

    Last Outlaw,

A combination of on and off ophthalmologist (eyes) matters coupled to arthritic condition, especially hands, keeps me from decent web use. Couple this to substantial loss of hearing and ... not into music any more.

Your entry above is perfect for my theme ! ... even better than that county lineman guy in Galveston cleaning his fishing reel or something needing periodic maintenance.

I, too, am seriously hearing impaired but have been wearing hearing aids for nearly all my life.

Because it would suck (a huge bag of lemons) to worry about zombies sneaking up on people like us, I have put up a solar hearing aid thread in this forum for SHTF.

And now, for some down home smiles...

Here are my bros from down the bayou doing a little parody of Tom Petty's Free Fallin. Second video is a humorous explanation of some of the Cajun words used in the parody.

This one gets my vote for favorite Viet Nam song. Also a great example of how the song doesn't start until the bass kicks in.

I used to be able to post the opening scene from "The Stand" with the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" but Blue Oyster Cult or the movie company has had every version of that scene removed as well.
