Love it. Remember that TV commercial that used Elton John's Rocket Man? I don't even remember what they were advertising, but you got about 20 variations on the line " burning out his fuse up here alone " It was hilarious. I will try to find it on You Tube, but there is a guy who does a stand up routine based on song lyrics, and what they sound like to him.

Since I speak American not the Queen's English, I have a hard time understanding what he said most of the time anyway, which was hilarious. I swear! How can comedians stand there and stare at us without even smiling? while we're crying.
Jimi Hendrix sang, "Scuze me while I kiss this guy." There are so many but your video...

It's been a long long time.

Kiss me once...and kiss me twice
    Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Haven't felt like this, my dear
    Since i can't remember when
It's been a long, long time
You'll never know how many dreams
    I've dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once, then kiss me twice
    Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Oh, kiss me once...and kiss me twice
    Then kiss me once again
    It's been a long...such, a long time
I haven't felt like this my dear
    Since i don't remember when
    It's been a long....been a mighty long time
You'll never know how many dreams
    I've dreamed about you
Or how empty they all seem without you
So kiss me once...and kiss me twice
    And kiss me once again
    It's been a long...long time
It's been a mighty, mighty long time

My favorite song on this entire thread!

This version of Purple Rain by Jeff Beck, Beth Hart, and Steve Tyler (on backup vocals) is an awesome tribute to Prince. And fittingly, Rhonda Smith (playing bass) is also there. She performed with Prince for years.

    Lyrics for TMT ;)

I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you
    Laughing in the purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
I only wanted to see you
    Bathing in the purple rain
I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby, I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had to end
    Purple rain, purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
I only wanted to see you
    Underneath the purple rain
    Honey, I know, I know
    I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out
For something new, that means you too
You say you want a leader
But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
    Purple rain, purple rain
If you know what I'm singing about up here
    C'mon, raise your hand
    Purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you
    Only want to see you
    In the purple rain

    "Hunger Strike"

    I don't mind stealing bread
    From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
    When my cup's already overfilled
    Yeah

    But it's on the table
    The fire's cooking
    And they're farming babies
    The slaves are all working

    Blood is on the table
    The mouths are all choking
    But I'm goin' hungry, yeah

    I don't mind stealing bread
    From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled, mmm mmm

    But it's on the table
    The fire is cooking
    And they're farming babies
    The slaves are all working

    And it's on the table
    Their mouths are all choking
But I'm going hungry (going hungry)
    I'm going hungry (going hungry)
    I'm going hungry (going hungry)
    I'm going hungry (going hungry)

    I'm going hungry (going hungry)
    I'm going hungry (going hungry)

Yeah, I don't mind stealing bread
    (Mmm, I don't mind)
No, I don't mind stealing bread

    I'm going hungry (going hungry)
I'm going hungry (going hungry, yeah)

I thought it seemed politically motivated and trashing tptb. My interpretation.

Here's what the writer, Chris Cornell, said about the lyrics: "I was wanting to express the gratitude for my life but also disdain for people where that's not enough, where they want more. There's no way to really have a whole lot more than you need usually without taking from somebody else that can't really afford to give it to you. It's sort of about taking advantage of a person or people who really don't have anything."

They call this "grunge." I don't care what they call it, still sounds like rock n roll to me. I wish you could hear these guys singing, they do a pretty good job on this song, and this one I find lines up with what I still like to listen to. Otherwise, I'm not familiar with any of their other music. Sometimes only one or two songs from these bands will appeal to me. I don't where I was when this music was coming out, but I missed it the first time. I find it incredibly sad that so many of these young guys tragically ended their own lives. The writer (Cornell) being one of them, 2017. Who else, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and the other writer/band member with Cornell, Andrew Wood, who died from a drug overdose.

Radar, do everything you can to protect your hearing. The technology does not compare to the real thing. As for the bands, 50. 60 and a few into the 70's are on my list. Grunge and Rap is a total loss. It is still nice to have the lyrics to blend into the music.

If you can still hear the words, you are a "Spring Chick" compared to this old crow. My Rock & Roll was called the Devil's own noise by my poor parents. My Rock & Roll started even before the Beatles were a garage band.

Stuck in the Middle With You

    From Wikipedia:
Rafferty's lyrics are a dismissive tale of a music industry cocktail party written and performed as a parody of Bob Dylan's paranoia (the vocal impression, subject, and styling were so similar, listeners have wrongly attributed the song to Dylan since its release)

    [Verse 1]
Well, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs

    [Chorus]
Clowns to the left of me
    Jokers to the right

    Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you

    [Verse 2]
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place

    [Chorus]
Clowns to the left of me
    Jokers to the right

    Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you

    [Post-Chorus]
Well, you started out with nothing
    And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends, they all come crawling
Slap you on the back and say
    Please
    Please

    [Verse 3]
Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor?
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore

    [Chorus]
Clowns to the left of me
    Jokers to the right

    Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you

    [Post-Chorus]
And you started out with nothing
    And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends, they all come crawling
Slap you on the back and say
    Please
    Please

    [Verse 4]
Yeah I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs

    [Chorus]
Clowns to the left of me
    Jokers to the right

    Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you

    [Outro]
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
Stuck in the middle with you
    Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you

    Goin Up The Country
    (From Woodstock)

I'm going up the country, baby, don't you wanna go?
I'm going up the country, baby, don't you wanna go?
I'm going to some place where I've never been before

I'm going, I'm going where the water tastes like wine
I'm going where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time

I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussing and fighting, man, you know I sure can't stay

Now, baby, pack your leaving trunk, you know we've got to leave today
Just exactly where we're going I cannot say, but
We might even leave the USA
'Cause there's a brand new game that I wanna play

No use of you running or screaming and crying
'Cause you've got a home as long as I've got mine

    Ode To Billy Joe

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And mama hollered out the back door, "y'all, remember to wipe your feet!"
And then she said, "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today, Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

And papa said to mama, as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well, Billie Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits, please
There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"

And mama said it was shame about Billie Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And brother said he recollected when he, and Tom, and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talking to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece-a apple pie; you know, it don't seem right
I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge
And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

And mama said to me, "Child, what's happened to your appetite?
I've been cookin' all morning, and you haven't touched a single bite
That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way

He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she and Billie Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

    Brand New Key

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone but you've got something I need

Well, I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You've got a brand new key

I think that we should get together
And try them on to see
    I've been looking around awhile
    You've got something for me
Oh I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You've got a brand new key

I ride my bike I rollerskate don't drive no car
Don't go too fast but I go pretty far
    For somebody who don't drive
I've been all around the world
Some people say I've done alright for a girl
    Oh, yeah yeah

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said yes, but you weren't alone
Sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone but you've got something I need

Well I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You've got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them on to see
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la
Oh I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You've got a brand new key

    Son of a Preacher Man

Billy Ray was a preacher's son
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along
When they gathered around and started talkin'
That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
    Lord knows, to my surprise

    [Chorus]
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
    Yes he was
    He was, ooh
    Yes he was

    [Verse 2]
    Bein' good isn't always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin' to me
He'd come'n tell me "Everything is all right"
He'd kiss and tell me "Everything is all right"
Can I get away again tonight?

    [Chorus]
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
    Yes he was
    He was, ooh
    Yes he was

    [Verse 3]
    How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin' kisses from me on the sly
    Takin' time to make time
Tellin' me that he's all mine
    Learnin' from each other's knowin'
Lookin' to see how much we've grown and

    [Chorus]
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
    Yes he was, (was)
    He was, (was)
    Ooh, yes he was

(The only one who could ever reach me)
He was the sweet-talkin' son of a preacher man
(The only boy who could ever teach me)
I kissed the son of a preacher man
(The only one who could ever move me)
The sweet-lovin' son of a preacher man
(The only one who could ever groove me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man)

Radar: Maybe if you started late you never heard of the "27 Club". A shocking number of rock musicians have died at 27 with Kurt Cobain being one of the later ones. You can go back to Robert Johnson, the mythical founder of the Blues; Jimi Hendrix; Janis Joplin; Brian Jones (Rolling Stones); Jim Morrison (Doors); Amy Winehouse. It is tragic to say the least.

Great list of tunes here. Brings back a lot of great memories of when I was young and had my health; when I could still have a bad hair day; when I could still see my feet without bending over. Sound familiar?

I have heard of them but did not know they were grouped together and called that, the "27 Club." Isn't that so sad. I can see my feet just fine without bending over. Bad hair day? I don't believe in them. I'm just a fruit cake, @Morgan101 and I may be younger than you, but only about like your little sister maybe.

    I Don't Like Mondays
    The Boomtown Rats

Lyrics: The silicon chip inside her head Gets switched to overload. And nobody's gonna go to school today, She's going to make them stay at home. And daddy doesn't understand it, He always said she was as good as gold. And he can see no reason 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to be shown? Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. I want to shoot The whole day down. The telex machine is kept so clean As it types to a waiting world. And mother feels so shocked, Father's world is rocked, And their thoughts turn to Their own little girl. Sweet 16 ain't so peachy keen, No, it ain't so neat to admit defeat. They can see no reasons 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to be shown? Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. I want to shoot The whole day down. All the playing's stopped in the playground now She wants to play with her toys a while. And school's out early and soon we'll be learning And the lesson today is how to die. And then the bullhorn crackles, And the captain crackles, With the problems and the how's and why's. And he can see no reasons 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to die? Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. Tell me why? I don't like Mondays. I want to shoot The whole day down.

Bob Geldof was inspired to write this song after reading a story about 16-year old Brenda Spencer from San Diego, California. On January 29, 1979, she took a .22 calibre rifle that her father had bought her as a Christmas present and pointed it out her bedroom window towards Grover Cleveland Elementary School across the street. Within 15 minutes, she had fired about 30 shots, injuring 8 children, a police officer, and killing the school principal as well as a custodian. It was actually a reporter from the San Diego Tribune that had managed to reach her by telephone during a standoff with police. The reporter had asked her why she had done this, her response was simply "I just did it for the fun of it. I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day. I have to go now. I shot a pig, I think, and I want to shoot more. I’m having too much fun."

    Kiss and Say Goodbye

    [Spoken by Winifred Lovett]:
This has got to be the saddest day of my life
I called you here today for a bit of bad news
I won't be able to see you anymore
Because of my obligations and the ties that you have
    We've been meeting here everyday
And since this is our last day together
I wanna hold you just one more time
When you turn and walk away, don't look back
I wanna remember you just like this
    Let's just kiss and say goodbye}

    [Sung by Gerald Alston]:
I had to meet you here today
There's just so many things to say
Please don't stop me 'till I'm through
This is somethin' I hate to do

We've been meeting here so long
I guess what we done, oh was wrong
    Please darlin', don't you cry
Let's just kiss and say goodbye

Many months have passed us by
    I'm gonna miss you, I can't lie
I've got ties and so do you
I just think this is the thing to do

    It's gonna hurt me, I can't lie
Maybe you'll meet, you'll meet another guy
Understand me, oh won't you try, try, try, try, try, try, try?
Let's just kiss an' say goodbye

    I'm gonna miss you, I can't lie
Understand me, oh won't you try?
    It's gonna hurt me, I can't lie
Take my handkerchief an' wipe your eyes
Maybe you'll find, you'll find another guy
Well let's kiss and say goodbye, pretty baby
    Please, don't you cry
Understand me, oh won't you try?
Let's just kiss and say goodbye

    Martha and the Vandellas
    Dancing in the Streets

Martha was a secretary at Motown records and one day they needed someone to be singing when the union representative walked in and Martha volunteered. On that day Martha and the Vandellas was created.

I was never really much of a Michael Jackson fan at all but I have to say that this early song shows why he became such a star.
