    I'm no astronomer but the best way for me to locate direction is to put the rising sun on my right then north is in front of me.

    Find the Big Dipper then the two stars that make the edge of the cup will point to Polaris, the North Star, which is also the end star of the handle of the Little Dipper.

    I have not seen the north star for 50 years and probably never will see it again!

    Then again I can see the southern cross pointing south!:):D
