I feel that with all the increased violence and tension everywhere something big is going to happen soon. Whether this means World War III or another Great Depression with the current economy hanging on by the wire. What do you guys think?

It seems that everyone generally see's their time as worse than previous time periods. I enjoy going back and reading older news articles what I have found is if you go back 50 years, or a 100 years or more and read the news you will find that what is going on now went on then as well. The difference is we hear about it immediately now. One thing to consider that makes the time we live in more perilous is that those that seek to commit violent acts have the ability to export it to all parts of the world more easily along with the mass insanity that is welcoming to those that want to destroy them.

    I respectfully disagree.
There is much more violence world wide today than ever before.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...Mapped-How-the-world-became-more-violent.html

Last year 180,000 people were killed in internal conflicts, a number 3.5 times higher than it was in 2010.

Deaths from terrorism have risen fivefold over the past 15 years, killing more than 32,000 people in 2014.

UNHCR estimates that almost 60 million people are now either refugees or internally displaced because of conflict and violence. This is the highest it has been since the Second World War and equates to almost one per cent of the world’s current population.

CRIME IS GETTING WORSE: VIOLENT CRIME IN AMERICA INCREASED BY 15 PERCENT LAST YEAR
    OCTOBER 25, 2013

If your neighborhood is not as safe as it used to be, then you have something in common with the rest of the country. All over America, crime is on the rise. According to a government survey that was just released, violent crime in the United States increased by 15 percent last year, and property crime was up by 12 percent. If violent crime keeps increasing at this rate, it will approximately double in just six years.

    Rebuttal welcome.

    Lock 'n load.

This is a survival site. No use lulling one's self into a false sense of security.
I'm armed most all of the time.
If not on my person it's close by.
    Paranoia or caution? Your call.
But realize I was a police officer that saw everything that should never
happen to anyone that happened anyway.
In our city we have a very exclusive, expensive, excellent, private university.
    Crime there should never happen.
We had young ladies raped, one young man stabbed through the heart
    and more.
Bad press for the school don'cha'know.
A convenience store clerk shot though the mouth.

Local news was often withheld from the media.
    Bad for the university.

@jeager solid evidence, thanks for sharing. It really it quite unbelievable how much crime has increased in this world. And how many crime cases that the media decides not to share is countless.

There are many reasons (or excuses) for the rising crime rate.
    Moral decline?
    Very likely.
I was afraid of my dad.
Afraid that if I got into dutch with the law I WOULD suffer at home.
When I joined the police force by dad wasn't exactly overjoyed.
He didn't care much for cops evidently.
His only "advice" was: " If your going to do this then do it right!"
    "Be honest and fair."
    I was.
Believe me there were those that were not!
I even called the Cleveland F.B.I. task force on organized crime to enlist
    help to fight corruption.
    Know what they told me?
"It's common. Keep your self honest and shut the hell up!"
    I learned a lesson.
A community tolerates what it wants to tolerate.
We had very high stakes private gambling.
Wan't advertised in the news media but tolerated.
    I left that alone.
We had about 50% ethnics. Ethnics had what are called cheat spots.
Illegal liquor, prostitutes, gambling, and we left that alone.
I should say I left it alone.
I ran the investigative division so I could direct resources other places.
Rape, burglary, armed robbery, drug dealers, etc.
If people began getting shot or stabbed in cheat spots we'd close them
    down for a while.
    Selective law enforcement?
    Sure as heck is.
That is exactly what local law enforcement is about.
I turned the cheat spot thing to my advantage when I was a detective.
I had snitches in those places.
The operators would tell me who committed serious crimes.
They also PROTECTED me from bad asses who would do me harm.
I could go anywhere in the jungle unafraid.
    And did.
    It wasn't all good.
P.t.s.d., back broken 4 times, 3 concussions, 3 gunfights, people tried
    stabbing me, both hands broken,....................ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
I was once pinned down by a sniper for almost 3 hours.
    We burned the house down.
    opppppppps :eek::eek:
    I didn't burn it.
I was too busy hiding and ducking bullets.
I don't like being shot at.
    Really pisses me off.

    Then there was BeaAnn.
A mixed race beauty. I loved her dearly from a distance and she felt the same
    way about me.
But she was the local drug lords woman and she wasn't about to leave a nice
    car, clothes, etc.
I got called out to investigate a murder so went to the morgue to photograph
    the corps.
    Damned if it wasn't BeaAnn!
    I wept.
    Then............................I went hunting.

Nice post but a Poly Anna attitude at best.
We can pray ourselves silly and it will be what it will be.
We MUST be prepared and able to adapt.
    WWIII???
    I dunno.
In that case prayer is all there is left.
A person can pray for a miracle or make a miracle happen.
Just my not very humble opinion.
By the way I do believe in a Power greater than myself and do pray.
Get ready for a story coming.

Pray without working for what you want?
A true and sickening sad story.
In California, in the mountains, a man alone wanted to take a shortcut to
    some destination.
The shortcut was blocked by a simple wooden barrier that said "deep snow
    warning. Deep snow possible."
Well anyone with any sense would not go that way.
    This guy did.
10 miles later he's stuck in deep snow and snow just keeps coming.
He sits. And sits. And sits. And sits. And sits.
Though help on a main road is but 10 miles downhill he prays and prays and sits
    and sit..........................

Realatives report him missing but searchers see this road blocked off with a sign
warning not to go that way so they don't go that way.
Kids on 4 wheelers find the man quite dead and rotted come spring.
Authorities find his make shift diary where he writes that he prays for God to
    send help.
Help was a relatively easy down hill 10 mile walk.
If the snow was too deep to walk in then he waited too long.
Still snow shoes can be fashioned from tree branches, car seats, car floor mats.......................................
    Writing..............praying..............
    Dead.
    What ever.
Survival preparedness is a mental attitude!
    Rebuttal anyone?

Honestly, I think for as long as we discuss this issue... We'll never reach a consensus because it's almost impossible to achieve. :( I think that we live in an extremely pluriculated world and to standardize an opinion on it seems to me a very complicated challenge to achieve (but it is clear that the attempt of the debates is always valid :)).

It all goes to prove that man cannot guide even his own step. With the current technological and intellectual advancement even space tourism, world bodies like the UN not withstanding and the supposed global village, the simple tenets that ensure preservation of the human race cannot be held dear. Your guess is as good as mine. Cheer up, the worst is yet to come.

Politics aside, the president of the US seems very incompetent to me and I am worried something will happen soon with our world leaders. I have read tons of apocalyptic literature pointing to signs like earthquakes and natural occurrences. We are experiencing global warming, and a volcano is due to destroy a chunk of the United States any day now. Isis is still a significant threat, and the economy is getting worse even when it gets better. All we can do is wait for an see, I guess. I have become more privy to how corrupt the government is for the past week, though, and it makes me more nervous.

Fightings wont stop. Not now. The ones to keep people safety are busy making money peddling news, creating panic, and selling weapons. If anything, we would see the emergence of a new world power in the next decade, China that is.
