I will in the forests I am familiar with. We have it pretty easy here. No snow and lots of things to eat year around. If you have the potatoes I'll provide the meat.

Being insulting is not how you get people to talk to you. Possibly some things are not making the translation very well.

This chap's posts are certainly a little weird!o_O But it may just be he is a little eccentric. I see no harm in his posts so far, I simply have no interest in them or like this present one it makes no sense to me.

If I have offended Dema I apologise, but I stand by what I said. Your posts are coming across as a little weird, & your last one makes no sense to me. If the translator is the problem, I respectfully request that you try another translator.

A Troll on a forum is someone who purposely posts rubbish/misinformation. lonewolf said that he thought we "may have a Russian troll". I don't think given the circumstances he can be blamed for making that observation. The fact that you are Russian has nothing to do with it, lonewolf seriously believed that you may be a troll. The fact is we obviously do not understand the way that you think, & this is causing some misunderstanding. We are not used to seeing posts like yours & we do not fully understand them.
    Respectfully, Keith.

I think there was more to it than that, & I don't think he was asking for his own benefit. I think his posts were a way of telling others how to do it, but he just didn't have the ability to put it into words as it should have been. I imagine I would have the same problem on a Russian forum, but then I wouldn't be on a Russian forum for that reason. This bloke is living in America I assume & is still learning how to communicate.

He only lived in America in 1999. I is now, according to his first post, living in the village he grew up in in Russia on a military pension.

I don't think that he was very interested in doing much here. He never really talked with us he rather mostly talked at us with lots of little weird jabs put in. It is possible that he is one of those people that believes his own country's propaganda. I have dealt with a few Russians online and most of them were smart and no more communist than anyone is here. I am an American but I don't self identify myself as a capitalialist. I'm more Texan than American anyway. I suspect that either he was truly just a troll OR he was the Russian version of an American redneck hillbilly that thought he was swift making fun of all those dumb 'Mericans and Brits.

... and then there is the matter of people who are a few bricks shy of a full load.

Do not assume that someone who has appeared to you as being perfectly normal isn't multi-layered, some layers being warped and some layers being missing. Humans are fascinatingly complex -- the interesting ones are, anyway. Note that the word "interesting" includes attributes noble in nature, yet in some folk "interesting" means clinical, i.e. outright mentally ill, even diseased unto being dangerous.

This person in question being rude wasn't just something lost in translation.

I took it to be some sort of puzzle at first or maybe something that leads to a joke. The thing is that even after doing several searches online there is no clue . I've about decided that it was nonsense tossed out by a troll. He didn't seem to like Westerners much.

Can you answer my question without accessing the Internet?

He meant (oh so many moons ago) can you answer the question without googling it. As in, do you know off hand how many calories one needs to survive (3500 a day?) by growing, I think, potatoes and onions. If he meant he has 3 potatoes and an onion and he is going to eat them, he is doomed. If he is going to use them as seed stock while hunting and foraging, then depending on his location, he may be eating rabbit, onion, and potato stew. And that ain't all bad.

Anyway, I don't know off the top of my head the calorie value of potatoes and onions, but I bet if that's all I had, I would be eating like 50 of both a day, and I would hate my life. Time to move to greener tundra, my man! Let's find some reindeer....
