Preparing for natural disasters is necessary in order to survive. So what is the number one natural disaster? Flooding; according to Floodsmart.gov. Although many people turn down the option to purchase flood insurance, many people have no clue what to do in a flood scenario. So what are your options to protect your home from flooding? Sandbags? Check out this Texas man’s solution:

What are your thoughts? Any better cheaper solutions out there?

If flood waters ever reach our front gate, then all the cities in Australia will be totally submerged.

o_O Oh wow, didn't think about that being a possibility for Australia. I think I would carry a blow up raft in my pocket! I am a pretty terrible swimmer. lol

Great post! Excellent example of identifying a problem and taking definitive action. He did it independantly (without waiting for "common" approval) to save what he veiwed as valuable. I applaud the man and am very glad for his success.

So is this widely known in Australia? That is terrifying!

I wanted to see if there were any cities in the US that this could happen to. I found this older article (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/26/global-warming-flooding_n_3799019.html) that says there are 14 cities that could be lost to global warming and I used to live in or near 3 of them!! How did I not know this? How much of the populations in these low lying areas are oblivious to this fact?

Rural Eastern Kentucky just got hit with terrible/killer flooding. So far the number of deaths stands at 15, but such counts are always prematurely reported. The number 15 is being said to be only half or less of the ultimate number lives lost.

We've had to move to follow jobs. When buying a house, we always study the flood maps first. I hate the term "hundred year flood". I've lived my life in the world of statistics. Statistics only hold when you pan back / if you look over a swath of Earth-time. Mother Nature will do what She will do when She chooses to do it. We've had more than our fair share of flooding up in the mountains. Creeks turn into mighty rivers. When finding a home or retreat, do your homework first.

      Meanwhile in Las Vegas ...
"Las Vegas Strip Impacted By Flooding In Rare Storm"

      https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/watch-las-vegas-strip-impacted-flooding-rare-storm

"Las Vegas is one of the driest cities in the US, except for Thursday night, as a severe thunderstorm rolled into the casino district and wreaked havoc.

"The silver lining is that drought-stricken Vegas has finally received some water." o_O:confused::eek:
