I am starting the same tradition. The firearms will be passed down, with the stipulation that they can't be sold, only given to biological (no in laws) family members. My two sons will get my collection and then to their children.

Emailed a couple of times with Daniel, he gets inundated with spam email and has been very busy. I don't think he has any intention of abandoning the site.

As I already said. The Off Topic category below has a SHTF subforum. I can create a whole other forum solely based on SHTF stuff if need be.

Thank you for your offer, just in case it is needed.

Not a thing wrong with having more than one fallback meetup location. After all, such a thing is completely in line with most survival processes, right?

Lonewolf and Keith: have either of you been successful in getting a reply from Daniel yet? Does it sound like emails /PMs may be getting lost in the shuffle?

Fall back plans are at th ore of prepping. I don't plan to leave this site but if it failed, nice to have a place to reconnect. I have belonged to other forums that did fail, lost touch with some very nice folks.

negative, pm's go unreplied, haven't tried emails yet, the forum seems to be running okay so far so no need to bother him unduly.

Lone Wolf, why can't you seem to understand that some of us here feel like this is a rather special place and group. All any of us are trying to do is make sure that if this site were to go down that we could regroup. This was all in response to a post made by one of the moderators that there was a problem. If the board goes down you are in no way threatened with anything if you wish to reconnect with us. There is no rat to smell involved in this. Maybe you need to change your drawers. LOL, that was a joke. We don't want to lose contact with you or Kieth. the two of you do a great job here and are a big reason that this place is so special.

Civilisations rise, civilisations fall...I've seen plenty of these forums fail for a variety of reasons. some were better than others but they all run their course in the end no matter how good or what is done to try to cling to them.
I have learned a lot from forums over the years, mainly just how much I don't know and have yet to learn.
The same people tend to crop up under different tags and a lot of the misinformation is repeated Ad Nausium until it becomes unchallenged dogmatic"fact"...however I'm glad to say that in this particular forum I have read posts that have been both interesting and informative, written by people that I have great respect for.
If this forum did fold I would consider myself better off for having been a member, thank you.

forums collapse when people don't use them, I don't see that happening here.
I've been on various forums for 10 years and I don't think I've ever convinced anyone of the need to prepare, met my share of trolls though. I think I've served my time on forums.
if this forum folded I think I would retire from forums.

Forums collapse for a variety of reasons, I was on at least 3 survival forums that were under the umbrella of Tribe.net when it closed due to a change in legislation.
Tribe.net had also become a haven for perverts and degenerates who were using it as a way of disseminating the worst kinds of porn and that ruined it for everyone else.
Some people tried to rebuild the forums that were lost, even going to the trouble of buying servers to archive the information but the task of sorting the worthwhile information from the mindless drivel and arguments was too great. There were then privacy and copyright issues to take into account. Supposedly it's all archived somewhere but I doubt anyone remembers where.
SurvivalUK was another forum that folded because the owner/administrator was unable to keep up with the demands of managing the forum as well as real life work/leisure...in effect he hadn't enough hours in the day.
There were others that were started by breakaway members who were like the British versions of GunKid, trolls with forums full of bad information, dangerous stupidity and spite.
If this one folded I would consider setting one up, most of the U.K. Forums have either a profound bias towards Bushcraft or are too politically biased in my view, it would be good to have a more balanced view of prepping....then again I may just lurk in the background and watch silently.

Okay everyone, we appear to be back on track. The admin has contacted lonewolf to say that he is back on deck & dealing with any problems. The main thing is that the admin says that this forum is NOT closing down.
For those of you that have not as yet recieved a reply to any enquiries about blogs or other matters, please address your questions to the Admin.

Is that a fairly common thing, for threads to just go away?

My guess is, now that the forum is back on track, that thread has served its purpose and no longer needed so it was deleted to prevent undue confusion/concern for new members coming in. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me...

I would not be surprised if this one also goes 'poof' once it is noticed... until now, it kinda went on the back shelf a month ago when the last post was made on it.

This was probably the thread that I started WG, & as it was/is no longer applicable, I deleted it. No need for members to find a back-up site so no longer needed. No, we are not in the habit of deleting threads unless they are spam.

Age and inactivity can make a thread difficult to locate or in my case, real poor search techniques.

Yes, but the thread I am referring to began almost the same way this one did, and I had a few comments on it. See above about it being deleted.

Deleting links that direct members to competition is typical self defence for all sites. I still recommend that every member get email or other contact information for 2 or 3 other members. I'm new here and already have alternate means to contact several here. We got past a scare this time but we are preppers and prepping for a site crash is just another in a long list of preps.

    Tha
That thread was started by myself in reply to various members worries about "was the forum going to close". I could not say one way or the other, so to put members minds at rest I gave them a "safe house" link where they could go & stay in touch with each other should this forum go legs up. That thread is no longer applicable, because the Admin is back on track & we have been told that this forum is NOT closing. SO, no need for a safe house anymore. I did not want members to continue joining my forum when there was NO NEED, unless of course they see my forum as ANOTHER source of interaction & wish to be members of BOTH forums. SO, I deleted that thread, regardless of what you or anyone else posted on that thread, it is no longer needed.
If your previous post on that deleted thread is still applicable to the present situation, please feel free to re post the same post on this thread.
    With Respect & regards, Keith.

The thing is mate many of our members have come from failing forums, & they just had a scare here. They do have a right to talk about it, & if we close this thread then someone is likely to start another one. Personally I suggest we let it ride, but feel free to check it out with admin.

I really don't like prolonging the talk of this forum closing, I think that gives the wrong impression and some one like Snyder will come along and wind everyone up.
you and I are the only ones actively looking after this forum, and as such I made an "executive decision" and locked the thread to stop any more negative comments.
if you think i'm wrong then please feel free to open it again.
