    Risk takers have psych issues.

They have no care about those who care about them. This is narcissism writ large.

I always get mad when folk like this get in trouble and then others have to risk their lives to 'rescue' them

I'd rather fight a coyote bare handed.

Much earlier in my youth, a close friend tried to talk me into going skydiving with him. My reply was there are two things that fall from the sky, bird sh1t and fools. I declined to participate.

The classic comeback of pilots to skydivers is, "I'm not jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft."

Best friend of mine in mid-1970s was getting his jump instructions / certifications ... whatever. This guy's brother-in-law was a professional crop-duster and feral dog shooter. His brother in law told him that he wasn't gonna jump out of a perfectly good plane.

My friend's primary jump instructor was doing an air show within a year of my friends qualifying. When he deployed his shoot, parts of the shoot (and maybe the shoot's lines?) caught/melted onto one of his smoke canisters, therefore he couldn't cut-away from his primary to deploy his backup. He literally smoked-it into the ground. (I know some details from his autopsy -- no sane person want's to hear about that stuff).
