I've got a feeling we will be looking more of those VLCC and the gigantic ULCC such as the T1 class being decommission and end up as floating storage. Not even sure if there is still any market niche for those gigantic ULCC vessels

    Good morning Varuna,

    I think you're right.

The bigger ULCC yields a better unit cost of delivered oil but not worth the dredging to have onload/discharge sites set up for this real big boat.

Lets not forget, ULCC or other vessel of similar size couldn't transit trough Malacca Strait where even the smaller VLCC is already difficult enough. For ULCC size vessel they need to transit trough Lombok Strait -> Bali Sea -> Makassar Strait -> Celebes Sea -> Sulu Sea. The transit deep inside Indonesia water will be the most problematic if China decide to go hostile.

    Good morning Varuna,

    That's why I see a Kra Peninsula canal as a win-win-win arrangement.

The proposed canal, flanked by railroads, pipelines, will accommodate the biggest boats, would lessen sailing hours/charter costs and generate much construction work for the participants. One participant would be Singapore. Plus, Indonesia's view of what constitutes their territorial sea and what constitutes an international waterway would be protected.

LOL the Kra Canal was a political bluff that was aim mostly toward Singapore. The time delay in either transiting the canal or offloading in one side to be load on another + the transit into South China Sea is far longer compare to transiting the Malacca Strait :p. Nobody beside the chauvinist Singapore politician bite the bluff. Although the Thailand Royals might use it to boost their own public image.

Submarine escort to do what exactly? o_O A supertanker is a HUGE TARGET that not even the not so smart Cold War era AShM could miss

    Good afternoon Varuna,

The Malucca Strait is too narrow for a traffic lane for the Post Panama Max vessel types combined with being a risky area.

It's not just the Royal Thai government not wanting the Islamic provinces on the peninsula.

The reformatted world will have only a few Great Powers and the rest will fade away to some new format or disappear.

No nation overtly takes out such a ship. There are many countries who loathe China. In times of war, the way to stealth into a country is to go in UNDER large ships, you lamprey the ship. North Korea attempts to put small subs under tankers to test U.S. vulnerability. The U.S. Navy monitors these activities with our submarine fleet.

And varuna your smart-Alec attitude reminds me of when my wife and I had to chaperone high school kids. I guess maybe you are unable to feel shame, just adolescent anger. Go ahead and snip back at me, such we have put up with on dozens and dozens of occasions. We were band parents; all of our children were in school band programs. Many of other folks' kids were spoiled and likely never grew up to be adults. I was a tough dad like my own dad, so my kids actually grew up.

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

The NWO is arranging the new trade routes on a quid pro quo basis. The ships will be safe as long as following the agreements.

The US learned the hard way in re MAS flight 370 in March 2014. It mysteriously disappeared. Three months later, China's SCO ally was alleged to have some involvement in the loss of the MAS flight AMS enroute to KUL. The message became apparent: The SCO now controls the European land mass civil aviation flights.

At least now, the Trump administration seeks quid pro quo agreements with the Dragon.

    Good afternoon Varuna,

A supertanker just can't be attacked by a surface combatant. This is a clear act of war and it would be a world war.

An attack around Andaman Sea on some route to China could have the Dragon closing the Suez Canal, flooding the Gaza Strip population into Cairo, forget the Aswan High Dam,... Taiwan has its flags enroute to museums,

The bad news is how the creditor nation handles the debtor nation.

Today, it's stealth and deceit. "Show the flag" went away after the Great War.

Hopefully we will load the bottom of that floating city with intel "barnacles" (our mega high-tech barnacles are near non-detectable; they store data and do not xmit until ordered to do so via code when the ship is back out at sea). Thus, when this ship puts back into port bringing in a shipment we will gather chemical analysis intel from that important Zhanjiang Harbor Channel. We'll learn the chemical processes used by Chicom commercial and military industries. To truly clean the ship, they would have to damage the ship.

Tell that to Iran. During time of hostility anything possible, because one side choose to forgo whatever international norm there is. The question is whether or not the belligerent willing to take the collateral.

Tucking under large vessel is without enough depth for error margin is a recipe for disaster. It work well around Korean peninsula due to the water depth and oceanic environment, but elsewhere things are different.

I actually never intend to snip (or whatever you wanna call it) let alone condescending toward anyone. What is it you can't take when someone disagree with you or something? or simply can't take when someone know something you don't? or you simply hate when someone doesn't believe the same thing as you, or maybe you just hate anyone who simply difference?

BTW I also not someone who DOESN'T read into political narrative or any other fake news.

I'm sure your life story is interesting, but what does it has to do with the topic at hand?

The Creditor - Debtor relation is far more worrisome than anyone blew up anyone supertanker. Lets face it, an oil spill from a supertanker in a water that is already polluted enough already will make little difference from collateral perspective.
