When nobody has a solution beating the dead horse solves nothing. Waste of time, energy and concern. Never worry about what you can't change. If you really think an ice age is coming, stock up on firewood. If you think we are headed for a new long term heat wave, move into a cave. Talking does nothing but move air around. No solutions, then all it become is the "Chicken Little" cry. The Sky maybe falling but there is nothing that will change it.

your probably right, there is nothing the ordinary person can do about climate change its all gone much too far, nothing you or I do will stop climate change.
I see the UK government now wants to ban all petrol and diesel cars and make everyone drive electric vehicle-but where is all that extra electric to come from?
I don't think it will be long before they ban log burners and make everything all electric, again where does that extra electric come from?
too little, too late, far too late.

AND that is my exact point. Too little, too late, and nothing that will change that facts, including beating that dead zombie horse again.

    Wow...more climate change....more Herding...socially and politically.

As far as I am concerned the purpose of Climate change is to instill fear and insecurity in people...and ultimately the ages olde blame game for political lucre....votes.

The problem historically with this kind of thing taking place is power...and ultimately in line with the blame game is Genocide and also Democide.

In this case ...Democide being death by ones own government/death by democracy...and genocide being by someone else...not your own government.

That is where this will ultimately go in the quest for power and control.....group thinking....manufacturing a bad guy to blame as is so much of todays..."Enlightened " thinking.....social Herding via politics.

    Do not kid yourself....

In mans fallen state and with the status of so many Leftist/Communist/ Socialist thinkers in government and financing the same in our public schools and colleges ..this is exactly where the next generation of professional Herders and Victim Dictum exploiters will mislead countries and nations.

Killing off their own people while blaming them for climate change...and for not following the herd...as obedient ants.

You can see, smell, and taste them lining up right now...to do away with your rights and private property in the up and coming elections...and substituting emotional "Feel Goodism/self justification " via Herding people..and nations.

Observe how stupid some of these people running for public office here are and out in the open...they do not even hide their stupidity......and think no one will notice......they really think they are sitting on the only one in town and theirs does not stink.

    https://www.prisonplanet.com/kamala...er-to-make-decisions-about-the-male-body.html

You have to become educated in the system to become this giftedly blind as well as stupid and then run for public office...and promote climate change.....

    Here is another one....

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...ls-pelosi-racist-singling-out-women-of-color/

Get in a bind.....scream Racism....now that is real leadership.

And these people are going to solve climate change or are they going to do more Herding of people and nations.

Make no mistake...the long term goal of Internationalists...and UN types is to thin the herd....by removing the sovereignty of nations, borders, and people as well as private property. To get rid of "Useless Eaters" as their devout and religious dogma goes.
This has been known in certain circles since the 1960s..but not made known to the public....nor spoken about by most of the press...looking out for us...not spinning.

Here...about "Useless Eaters" if you have never heard anything like this....

fast forward to 8:26 on the dial about where this goes....the common enemy....and listen carefully...it will sound familiar to many members here who have a bit of historical memory going back some 25 plus years in the news media..

Remember what I am trying to say about "herding."

    Be Warned.

If the weather is changing, it doesn't mean that human activities are the sole, or are even a particularly significant, cause of the phenomenon.

It is a fact that more solar radiation is beating down on the mid latitudes of the Earth. It is a fact that our planet's magnetic lines of flux are weakening. Radiation = heat. Put an ice-cube in the microwave. Oh-my-gosh, ice melts when irradiated!

CO2 emissions may have prevented/slowed another ice age

    upload_2023-2-12_15-35-34.png

    --------

"Review of Climate Change Impacts on Human Environment: Past, Present and Future Projections"

    https://www.researchgate.net/public..._Past_Present_and_Future_Projections/download

"The increase of Co2concentration in the atmosphere, which has resulted from
the increase of fossil fuel and causing global warming, is not the only reason for
this warming. Data for the past 2000 years show that the atmospheric concentra-
tions of CO2, CH4, and N2O; the three important greenhouse gases, have in-
creased substantially since about 1750. Rates of increase in levels of these gases
are dramatic. CO2, for instance, never increased more than 30 ppm during any
previous 1000-year period in this record, but it has already risen by 30 ppm in
the past two decades, (Figure 9) [20].

"Some scientists claim that the present global warming resulting from the in-
crease in greenhouse gases emissions is not very bad or maybe even advanta-
geous, and it looks like these emissions are preventing the onset of a new ice age.
Based on previous cycles, the Earth is probably due to going into an ice age
about now. Conditions were starting to line up for a new ice age at least 6000
years ago. Before the Industrial Revolution, summers were getting colder in the
northern hemisphere, but that trend has now been comprehensively reversed
because of the increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere of the earth. One
hypothesis claims that it is not just industrial society, which is responsible for
these emissions, but this had started ever since humans began practicing large-
scale farming, at least 5000 years ago, with the greater emission of methane from
    rice paddies.

Therefore, not just greenhouse gas emissions over the last 200 years may
have stopped us from going into a new ice age, but it is greenhouse gas emis-
sions for the last 5000 years that have collectively helped to steer us away from
the next ice age. By this, we may have delayed the onset of the next ice age for
now, but if another one starts now, it will have big consequences for human
civilization. Besides the fact it would be awfully a lot colder, huge regions
where hundreds of millions of people live would become uninhabitable. They
would be covered in thick ice sheets and subject to an inhospitable climate.
Assuming it was similar to the last ice age, then North America would be cov-
ered in ice, the whole of northern Europe, the whole of northern Asia would be
    covered in ice too.

    The full impacts of a new ice age may be summarized as follows;
    1) There would be a lot less agricultural land available, so it would be very dif-
ficult to support the human population.
    2) The physical shape of the continents would look completely different across
the whole planet due to the receding coastlines of the shrinking seas and oceans.
    3) A huge drop in sea level of up to 120 meters would close down marine
channels; the Mediterranean Sea, Torres Strait, Bass Strait, and Bering Strait, and
create new areas of land that could be used for habitation or agriculture.
    4) Ocean ports would no longer be on the ocean, and anyone wanting water
views would need to relocate large distances

Let me make this simple Global warming 101. Just one active Volcano spews out more carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in one day then all the fuel burning everythings in the USA or China in a year . Ask Any professor of Vaccinology. Fact ICe sample from Antarctica over the last billion or so years also show the trends from the same thing. SO UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO PUT A CORK IN A VOLCANO Even us going back to stone age wont change a thing.

Something I learned just in the past six months or so is that underneath Antarctica, there are several volcanoes. How could that be, I thought. Add to that strange tidbit the number of under-sea volcanoes. o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

I'm sure humanity is spewing too much CO2 into the atmosphere (or maybe not if it will slow-down the onset of the next ice age). Thing to do is to invest in clean nuclear energy. After that, we will find something better than fission reactors. There are much cleaner fission reactors even as we speak, however they are VERY expensive to build.

Panic is simply bad. China is the worst CO2 offender. Rest assured that they are in NO panic condition.

Wise countries need to stop with the emotions and use their wisdom to develop the necessary technologies. This is very very very possible to do. I've worked industry and when people put their minds to solutions, solutions happen.

Side-story: We could insert sulfur into the upper atmosphere to reflect radiant energy from the sun. Currently, we are removing sulfur from our coal fuel. Go figure.

If one is at war, any form of war (against disease, against poverty, against whatever ...), then panic is the last thing to allow to happen. Panic = defeat 100%

Not strictly true, of course, and I presume you mean vulcanology, not vaccinology (which would have been a very clever segue into another contentious subject). In principle you are, of course, correct. There are a global average of 12-14 (and yes, I got that figure from a friend who actually is a vulcanologist) perpetually active volcanoes on earth, some on land, some in the ocean and, yes, they put out more noxious gases than all the fossil fuels we burn. The question is really what effects the additional stuff chucked out by human activity makes. One can argue, quite successfully, that prior to mankind's industrialisation the balance was neutral. There were however exceptions, check out Iceland's volcanic history for that.

    "What's the hottest Earth's ever been? "

    https://www.climate.gov/news-features/climate-qa/whats-hottest-earths-ever-been

    Begin quote

    The tropical Arctic

A Smithsonian Institution project has tried to reconstruct temperatures for the Phanerozoic Eon, or roughly the last half a billion years. Preliminary results released in 2019 showed warm temperatures dominating most of that time, with global temperatures repeatedly rising above 80°F and even 90°F—much too warm for ice sheets or perennial sea ice. About 250 million years ago, around the equator of the supercontinent Pangea, it was even too hot for peat swamps!

Another hothouse period was the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) about 55-56 million years ago. Though not quite as hot as the Cretaceous hothouse, the PETM brought rapidly rising temperatures. During much of the Paleocene and early Eocene, the poles were free of ice caps, and palm trees and crocodiles lived above the Arctic Circle.

During the PETM, the global mean temperature appears to have risen by as much as 5-8°C (9-14°F) to an average temperature as high as 73°F. (Again, today’s global average is shy of 60°F.) At roughly the same time, paleoclimate data like fossilized phytoplankton and ocean sediments record a massive release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, at least doubling or possibly even quadrupling the background concentrations.

It is still uncertain where all the carbon dioxide came from and what the exact sequence of events was. Scientists have considered the drying up of large inland seas, volcanic activity, thawing permafrost, release of methane from warming ocean sediments, huge wildfires, and even—briefly—a comet.

Modern human civilization, with its permanent agriculture and settlements, has developed over just the past 10,000 years or so. The period has generally been one of low temperatures and relative global (if not regional) climate stability. Compared to most of Earth’s history, today is unusually cold; we now live in what geologists call an interglacial—a period between glaciations of an ice age. But as greenhouse-gas emissions warm Earth’s climate, it's possible our planet has seen its last glaciation for a long time.

"Fact Check: Is This the Hottest Summer on Earth"

    https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2023/09/06/fact-check-this-is-not-the-hottest-summer-on-earth/

"CNN’s headline proclaimed: 'The world has just experienced the hottest summer on record – by a significant margin.'

"... The 'record' referred to is kept by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization and European climate service Copernicus. It goes back only to 1940.

"You can find similarly alarming headlines from CBS News, the Guardian, and the Associated Press.

"Researchers for the Smithsonian Institution surveyed the earth’s temperatures over the last 500 million years. ...

"This study was not undertaken by climate change deniers. In fact, the researchers who undertook it wanted to prove how devastating climate change can be to life on earth.

"So what is going on with all these media organizations claiming this is the hottest recorded summer on earth? A lot of misleading work is being done by the phrase 'on record' or the word 'recorded' in the news stories.

"The records of fossilized corals, leaf shapes, ancient glaciations, and hothouse periods show that global temperatures are nowhere near as warm as they have been in the past. It may be hot out there this summer—perhaps even the hottest in decades—but we are nowhere near the hottest temperatures the earth has experienced."

Yes, this is it. The problem is the establishment who, with their cohorts have turned it into an industry and a way to increase tax. Same old story really. I go back to my oft mentioned view, which is that the climate changes all the time and it does that naturally, it has been colder and hotter in past times. The only influence we have is over mankind's activities and too many people are making too much money for meaningful change to happen.

We people of this age and our great-grandfathers should be vastly more careful in spewing toxins into the atmosphere.

One on the international corps for whom I once worked used a specific chemical by the drum-fulls. This agent made Freon look like distilled water. What we used KILLED ozone in full turbo-mode (electronics industry). That was stopped ... by the company. Wasn't imposed by government, yet dangerous is dangerous. Other methodologies were discovered. Capitalists do actually have a gag reflex. I've so many stories. Born in the first Eisenhower administration. Oh God, what all I've seen. Too much. Too much death and on and on ...

Were I the Dictator of the West, I would incentivize the fat oil companies to come up with nuclear solutions. Meanwhile, I would task the Army Corps of Engineers with the mission of Quality Control. At first, things would be nasty and the nuclear waste would have to be housed in geo-stable rock formations. Scandinavia has massive rock formations -- so do other countries. America has some. I'd go Scandinavia.

During my dictatorship, I would execute anyone cutting corners on safety. I'd go communist China on them. Which is to say, I'd have them shot. I'd play the recordings of the executions to the executives of the nuclear energy companies to bring that necessary humility to them. "We are going to do this thing. You will make money. You will be safe. You will play by the rules. If you do not, you will be rendered ambient temperature. Maybe I'll get sprayed with your brains myself. Don't cross me, OK. "

During my dictatorship, we would use fossil fuels as efficiently as possible. There would be a whole lot more use of diesel than gasoline. Gasoline does not burn efficiently.

After going nuclear, we would have made major repairs to our power grid. We would electrify many of our train systems. Diesel trains would still be about, I'd not instantly get rid of them. They'd make for great backup, had we grid failures. Trains are efficient. 18-wheeler trucks are good for regional transport, not national.

Sanity dictates that one phase-out one technology as updated technologies come online. There is no such thing as "either or" on this planet. We humans only have what intellect we have. Sad thing that.

    Gaia-worshipers are mentally ill.

I dont believe in GAIA as a goddess or any of the other beliefs, but the Earth is a living organism in the fact that if we dont look after it the earth will die.
I am not a lover of technology-I think I've made that plain before- and not looking after all things natural will be the downfall of the human race, we only have one planet we should not foul it up.

I think you're right Lonewolf and we should view the planet like we would a coral reef or a portuguese man o' war or even an ant's nest in that it is made up of a multitude of things, all of which are vital to its survival.

I too dislike technology and strongly believe that the modern "joined up age" will contribute to mankind's downfall. If I have learned one thing from the Ukraine fiasco it is that putting our eggs in one basket is a fool's move.

We need, as a planetary population, to become more self reliant (as people were only 150 years ago) and to be able to weather any storm that comes. Today's response to a catastrophe is to put our hands out and expect somebody else to help. A little self reliance goes a long way.

you are so right BB, the standard remark about anything that goes wrong is " what is the govt doing about it".

They aren't. I believe it is even worse in the cities where this is a culture of "getting someone in" to do even the most menial of maintenance tasks. At least here in the "sticks" we have to do our own bidding and that keeps us self reliant.

being in housing association property its a little bit different for us, we are supposed to report all repairs to the HA, we can have "someone in" but we have to have 3 estimates, if we do it ourselves we have to have it checked by an official trades person, so in general its not worth the time or effort, although we did have the bathroom done to a higher standard than HA would provide, without asking permission.

To be fair that is an integral part of the T&Cs you comply with for living there. In privately owned property people often get tradespeople in to do things they would readily have done themselves only a few years ago.
