First of all we here don't have PM here. And secondly that is SCMP one of the mouth piece of those HK ers who riot & looting. Furthermore the narrative is beyond the context of the actual situation. What they were referring as blocking burial was happen due to administration problem (paper work) rather than plague related. And they were isolated cases rather than the norm. HK ers journalist are no different than white western media, they making out news out of the blue, and when confront by hard fact they defend themselves by claiming that the data were hidden from public (or anything else within that line) despite the fact that the raw data are available in public domain for the public to see & scrutinize.

    Good afternoon Varuna,

Sometimes "PM" and "President" are used interchangeably even though not technically correct.

Charles DeGaulle was the President but many outside France used term PM. It's also seen with the most senior person of China, Xi.

SCMP is different than the Asian Wall Street Journal, or Straits Times or China Daily ? Interesting material that can be "exploited" gets published for general readers. Commodity prices and ship sailing schedules don't work. Even Indonesia presented as the world's largest with an Islamic population, most are nominal, at best, believers. The purpose of public information is for a reason.

I doubt if much data in the public domain is available to the public. Indonesia's "public domain" is like the rest of the nations' "public data".

Do you really believe 2 hospital ships sailed for medical reasons even though presented in the best US news sources ? Do you really believe the COVID statistics of US even though published in the best news sources.

At least a few nations are honest about their closed societies.

Although the statistic regarding demographic and also few other things are literally trash, thus should not be use to make business decision let alone political one, funeral application and many other civil record are open to public. In fact in city such as Jakarta it is available online, while those smaller or rural municipality the record is available for public to inquire about (albeit not available online). All the journalist need to do is coming the the related office and ask nicely & politely (not being d-bag or a-hole as they usually do). In fact there are too many record that are open to public to the point corporations typically avoid civil court out to settle dispute out of fear that their proprietary information will be release to the public (of which it will). Another example is Geospatial information down to 1:5000 scale which also available online for public, same things with volcanology, geological, weather, etc, although hydrographic chart along with their POI is classified for the obvious reason.

For reason I couldn't fathom journalist doesn't seem to aware that such information are available to public. But than again around here journalist isn't the type of person that fit the definition of "the best the nation could offer" either (IMO they are mostly close to the bottom of the barrel by my standard)

    Good afternoon Varuna,

Just looked but couldn't retrieve the articles but should be somewhere on the web.

Re SCMP and ~ year long "disturbances", the SCMP supported the protests but not the petrol bomb events nor the looting.

There's a time line to this because China stepped in - and it was visible to some -.

After that 23 y.o. murderer confessed re the Taiwan homicide, shortly after the hospital workers went "on strike" (Br Eng: "industrial action"). SCMP supported the Lam government and said the strikes were illegal. It is lawful to strike in re working conditions and related matters of employment. It is illegal to strike - and close down the critical facility - for political protests in re the guy who murdered his girlfriend in Taiwan.

    Good afternoon Varuna,

Obviously the big world event now is the pandemic and the restructuring economic programs., from airlines, agriculture, to schools, to stores, etc.

US COVID designated deaths are suspect and funerals in the news here in the US are big events. Only days ago a big funeral scandal occurred in NYC re an ultra-orthodox Jewish funeral. It's all less about old people dying and more about the restructuring, less the mourners who probably don't know.

The death/funeral data is needed for the restructuring. It wasn't a slow news day that SCMP publishes a story about funerals in Indonesia related to COVID and article has a picture of assembled Muslims in a mosque without social distancing practiced.

What is presented as business decisions, political decisions and public records are not correct information if sensitive.

Yes, exceptions are numerous for nominal records like Joe Sixpack bought a house and it's recorded in the county courthouse records. The important records with political implications are not available to the public and are thus secret.

If you like gallows-humor, you'll like America's suicide records. America's first Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal, committed suicide. Today it's the COVID death certificates and related medical records on the cause of the infection.

Actually, oceanographic records are easier to get than geospatial. All geospatial records cannot be obtained. Not providing example because the word harvesters will have fun with me. After the Malaysia flight MH 370, March, 2014, the US (by contractor) mapped the seabed of the Andaman Sea. It wasn't to prepare for mining deep sea pellets.

Real journalists write articles for compensation. The compensation is not based on produced advertising revenues. It is more about politically-generated wealth transfers. SCMP is just a mirror of the Washington Post tailored to the specific audience.

Meanwhile the world is restructuring and many medical professionals will go the way of blacksmiths. So will those running the US funeral racket.

That is one of the primary differences between Civil Law vs Common Law. In Civil Law system everything are open for public. Obviously there is exception such as domestic case or anything else pertinent to personal privacy. Critical political / high profile cases are typically broadcast LIVE on TV. Which is why it is extremly important for any legal practitioner not only to get their case tight but also making sure clean & shaven face with matching hairstyle.

Woow your saying that getting Clintoned no longer trending there, particularly against those who might whisper blowing against the Clinton dynasty?

Hydrography is more about mapping the "characteristic" of the water (WHERE & WHEN of Salinity, Temperature, Biological, etc) NOT merely the terrain contour (Bathymetry) which is why they are typically Classified, while the underwater terrain themselves are available to public. Which is also why most of the world hydrograohic survey vessel are mostly Navy own & operated.

    Good evening Varuna,

Today's historic Common Law societies have a blurry mix of Civil Law and Common Law. It was FDR who changed this with his Administrative Procedures Act and the Administrative Law Judges - all not in the judiciary but in the executive branch of government. There are informal rules of procedure and evidence. The famous "hearsay" rule is a joke. I'm told that hearsay is allowed.

Here, the big "super law firms" have their own public relations departments. If after focus groups and polls yield situations unfavorable to the law firm, changes in the handling of the case are made.

The Clintons are now minor spots on the screen. The BIG $$$ is the Eastern Establishment and that means Trump.

Outside of professional groups - many south and north of here because of the USN presence - hydrography and bath. are blended terms...again: understanding that they are distinct among professionals. The costs of survey vessels are "front end loaded". For only nominal additional costs, all information can be sought by the scientists/engineers.

I believe the post MH 370 accidental loss had a civilian vessel of Norwegian registry (noting that Norway is a NATO member)working the survey. The current view is to use vessels best suited for the political environment. MH 370 was a civilian aircraft. The political considerations govern.

    ......

I've read the Brit's Official Secrets Act of 1911 in my fraternity bro's law office while waiting for him for a lunch meeting. He told me that Common Law England had changed like the US. He said the law I just read eliminates the presumption of innocence - a major Common Law principle. He explained that here in the US, an inheritor of the Common Law, national security defendants are still presumed innocent until the Washington Post hits the news stands.

In any law system presumption of innocence is only applicable in court (be that court of law or court of justice), otherwise any investigation against any suspect will not be practical

    Good morning Varuna,

In the US, there are several law systems involving courts.

Presumption of innocence is not always used.

The US has changed since it's earlier eras.
