I tell university students that I was born in the first Eisenhower administration. Get puzzled looks from some -- they don't know who he was. Yes, I did say university students. Kind'a speaks to the level of education they are receiving, doesn't it.
the independent country of India came into being in 1948....the same year I did!! I doubt if any of the YOUNG people protesting have ever heard of Ghandi or Indian independence or indeed the partitioning of the country shortly afterwards.
I don't know why the "protesters" wouldn't know Ghandi. He can hold is own when going full-bore hip-hop.
I expect they've seen the film (which is quite old now)but they wouldn't connect it to an actual historical event, to them its just a film.
