Desert Temperature Extremes

Above explains why arid deserts have an extreme temperature range.

All wilderness not necessarily temperate zone forests where, in case of an emergency, you can ask some nearby tree-huggers to borrow their JUDY bag for a warm sleeping bag.

The US had a short history about the use of camels in the desert. Some were imported into the US pre-Civil War by SecWar Jefferson Davis. Believe the type of desert they were deployed to didn't match their feet requirements.

I learned in some Army survival course "Night is winter in the desert".

 

120+ Fahrenheit of the days and in the 20's at night. What's not to love. LOL!

Years ago we went to Palm Desert/Indio area out in Southern California to visit some of my parents friends when traveling across America. I was stunned to learn how cold it can become in the desert when the sun goes down.

The differential or spread in temperatures from day to night is very very telling. I needed to have some kind of jacket after the sun went down.

Lessons learned...lessons learned.
