    Good morning all,

Today, Thursday, 15 Oct 20 is the national drill re earthquake responses.

Above link is just one of many. The basics are in the link with spinoff sites.

    My FWIW reminder:

Upgrade gloves, at least to teach the kids, to sturdy workgloves ... something that can handle glass slivers, broken glass pieces, glass dust, ...

An earthquake, during the pandemic also requires a face mask of some sort. Do consider eye protection.

Speaking of the "Drop, cover and hold on" plan, a couple of years ago, well prior to the pandemic quarantine, I went to a meeting at the local library's community room on Earthquake Day. In lieu of a flight bag that typically serves as my attache case for BOB/kit supplies ... at this community room always carry a drag blanket ... had a helmet bag with hard hat.

For those that remember the Boy Scout merit badge pamphlet on animal husbandry with small kid on stool milking the cow, I went to library with an identical small stool and carried it holding it with one hand to get the attention of the fast learners at the meeting.

    Only a few prepared.

As of now, I use the 3% number for quantity of new neighbors, community members, when all Hades breaks out, whether an earthquake or a shortage of dishwashing soap.

    ......

    Shake, shake, shake ...........

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

This fault line is - known to the state of California - and they have a program to sell earthquake insurance.

Sounds like Big Brother "has it all worked out".

Just think, goodfellows get busted for running protection rackets. If the Feds get involved, they'll go RICO on your family. However, governments don't get busted for protection scams, nor do they do time for printing funny money.

Earthquakes ... Volcano eruption? ... mega tsunami?

"A Swarm Of 700 Earthquakes Rattles Canary Islands, Sparks Speculation Of Volcanic Eruption"

    https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/s...slands-sparking-speculation-volcanic-eruption

    https://websites.pmc.ucsc.edu/~ward/papers/La_Palma_grl.pdf

"A massive earthquake swarm has been reported around the volcanic island of La Palma in the Canary Islands of Spain. The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) said there's reason to believe the seismic swarm is due to magma slowly rising.

"For clues about a possible eruption. Local officials reported a sensor at the volcano took a reading of the "highest Helium-3 levels in 30-years." The gas is considered a message from the mantel and may suggest future volcanic activity.

"Cumbre Vieja volcano last erupted in 1971, considered one of the most active volcanoes of the Canary Islands. There have been fears an eruption could cause a megatsunami. Steven Ward first explained this theory in research from the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, University of California, Santa Cruz, California, two decades ago."

    -----------------------------------------

    https://electroverse.net/intensifying-seismic-crisis-at-la-palma-volcano-mega-tsunami-potential/

"During the past 24 hours, earthquakes have been moving westwards and have become shallower, reveals data coming out of the National Geographic Institute (IGN). This is a concerning development, and likely indicates continued magma intrusion and migration under the surface, a contention which is also supported also by the continued deformation of the surface in the same area as the quakes — in places, the ground has been uplifted by 1.5 cm (almost one inch) already."

"Furthermore, this week’s swarm is occurring at the south of the island — the worst possible location (for reasons explained below)."

"What If the Canary Island, La Palma Mega Tsunami Actually Happened?"

    https://amg-news.com/archives/14381

"This is a very steep island in the Atlantic that has had a major collapse of land masses in the past that caused tsunamis that traveled across the Atlantic ocean.

"Experts say if it happens again, the wave would take about 7-9 hours to reach the eastern coast of the US. The wave would be apx. 30 meters high, or 100 feet. It would go inland about 25 miles. It would wipe out all coastal cities from Florida to Maine with a death toll of 40 million or more.

"One of the indications of an impending eruption is the sign of helium 3 coming out of the ground in a volcanic area, and this has been reported by volcano experts monitoring the volcano. At this time the earthquakes have been up to 3.9 magnitude at an apx. depth of 7 kilometers and getting shallower everyday."

    volcano? tsunami? Canary Islands continued

    http://www.med-etc.com/natur/tsunami/ENGL/tsunami-La-Palma-ENGL-001.html

    Quoted material in color Blue:

Volcanic Islands: Rainfalls increase the water pressure in the volcano

The rain plays a certain role here, because the water pressure is often decisive: landslides on volcanoes often occur after rainfall because the water pressure between the stones is then increased (26'19 '').

So: volcanoes are always porous ["like a pile of gravel"], the rainwater collects in them, volcanoes are like gigantic sponges that fill with the rainwater (26'36 ''). The volcanic rock ABOVE sea level is saturated with water from rain, the volcanic rock becomes heavier and this increases instability. The volcanic rock BELOW sea level is not only saturated with water, but all cavities are filled with sea water. When a volcanic eruption occurs, the rock is heated by the lava, the water boils, turns into steam and everything explodes. A sea volcano is like a pressure cooker (27'20 '').

On the beach, the tsunami wave grows 3 to 4 times, this is the case also with normal waves (34'7 ''). A 10m high wave on the ocean will be 30m high (34'11 '') on the beach, so it will be in "America" with 9 to 30m high waves - not all scientists believe that, but those who studied the tsunamis around Ritter Island know that it will be like this (34'40 ''). 9 hours after the landslide, the Bermudas are destroyed with 27m high waves, including the Bahamas (34'55 ''). 10 hours after the landslide, the entire east coast of the "USA" is on the line (35'5 ''). The "USA" have exactly 10 hours for the evacuation from the collapse of the island of La Palma, the people have to save themselves in high buildings (36'39 '').

The island chain of the "Outer Banks" off North Carolina is flooded (37'41 ''). The tsunami consists of several waves, the first does not even have to be the largest, the tsunami wave is full of mud and rubbish, people are "swept away" (38'38 ''). The first wave can be for example up to 12m high, then the water will withdraw for 30 minutes. In total, there can be up to 12 waves that flow in and flow back (39'0 ''). The second wave destroys what the first wave has not yet destroyed, there can be 20 waves in a back and forth during 5 hours (39'25 '').

In Florida, 8.5 million people live in the danger zone (39'41 ''). Miami and Date County are located in a low-lying area with a population of 2.5 million (39'58 ''). The water power at 32km / h is 13 tons for each person (40'26 ''). Miami will have major evacuation problems (41'4 ''). After 5 hours of tsunami waves, thirst, hunger and water pollution follow, and the reconstruction will then take years, the "USA" will for the first time be dependent on international aid on a large scale (42'43 '').

A time bomb is ticking: mega-tsunami against the east coast of the "USA" - 200km3 of rock fall into the Atlantic

Film by Thom Goddard (1'9 ''). 50 million people live on the east coast of the "USA" from Boston to Miami, they are threatened by a geological time bomb (1'23 ''). Prof. Bill McGuire: Well, there comes an atomic bomb with the speed of a jumbo jet and nothing will be left (1'33 ''). Dr. Simon Day: Tsunamis can end up being several stories high on the beach and pulling up to 20km inland (2'0 ''). Dr. Mark Maslin: Everything will be destroyed, New York, Miami, Bahamas (2'5 ''). Prof. Bill McGuire: From the Canary Islands to "America" there will be about 8 hours, from New York to Miami all coastal cities will be destroyed, including the Bahamas and the Caribbean, millions of deaths and gigantic destruction are possible (2'35 '').

Dr. Simon Day: These megatsunamis can get up to 1km high and are triggered by landslides (2'45 ''). Speaker: So first there is an earthquake, then a landslide into the sea [sliding to the ground of the sea down to 6000m deep], and then the tsunami is provoked, often up to 20m high at the end (3'0''). A mega-tsunami, however, is much higher: Prof. Bill McGuire: The issue here [on the volcanic island of La Palma] is about 200km3 of rock material that threatens to fall into the Atlantic, and that causes a much higher tsunami than just an earthquake, when the seabed is shaken a little (3'33 '').

Volcanic islands: Magma is rising - groundwater in the volcano heats up - the vapor pressure blows the whole island apart

Dr. Simon Day: The research clearly came to the conclusion that after a volcanic eruption the giant landslides are triggered (3'52 ''). When the lava rises, the flank of the volcano is blasted off by heating the groundwater in the volcano and the steam pressure then bursts the mountain exactly where there is a weak point (4'11 ''). A whole mountain side then slides into the ocean and triggers a mega tsunami (4'20 '').

The flat east coast of the "USA" allows tsunamis to penetrate far inland

The Chesapeake Bay intensifies the tsunami against Washington DC and against Philadelphia (4'31 ''). Prof. Bill McGuire: The tsunamis are getting smaller or bigger, it depends on the shape of the coastline and how flat the coastline is, so on a flat coast tsunamis can penetrate for kilometers inland (4'40 ''). In a bay or river mouth, the wave can intensify, get higher and higher and destroy entire harbors (4'51 ''). With high cliffs, however, the tsunami does not go so far inland (4'55 ''). Dr. Mark Maslin: The starting point of this super tsunami is the volcanic island of La Palma in the Canaries (5'5 ''). With a new volcanic eruption, half of the island of La Palma can crash into the sea and trigger a 600m high tsunami (5'14 ''). Prof. Bill McGuire: So the Canaries are all active volcanoes, on La Palma there are three volcanoes, and from time to time they collapse and then provoke gigantic tsunamis (5'28 '').

So: Normal earthquakes can cause tsunamis up to 20m high, but in the case of the island of La Palma, if half the island falls into the sea, then the tsunami will be up to 600m (2000 feet) high (5'44 ''), on the "US" east coast the tsunami will still be 50 to 150m high, so as high as the Statue of Liberty or half as high as the Eiffel Tower (5'49 '').

Volcano eruption Breaking: LA PALMA’S LOCAL GOVERNMENT JUST ANNOUNCED EVACUATIONS PLANS ARE BEING READIED

volcano eruption – yellow warning issued after 100s of tremors

BRITONS still enjoying their summer holidays in La Palma, Spain, will face a regional yellow warning for the Cumbre Vieja volcano area, following hundreds of tremors since the weekend.

The Canary Islands Government has activated the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Attention to Volcanic Risk Emergencies (PEVOLCA) in the Cumbre Vieja area (La Palma) due to the increase in seismic activity registered in recent days.

Specifically, the Alert Plan has been activated for Fuencaliente, Los Llanos de Aridane, El Paso and Mazo, resulting in the change of the traffic light from green to yellow for these municipalities.

Officials say the “highest levels of Helium-3 detected in 30 years” in the volcanic ridge was a detonator.

There's been a bit of a slowdown in quake activity at La Palma. Scary thing is that the quakes are getting nearer and nearer the surface. The magma is moving up up up. So far, 920 quakes have been felt.

Why the dickens do people live on volcanic islands?! It's the "it won't happen to me" phenomenon. Crazy! Lemmings must point and stare at humans for being such professional victims.

La Palma Island (Canary Islands): earthquake swarm slows down
    Thu, 16 Sep 2021, 09:09
    09:09 AM

"The earthquake swarm has slowed down significantly over the past 24 hours, but it is too early to draw conclusions as to whether the crisis might soon be ending or whether it will pick up again in intensity.
Seismic activity continued to migrate slightly to the northwest and quakes were mostly at depths of around 8 km, although there were also 20 quakes at only 1-3 km to the surface. The maximum accumulated deformation reached about 6 cm by yesterday, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported. The rate of deformation has decreased, suggesting that the recent pulse of new magma intrusion might be over.

"Since the start of the earthquake swarm, IGN has recorded more than 4200 quakes, of which 920 were strong enough to be located."

Latest on La Palma volcano in Canary Islands. Earthquake swarms began slowing down yesterday and I've not seen any data to indicate that the intense activity has returned. Earthquakes were detected at only three kilometers down -- this happens when these puppies are going to blow up. The Spanish government has issued warnings, but so far has not ordered evacuations.

Here is an informative video from yesterday Sept 16th. In it, the reporter goes over the impact on the U.S. east coast and how many miles inland a tsunami / flooding would occur should the volcano cause a massive landslide (remember how Mount St. Helens' flank was blown off!). Tens of millions would die in the U.S. -- Florida would be a goner. The Caribbean would be depopulated. The west coast of Africa could see tidal waves over 300 ft (100+ meters) in height. The Netherlands would go under the ocean.

La Palma still not in scary-scary mode like it was a few days back. If it does go off, it probably will NOT be powerful enough to blow the side off the mountain (re: Mt. St. Helens) and generate a big tsunami. A major landslide could be a killer for some Caribbean islands, maybe Miami, but not for continents -- the monster waves wouldn't go inland very far at all.

Spanish gov. still has an alert out at condition yellow (not red).

"Officials warned that when the lava hits the ocean, it will explode and produce clouds of toxic gases as it rapidly cools – causing further damage to local people’s health and homes.

"1,000C of lava would react with a mere 20C of salt water and produce a harmful “gas bomb” – which could result in acid rain, structural damage and land destruction.

"There will be an explosion of water vapor that appears as a dense white cloud, which can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.

"Acidic smog can also significantly reduce visibility at sea, forcing the closure of a shipping area to the west of the island.

I have been watching this every day. The "experts" are saying this eruption could last almost three months, although I did see somewhere that the eruptions were diminishing in intensity. I am somewhat surprised there isn't more news here keeping people apprised. If that island ever really blows the way many predict the East Coast of the United States will be like Atlantis.

If La Palma blows even in a small way, the Caribbean Islands and Miami are toast. Millions would die. Other low-lying port cities would also see catastrophic damage. It sure doesn't take "the Big One" to take-out ports.

This is true of the Atlantic and let's face it, the Pacific Ring of Fire is lighting up and if any one of numerous very over-due earthquakes lets go, then we are going to see massive loss of life. Look what happened to Indonesia. Mega damage to America's west coast could be a tipping point for this fragile economy to sink like the Titanic.

"Volcanic ash cloud closes La Palma airport; new vent emerges"

    https://abcnews.go.com/Internationa...rt-flights-canceled-due-volcanic-ash-80227363

"MADRID -- The airport on the Spanish island of La Palma shut down Saturday because of an ash cloud spewing out of a volcano that has been erupting for a week, and scientists said another volcanic vent opened up, exposing islanders to possible new dangers.

"The intensity of the eruption that began Sept. 19 has increased in recent days, prompting the evacuation of three additional villages on the island, part of Spain's Canary Islands archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean off northwest Africa. Almost 7,000 people have been forced to abandon their homes.

"La Palma Airport operator Aena said the airport was “inoperative” due to the accumulation of ash. Other airports in the Canary Islands were still operating Saturday but some airlines were suspending flights, Aena said.

"Emergency crews pulled back from the volcano Friday as explosions sent molten rock and ash over a wide area. The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute said another vent opened early Saturday."

In relation to Book of Revelation, Chapter 8

The good news is that ships are a LOT more seaworthy and tough to sink that were those at the time of this prediction. I worked in a shipyard for 13 years and have seen ships come in with AMAZING damage that still came in under their own power. You would think that a ship running around in a big mostly empty ocean and gulf could avoid collisions but alas, they can't stop or turn very fast and so do have collisions with things that don’t move.

A big tsunami would wash ships a couple of miles inland.

Japan, this ship had to be disassembled; too far inland after tsunami:

Japan has NO protection. It is pretty flat along the coast. Most of our major west coast ports are not right on the exposed coast. A lot of the west coast has some protection by having a pretty fast rise. There are areas that are death traps. People seem to love living under a volcano or on or near the beach where they can be wiped out. ???

The Netherlands, Florida's Miami, many Caribbean islands would be toast.

I really don't get it when it comes to people living where lava flows. In L.A., people build houses right on the edge of land-slides. And it really irks me how folk build in forests that EVERYBODY knows WILL burn. Then when something happens, they go, "Oh, why did this happen to my family?!" Were I an insurance company, I would NEVER underwrite them.

When we moved to the Midwest, we got the flood maps for the place and avoided any real estate where flooding could conceivably occur. A potential one-thousand year flood? Nope, don't want it.

    Here's some interesting real estate:

Psychological study. Anti-survivalism. Bizarre beyond all imaginings. Why do people imagine that, "It can't happen to them."?

    https://news.trust.org/item/20210927183954-0602o

"LA PALMA, Spain, Sept 27 (Reuters) - A volcano on Spain's La Palma island began ejecting lava again on Monday after a lull, while hundreds of people in coastal villages hunkered down in anticipation of lava emitted in previous days reaching the sea and releasing toxic gas."

    ---------------------

O.Gzr: "... hunkered down ..." Holy crap! They are psychologically frozen. They can't break out of their safety zone. The decision to leave, i.e. logic, is too much for them.

Over the years I have observed that there are a great number of people that seem to work on the idea that if you don't say it then it won't happen. I infuriated a guy one time by simply pointing out that the house that he was looking at to buy had been flooded more than once. I had assumed that he didn’t know. He knew but somehow seemed to feel that it couldn’t happen to him. With no knowledge he was just sure that they had somehow fixed that problem. 3 years later he had about 4 feet of water in the house and was furious.

He is what I refer to as TSTL. If things ever go even a little bit off the tracks he will be TO STUPID TO LIVE!!

Increased intensity of volcano on La Palma island within the Canary Islands:

"Lava blocks the size of buildings falling from La Palma volcano"

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/10/europe/lava-canary-islands-volcano-la-palma-eruption-intl/index.html

"There were 21 seismic movements on Sunday, with the largest measuring 3.8, the Spanish National Geological Institute (ING) said, shaking the ground in the villages of Mazo, Fuencaliente and El Paso.
The blocks of red-hot magma flowed down the side of the Cumbre Vieja volcano were the size of three-story buildings, the Spanish Institute of Geology and Mining said on Sunday.

"There was a partial cone collapse near the volcano's emission vent on Saturday, Stavros Meletlidis, a spokesman for ING told Reuters.

"'The collapse of the northern flank of the Cumbre Vieja volcano has caused the release of large blocks of material and the appearance of new flows that run through areas already evacuated,' tweeted Spain's National Security Department."

    https://ghionjournal.com/tsunami-advisory-look-east-at-the-lake-of-fire-flowing/

"The bad news I am bearing is related to the La Palma volcano that is currently spewing out lava in ways never witnessed in history. I now know, after extensive research, that the “safety and security” alert that was issued by the Department of Homeland Security, which caused major events like the Marine Corps Marathon to be canceled, is directly tied to the lake of fire that is flowing from the mountain to the ocean on the Canary Islands.

"Politicians, mainstream media and the establishment writ large are not telling us about the worst-case scenario because they don’t want to “create a panic”. Perhaps there is merit to that line of thinking because having a crush of people fleeing the coastal areas and heading to high elevations would be a public safety nightmare. But their rationale goes out the window when people who work the White House, Congress and the uber-rich they answer to are being given a heads up so they can take precautionary measures while the rest of us are being kept in the dark.

"I know that the “elites” are acting on this intel because I saw a White House staffer at Giant a couple of weeks ago buying up two carts full of non-perishable items and a reporter from NBC news confirmed that he knows about the terror alert that was issued by DHS while acknowledging that the news is not being told to the general public. Like cowards, the aristocrats are preparing to flee at the first sight of trouble while not giving the rest of us poor schmucks a chance to save our souls."

the East Coast of the UK around Norfolk/East Anglia/ The Wash / is all low lying and that is where any flooding would occur, The Somerset Levels are also below sea level and have flooded before, in recent times and in times further back, thankfully most of the South West of England has high cliffs and would not suffer such damage, having said that there was a big flood disaster in Lynton and Lynmouth back in 1952. of course a lot of places now have flood defences.
I believe some minor earthquakes have happened in the North of England when they were carrying out some fracking, this area of the country is all Granite . there is a walking trail not far away which is called "The Granite Way".

Considering how the tyrants ruling over the masses want to mandate all the little people to obediently go get the clot shot , the rich lording over the people may want mass death for those they see as scum on their land . A tsunami wiping out a huge portion of those folks they deem contributing to global warming might delight them . So why warn them .

Mr. William Gates lives near Seattle. When the Cascadia Suduction Zone lets go, Bill will be in deep water ... deep sh## too. Probably deep in Hell, because he thinks he is a god.

No evidence fracking caused them, the likelihood is it had no impact/cause on any quakes at all; the UK get 20-30 earthquakes a year strong enough to be felt and many more minor ones
    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/uk-earthquakes-highest-magnitude-a4524201.html

They've cut down flights to La Palma but the main airport is still in operation.

I believe your mistaken there, some fracking has been proved to cause minor earthquakes, that is why there is so much objection to fracking.
like I said its Granite country here so no earthquakes.

Fracking has not been proven to cause quakes yet...depending on what you read ;) Anything is may cause is so minor its not worth worrying about but what can do is dish out water pollution which we don't need.

fracking is known to have caused minor tremors in a couple of cases, up north somewhere and some time ago ( pre pandemic) , I havent got the time to go looking for it just to satisfy one negative post.
no event is not worth worrying about, thats how we learn, some of us any road!

Looks like Antarctica is melting not just due to warm ocean currents, but more so due to volcanic activity under the ice. After this post, I'm going to post concerning the increase in earthquakes and volcanoes occurring on Earth -- especially around the Pacific Ring of Fire. As Elvis would sing, "There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on!"

"Why is Antarctica shaking like crazy? More than 50,000 earthquakes in 3 months baffle scientists"

    https://strangesounds.org/2020/12/antarctica-earthquake-increase-new-volcano-forming.html

"Many weird phenomena are currently taking place in Antarctica.

"While enigmatic deep space signals are hitting the surface of the continent, more than 50,000 tremors have rocked Antarctica since the end of August. Such an impressive spike in seismic activity has never been witnessed by scientists.

"A major M6.0 as well as thousands of other small quakes were all detected in the Bransfield Strait, a 60-mile wide (96-km) ocean channel between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

"Could it be linked to a volcano forming underwater? As seen in the second map, the Bransfield Strait contains volcanoes and volcanic areas. Just remember that the formation of a new volcano near Mayotte was responsible for a strong earthquake swarm.

"Moreover, it is known that many volcanoes are buried under thousand meters of ice in Antarctica and may be one of the reason responsible for the dramatic ice melting on the white continent.

“'Our study provides clear evidence that retreat is happening across the ice sheet due to ocean melting at its base, and not just at the few spots that have been mapped before now,' lead researcher Hannes Konrad said. 'This retreat has had a huge impact on inland glaciers, because releasing them from the sea bed removes friction, causing them to speed up and contribute to global sea level rise.'

"A few days after this discovery, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), had revealed a new Antarctic heat map showing sub-ice hotspots across the icy continent and thus representing the ‘geothermal heat flux’ at the base of the Antarctic Ice Sheet.

"Ocean melting surely plays a role in this epic ice melting phenomenon, but this source of heat is not as hot and dramatic as the heat released by those hot spots and volcanoes situated under the thick ice mantle of Antarctica. [Nature]"
