Earthquake drill

Yesterday Metro Manila had an earthquake drill. The activity called Shake Drill was conducted by the Metro Manila Admin that came complete with actors who would play victims, rescuers and looters. It is a simulation like the real thing to prepare the public, particularly the students, when the big one strikes. There was a script to be followed that some scenes are played out and the reaction of the almost 1 million participants are excellent.

The Shake Drill is in preparation for the potential earthquake that can occur in the West Valley Fault which lies in the eastern part of Metro Manila, right in Marikina City. And although there is no way to predict when the earthquake will strike, at least the public is already prepared mentally.

 

Also called Great ShakeOut, Earthquake Drills offer an annual opportunity for people in homes, schools, and organizations to practice what to do during earthquakes. For example, more than 10.5 million Californians participated in the 2015 Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill and practiced how to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On." In 2014, the ShakeOut had over 10.44 million California participants, and over 26.1 million people participated globally. Each year's drill creates new record numbers, and the registration numbers are expected to continue to grow for 2016.

You may only have seconds to protect yourself during an earthquake, before strong shaking knocks you down – or drops something on you-. Practicing in a drill helps you be ready to react.
