The problem with this plan of storing water is when the community water stops flowing or in the case of someone having their own well " and the electricity is a thing of the past " . it will be only a matter of time before those tanks of back up water is depleted . But I suppose someone that is only preparing short term that might be all they want or the best they can do . --- My group have a similar set up with a twist . We have a solar run system to pump up water from below a hill from a spring and into holding tanks and then is plumbed to gravity feed water into one of our houses . The rest of our group will have to haul the water from the holding tanks to the rest of the houses . -- We originally had a ram pump to pump the water from the spring but it turned out to require a lot of maintenance .

I'm with Poltiregist on this one. Water storage is a short term solution for short term emergencies.
We had another well drilled at the beginning of December. We already had a dug well but found that it was unreliable in the hot dry summers of recent years. Both are set up for the generator to run the well pumps. I also have hand pumps for both. And a smaller back up pump that can run off the solar system that is not installed.
I also have IBC tanks for storage due to their size and maneuverability. As well as reliance water containers in abundance.
There is also surface water close that we can haul in but this is not an ideal solution.
Water is basically life, even if that sounds massively cliche. And to me storing even 1000 litres is just completely insufficient.

thats the problem with people with short term plans, they cant see the longer picture, water storage and food stockpiles post SHTF are only temporary fixes and are time limited.
without plans for after these stores are gone they are only delaying their inevitable demise.

No space for that, my garden is a good size but the last thing I want is to loose ground space or make it obvious I'm storing water. Early days yet but I'll be looking at burying a tank or two, pros and cons sort of thing.

    1. Ystranc
Ok, I understand. We keep the IBCs on the ground floor of an old carriagehouse with pallet racking above them. They're mainly in case of a short term event that would effect water quality.
We do a lot of rainwater capture, have river water easily available with an excellent opportunity to install a ram pump and use another IBC as a reservoir (unfortunately only after a major event)

Read what people write, I looked at houses to buy now for my RETIREMENT is that clear? Buy it now, remodel at leisure over a period of time for when I hit my med fifties...I don't want to have to work after that. To keep you updated, I'm still looking now a lot and all online, won't be going out there again until covid is better sorted, and for your information I don't 'do' fantasy, I live in the real world mate.

Happy 2021, at your age you'll have the jab soon and be able to get out and about, clear your head a bit.

Within five years, all retirement funds will be wiped-out. Or, you could have billions upon billions-worth of pretend currency ... with which you will NOT be able to purchase jack sh##.

To believe otherwise makes a boy a source of amusement for adult preppers.

    TMT Tactical...

Oh....I wouldn't concern myself with that too much.

I give lonewolf credit for having thicker skin than that...probably thick skin is needed to live out in the country where lonewolf does.

And we too....I think we are going to need thick skin with what is coming....from the Ishmaelites.

    But your point is noted...thanks.

    Olde Geezer,

I have been thinking this for some time now and I am aware of what has happened to retirement funds in many Central and South American countries whenin their economies collapsed...

This is a great concern of mine!!!

This information is kept from the knowledge of most Americans and out of the MSM.

What pathetic retirement funds I've put back (company matches what you put in), I've moved the funds to real-estate-backed. The current real estate bubble in the former-USA is going to not just pop, it's gonna go right down the shi##er. But real estate is something, know what I mean. Somethingness is better than nothingness. I mean like for 30+ years, I've been telling the guys to buy real estate. They do not call it "real" estate for nothing; dirt is dirt, a building is a building. I can't grow taters on stock market paper. If you have a deed and a shotgun, you have a piece of land. Shotgun and plow, you got food. Digits = pretend.

The Democratic Party has borrowed against union retirement funds for so many decades that these funds are now gone gone gone.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/tedknu...fits-cut-90-pbgc-chief-warns/?sh=75e78b2e769c

Here is but one example within hundreds and hundreds of insolvent pension funds. These funds were raided and NOBODY is going to talk about it.

    https://www.crainsdetroit.com/finance/union-pension-fund-slash-benefits-avoid-insolvency

The banking oligarchs can also raid your retirement accounts.

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/how-d...te-funds-during-a-banking-crisis_3097779.html

If a person cannot stand on the property they own or if they cannot hold it in their hands, the existence of "wealth" is only a theory. If you and your neighbors are armed, then what you own is more likely going to stay in your possession. Within the human species, might makes right.

Worthless money which includes any retirement is one of several reasons living self-sufficient is my goal . We have worked hard to establish a survival retreat that gives us an opportunity to live without outside human assistance .

If one has friends who have, in actuality, submitted to God's Will and have lived in the realm of sacred humility, then one is indeed wealthy beyond measure. The meaning of the word "gold" is, in truth, a gathering of souls humble before their Creator. This accumulation, when enveloped in a state of Prayer, is a force, while unseen and may not yet have come to its fruition, of unknowable intensity. All obstacles are meaningless before the beloved of God. Though we live in the valley of the shadow of death, this condition is a thing ephemeral. Not just in the worlds of God to come, but even in this plane of hideous inertia, mighty victories are possible.

I trust you to apply those rules equally across the board Lonewolf. I have noticed that the rudeness has been far from one sided.
Just because a member disagrees with another person or their priorities there is no need for acrimony. My personal philosophy of prepping and survivalism is completely at odds with many people on this forum but I believe it is equally valid...and yet I can still learn from some of them, just as I can learn from any disparate group...it's why I'm here.
I have noticed a tendency for some members to jump down the throat of any person they disagree with and attack them personally. This predates MaxRigger joining this forum...childish bickering is nothing new here, it's always gone on here and is one of the least attractive attributes of this forum.
Maybe we should all take a second to think before venting our anger online because it doesn't look good to outsiders on what is essentially a public forum.

There are degrees of bickering though. And degrees of rudeness vs debate. I have disagreed with almost all the main members on here at one point or another. From Old Geezer to Lonewolf and pretty much every one else lol. We had a debate. A discussion. There have only ever been 2 people who have been out right rude, sarcastic and unwilling to discuss or consider a point.
I always wonder, if they have all the answers already why are they here insulting the rest of us? Boredom maybe?
After months of insults and watching people I like being insulted, where are we? Still dealing with the same nonsense as in the beginning.
I wonder how many people like me hardly ever post any more, so as to avoid being called an idiot? I avoid it because if I reply in defense then I am the one risking a ban.

I don't just mean this current round of disagreements Rebecca. Occasionally two members seem to have a spat and it all blows out of proportion and gets vicious.
It's happened a great many times over the last few years that I've been visiting this forum and it just looks bad. I'd much rather read about an exchange of technological information, trapping or hunting techniques than some angry dude calling another member names, ill wishing an early death on them or correcting someone's grammar...it just sucks.
I would be grateful if members like you would contribute more posts and originate more threads, I have a feeling that they would be well written and interesting.

The bickering is disheartening, and our community is becoming polarized like much of society. I guess it isn’t surprising given the current state of world affairs that this has spilled over impacting our community here. It’s a shame as members here have so much to offer as we get ready to face what we all know is coming. I certainly need to keep myself in check. As an imperfect human, I have also had moments that I have made comments that I shouldn’t have. It’s unfortunate this is happening when so much is a stake when our community should be joining together. There is more than enough evil on this earth that we don’t need to be fighting each other. Perhaps this is exactly what the evil forces want us to do.

we have a good community here and in general it works well, differences in opinion will occur from time to time but this is a discussion forum at the end of the day.
however I draw the line at one member calling another an idiot because of his politics or some other personal belief which is where I have to put my moderator hat on.

Thank you LW, a bit tougher moderation would not go amiss and there are plenty of members who are capable of contributing a great deal of really interesting information who might feel able to contribute more if they know their thread isn't going to be hijacked and turned into an argument.

If you don't want to read a persons posts when they start ranting or getting abusive you can simply hit the ignore button. I have ignored quite a few people on this forum over the years. Usually they move on when they get bored, occasionally they learn to fit in.
In order to have debate we need a degree of dissent but without the personal attacks

if a member wants to make a personal comment use the PM facility, otherwise public posts should be general not personal in nature.
also if you must call a member by name please refer to them by the user name under their avatar not their real name.
in future all posts that do not comply with the rules will be deleted.

May I enquire how Max got ahold of your name Lonewolf?
I can understand yourself or TMT as staff/moderators having access to members details like names or emails, but I thought to normal members that information was restricted. If there is a way just anyone can see personal details, well, that's a problem.

I think Lonewolf made a reference to another site, were his avatar, did use part of his name. A minor OPSEC slip. Even as a Moderator, I do not have access to private information. Only the ADMIN, can access that info. Lonewolf is dedicated to maintaining security and has never offered to grant this Moderator access to members info, which I really appreciate. I don't have any concerns that a regular member can access member info. Nothing is beyond the reach of motivated government agencies.
