Hello, I am French and I am preparing for difficult days here in Europe. There are many things in the United States that interest me. I have a maritime training, I was present in the 90s in Africa (Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire ...) I was also in the Caribbean for 6 years. I made a few visits to Southeast Asia. I hope to share to the maximum.

Welcome to the forum! I look forward to your posts!

What area of France do you live? My wife and I lived in near Mons, Belgium for a few years just a few miles away from France. Almost every weekend we explored towns along the two northern regions from Alsace to Calais. We loved all the little towns the most.

Well, one thing you have going for you is that there is much arable land in France.

The wifer and I have two small gardens. We got over 300 tomatoes and over 200 zucchini out of there. We did little work in the garden this year due to my having to have orthopedic surgeries. I tilled my garden not long after having one of my arms put back on. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. Fertilizer, like composted horse crap, plus added loaminess will get you far. For loam one can use peat moss, sand, ... My wife worked and worked and worked on canning / drying all of this.

    Here's an article on loam

If you go intense gardening, then you do NOT need lots and lots of land. Put back canned meats. Humans get by on small amounts of meat thrown in with the bulk vegetables. Get water filtration, as expensive as you can afford, like Katadyn brand, plus charcoal filters (water taste improvement). Get a couple of pellet rifles .177 and .22 that are very accurate, plus buy many tins of the pellet brands you find to be most accurate in each rifle. Small game supplements veggie meals. Humans definitely need some meat, however it is less than you would think -- our bodies can't make all amino acids and Vit. B12.

France also has access to all manner of fishing, fresh water and ocean. Canned herring keeps for more than a year and quite frankly, I love tinned herring. Canned salt pork keeps for years.

We got mounds of Thai and Cayenne peppers. Grew peppers in both veggie garden AND flower garden (front of house; deep RED peppers are beautiful).

Welcome to here! What in particular interests you most about the USA? Maybe I can help "fill in the blanks" or at least point you in a good direction.

    Looking forward to your posts!

    Bonjour Automomie 33,

    Welcome to the forum.

Interesting regarding your mentioned maritime training.

A couple of us here have been to Southeast Asia. I've been to the original Michelin rubber plantation in Vietnam.

This forum should prove of value for your preparations ...... although, in my opinion, the best place to discuss preparedness is at St. Martin Island - both good food with cognac and the beer in brown and green bottles from the Dutch neighbors.

    Again, welcome to the forum.

    Transmitting from eastern Virginia.
