On the subject of darkness, here's a barbecue story. "Hey you, aren't you a bit overdone!":eek::eek:

Brought to you by the news website: upload_2022-6-17_20-8-23.png Ironic? Yes, I think so.

"Video: Dim-witted gas thief pays for his misdeed, catches fire after drilling hole in truck's tank"

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/gas-thief-catches-fire-video

"A would-be gas thief paid dearly for his misdeed over the weekend, catching fire as he drilled a hole in a truck's gas tank at a Salt Lake City business.

"It all was caught on surveillance video in broad daylight Saturday morning, KSL-TV reported — fittingly at Summit Fire & Security."

"Thieves caught on camera drilling into gas tanks"

    https
    ://ksltv.com/496132/thieves-caught-on-camera-drilling-into-gas-tanks/

"SALT LAKE CITY — As gasoline prices soar, some thieves have resorted to stealing gas in a very dangerous way. One Salt Lake City business has been victimized multiple times. The business manager is fed up, and the thief has scars for his trouble.

"A truck parked outside Summit Fire and Protection had already had its catalytic converter stolen and the gasoline siphoned out when another thief showed up Saturday, in broad daylight, and tried to steal the gas. But he paid a price for the costly crime he committed.

“'Some people try to take the easy way out of everything,' said Branch Manager Travis Mills, showing surveillance video of the theft in progress.

"Not long after 10 a.m., Mills was notified about a gas theft from one of the trucks that also caught fire.

“'The guy tried to siphon gas out of it and he wasn’t getting the siphon to work,' Mills said. 'So he decided to drill the gas tank, and that’s when he caught on fire.'”

"The company has had multiple catalytic converter thefts and smash and grab thefts in recent years.

"They put in a $30,000 security system before this happened.

    “'It’s been expensive,' Mills said.

“'Unfortunately, given the gas prices in the valley and nationwide, we are seeing an increase in gas theft,' said Division Chief Tony Allred, Salt Lake City Fire Marshal.

"The vehicle is out of commission until it can be repaired, which is very costly — if they can even find a replacement.

“'We’re finding that gas tanks are hard to come by,' Mills said.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

My gosh, where did this happen?

    Summit Fire and Security

Wait a minute! That fire protection truck didn't do its job!

"Biden Given ‘Cheat Sheet’ That Instructs Him How to Say 'Hello' And Sit Down"

    https://summit.news/2022/06/24/bide...-instructs-him-how-to-say-hello-and-sit-down/

"Joe Biden was photographed holding a 'cheat sheet' given to him by his advisers instructing him on how to enter a room, say 'hello,' sit down, talk to other people and then depart.

    "Yes, really.

“'YOU enter the Roosevelt Room and say hello to participants,' states the bullet point list before going on to tell Biden, 'YOU take YOUR seat.'

“'Press enters,' the cheat sheet continues. 'YOU give brief comments (2 minutes). Press departs (t). YOU ask Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO, a question. Note: Liz is joining virtually. YOU thank participants. YOU depart.'

"Why on earth does the leader of a free world require an instruction manual on how to behave like a normal human? This is like something you would give to an autistic child doing a high school presentation.

"As we have exhaustively highlighted, Biden’s mental frailties, which routinely manifest themselves in the form of verbal gaffes and confused, befuddled behavior, are of real concern to Democrats given that Biden will be 82 years old by the time he begins a second term."

"Not Enough Chicken Leads to Gunfire at Anniversary Party"

    https://www.amren.com/news/2022/06/not-enough-chicken-leads-to-gunfire-at-anniversary-party/

"Police say a man tried to kill his brother-in-law during an argument at a couple’s anniversary party in South Memphis.

"Police say Deandre Dandridge and Tiara Munn were celebrating their fifth anniversary April 8, and had invited several family members to a party

"That’s when police say Munn’s mother got into a heated argument over 'guests getting too many pieces of chicken'

"Jonathan Rogers got involved in the argument

"Police said Rogers’ mother, Stephanie Morgan, ordered him to get his guns.

"Rogers pulled out two guns and shot Dandridge at least six times."

What's not funny is that the communists want to restrict the rights of civilized people in some futile attempt to keep their 3rd-world voters from killing each other.

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...n-crimewave-on-weather-cost-of-living-crisis/

"Rather than taking responsibility himself, London mayor Sadiq Khan has tried to blame the crime wave ravaging the British capital on the cost of living crisis, after previously blaming the weather.

"Speaking on Friday, the Labour Party’s Sadiq Khan said: 'Before the summer holidays began, the police, myself and others were warning about what we’ve seen in previous summers – we have seen an increase in violent crime and the cost of living crisis exacerbates this,' he said.

“'Why? Because one of the complex causes of crime is deprivation, poverty, lack of opportunities, and so forth.

“'That’s made worse by the cost of living crisis, and I’m afraid it’s no consolation to me, the police or all those bereaved families to see happening this summer what we feared, which is what we’ve seen in the last week.'

"The day prior, Khan, who is also London’s police and crime commissioner, pointed to the hot summer weather as a contributor to the crime wave, claiming that 'longer daylight hours, school holidays, a heatwave and so forth' can drive up crime.

"It is not only the public that has lost confidence in Khan to tackle crime, with the Metropolitan Police Federation openly declaring in February that the organisation, which represents over 31,000 Met officers, has 'no faith' in his leadership on policing.

"Brexit leader Nigel Farage said: 'If the mayor of London thinks a murder wave can be put down to bad weather, well I’m really sorry Khan, get a grip, work with the police. Let’s get tough, otherwise, London is not going to be a safe city for anybody.'”

Ancient wisdom: "Whoever protects you, owns you."

Most people who love Liberty are not willing to bend over for would-be gods. That's why Liberty loving American colonists 240 years ago shot British officers off their horses and why today's Liberty lovers loathe the European Borg.

Either you are a man or you still have Mommy's apron strings tied around you. One or the other, no compromise.

Is one an individual or is one a member of the herd. One or the other, no compromise.

" Twenty is too young to drink a beer, but eighteen is old enough to vote. "

I remember when that was changed. 18 was old enough to be drafted and shipped off to fight and die for the freedom of people that wouldn't fight for themselves but you weren't old enough or good enough to vote. I had family that never got to vote because they died before they were old enough to do that...drafted and sent to fight for a people that didn't want freedom if THEY had to fight for it.

These people don't have to drink to lose control of their emotions.

The frontal lobes of the brain deal with emotional control (hard-wiring and all of that). Some genetic lines have frontal lobe brain cell counts that are very significantly lower than Caucasians and Asians.

Farage is right but he's also wrong, its not London will not be a safe city, its London ISNT a safe city.
The mayor of London is an idiot and blames everyone but himself, he should have been removed years ago, all he cares about are photo opportunities.

"Flooded Electric Vehicles Spontaneously Catch On Fire In Florida After Hurricane"

    https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/w...ntaneously-catch-fire-florida-after-hurricane

"'There's a ton of EVs disabled from Ian. As those batteries corrode, fires start,' according to Jimmy Patronis, Florida's top financial officer and fire marshal.

"Patronis tweeted Thursday that after Hurricane Ian made landfall last week and flooded regions of his state, a bunch of electric vehicles (EVs) were caught in floods, batteries were waterlogged, and some spontaneously caught on fire.

"He said, 'that's a new challenge that our firefighters haven't faced before. At least on this kind of scale.'

"'It takes special training and understanding of EVs to ensure these fires are put out quickly and safely,' he continued in another tweet. 'Thanks to [North Collier Fire Rescue] for their hard work.'

"There was no word on how many EVs were disabled or caught on fire due to the widespread flooding last week. But what is becoming apparent is that fire departments in the state are unequipped to handle lithium battery fires.

"Under the Biden administration's push to electrify road vehicles to allegedly save the planet from man-made carbon emissions, greenies fail to acknowledge the environmental costs of EV mishaps and fires that are associated with it."
    ------------------------------------

    https://primenewsprint.com/politics...ge-tesla-fireball-unable-to-exit-his-vehicle/

"Lithium fires are really, really, really scary, and first responders need to be specially trained to put them out. Because if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can make a lithium fire 1000X worse.

"Traditional fire extinguishers, such as foam and water, don’t work on lithium battery fires. The only way to extinguish a lithium battery fire is to flood the battery with water. A Lithium Fire Blanket will safely isolate a lithium fire battery for hours until it can be flooded and extinguished. Of course, then a new problem arises….the water used to flood the battery will become severely polluted, which makes it vital to carefully select where you will place the burning device. If possible, place the battery in a container with water, rather than a river, pond, or nearby anybody to avoid a threat to people and the environment.

"Lithium fires burn significantly hotter and they can throw a 2,000-degree flame out like a torch.

"Biden wants to add these new electric cars to the mix, so do we have a process nationwide for this?

    "No? Okay, great…"

If an event happened which caused masses of people to leave the city then the old adage of 'three weeks without food and three days without water' may well come into play with a high percentages of the deaths coming from dehydration or a combo of dehydration and drinking unsafe water.

Water, a lack of or unfit to drink would be a major factor in population reduction IMO. The UK is a green island, plenty of rivers, lakes and streams but comes summer the mountains and moorlands can and do run dry, even many lowland streams run dry or run very low.

wrong thread but I'll reply anyway.
agreed, remember also that any water should in these circumstances be viewed as suspicious and treated accordingly, cattle in the streams, farm chemical and slurry run off, dead sheep upstream etc.etc.

Wrong thread, but here in the States, giardia cysts are found even in "pure" mountain streams. Boiling water for 10 minutes is thus required. Water filters will also catch them.

Only where water shoots out the sides of mountain rock faces can one drink directly. Those places are where my kin build their cabins in the mountains.

Post SHTF, hundreds of thousands of people will turn into predators. During times of war, people use furniture for campfires. Most people, especially those from arid nations, know that water must be boiled. The stupid will die, leaving the most efficient predators. People from arid climates consider the worst places in temperate regions to be very fertile compared to what poor land they had to struggle with to grow food. Those people see Westerners as weak, decadent, and worthy of being conquered.

I dont see many modern people, especially in Britain, as any more than victims in a post SHTF environment, even most of the migrants will have had enough of looting and scavenging and have settled down into their various communities, the ones that predate on the weak will be the usual fit young men that we see coming across the channel in the flimsy rubber boats.

No need to boil water for ten minutes, your just wasting fuel, the water is clean before that.

At altitudes below around 4000' temp over 65/70c 150f does the job, to be on the safe side we were taught to bring to a full rolling boil and job done, no five or ten minutes boils.

If your using water filters that are a few years old it may be worth looking at newer ones with a lower micron level filter, lot of them today filter down to 0.01 micron. I've got a few filters, my two favorites for mountain walking and general hiking camping is the Sawyer mini and the newer ENONEO which you can pick up for about £20.

Back on track, a bit of humour

Cysts are killed in 10 minutes at a water temperature of 54/ c. 145f but as I said just bring to a boil to be absolutely safe then turn the heat off.

Store in a clean sealed container with a couple of drops of bleach per gallon and it will store for a couple of years without refrigeration

Socialist states have rules on top of rules. Everyone must be in lock-step, plus worship Gaia.

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...mers-fined-300-euros-after-cow-moos-too-loud/

"The local council of the Spanish municipality of Siero has handed out several 300 euro fines to local farmers because one of their cows mooed above the allowed decibel limit.

"The 300 euro (£261/$293) fine was handed down to local farmers in the municipality after a neighbour complained that one of the cows kept by the farmers was mooing too loudly.

"The police of the town, meanwhile, measured the mooing of the cow and found it to be 74 decibels, far above the maximum limit of 55 decibels allowed by the local government’s noise laws.

"Similar stories of odd noise complaints by people unwilling to put up with the normal pattern of life in the countryside have been seen in recent years, including a small town outside of Madrid that considered fining a local church around 16,000 euros in 2016 because the church’s bells were deemed to be too noisy.

"The bells of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Mostoles were found to be around 30 decibels above the 55-decibel limit, the same limit as in Siero.

"The decision by the Siena local government is also just the latest bizarre government decision regarding cows and comes as New Zealand’s leftist Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her government proposed taxing cow burps and urination to fight against climate change earlier this month."

Man-oh-man is this ever not funny. Sad, really. But this is what is happening in the new USSA. Gang activity is beginning to make urban living a high-risk adventure. Now is even showing up in suburban and in tiny-town rural areas. Urban areas are getting to be outright unlivable due to carjackings and burglaries.

This story should go under heading of "Dark Irony":

"6 shot at funeral for shooting victim in Pittsburgh"

    https://www.oann.com/newsroom/6-shot-at-funeral-for-shooting-victim-in-pittsburgh/

"Six people were injured in a shooting at a funeral in Pennsylvania.

"Local police responded to reports of a shooting at the Destiny of Faith Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Friday. Five victims were taken to an area hospital and the sixth victim, a minor, was taken to a local children’s hospital.

"Authorities say the shooting occurred outside the funeral for 20-year-old John Hornezes Jr., who was shot and killed alongside two women at a bus stop earlier this month."

The sad truth these days is that the laws and the police protect the criminals from the citizens more than the other way around. A criminal doesn't care if it is agaist the law to carry a gun.

I have a liscene to carry a concieled weapon. Now they let anyone in Texas do it but before that I did the classes and have an ID and liscense.

In the inner cities nowadays, swarms of looters just run into stores and steal expensive items. What to call them? "Good-times looters?" Now that cities have basically given-up on prosecuting non-violent crime, those with low impulse control and little to zero morality grab things they want and run away. Needless to say, civilized people no longer want to go to downtown areas in major cities. Many chain stores are shutting their doors in these cities. Looks like urban America is disintegrating as did Detroit years ago.

In the following incident, at least one male is among several females grabbing items out of a department store. This particular male fails the exit component of the thievery.

Here are videos of flash mob robberies to illustrate this ongoing phenomenon here in Amerikan urban areas. I set the YouTube filter to the past year. This has been going on longer than a year, for sure. Nobody stands up to these mobs lest they get beaten into a hospital intensive care unit or killed.

shop workers do not stop shop lifters and in any case the shop has insurance.
Police here do not attend shop lifting , under the 2014 Policing bill if the amount is under £200.

In Amerikan urban areas, shop workers do not try to stop thieves. Different story here in the South.

I will say this, in certain neighborhoods within New York City, thieves do get put into the hospital by store clerks. NY, NY has its tough streets. In Providence Rhode Island, things were very nice when we were there on business. The local la Cosa Nostra kept things clean and civilized. In Toronto we experienced the same. There it was the Russian Mafia.

In one Southern medical school where I worked, some guy came into the first floor of a research area and stole a computer. As he ran outside, a research assistant chased and caught the thief, then gave him a good beat-down.

Many Southerners simply enjoy fighting ... to include a goodly number of women. Southern women sure will shoot you -- that's not up for debate. Thus the politeness. People are nice and considerate. There are a lot of rules in the South. This keeps things in balance. People who do not fit-in are ejected ... or worse. One uncle of mine went out and night, linked up with Sheriff's deputies and "took out the trash".

Life is good when people abide by the rules. The rules are not difficult to follow. Mind your own business and things go a lot more smoothly.

    https://www.breitbart.com/crime/202...-carjacking-victim-get-court-stolen-car-case/

"Edward Flemming, 22, was arrested in January 2020 after he sole a Ford Fusion while wearing a ski mask, but he was released on his own recognizance, CWB Chicago reported.

"The following month, Flemming, along with a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, threatened a 22-year-old male with the intention of stealing the victim’s car so that Flemming could arrive at his court appearance at 9:00 a.m. on February 25, 2020.

"The 22-year-old victim had intended to meet a woman he connected with online on the 300 block of West 120th Street, but once he arrived at their meeting place around 8:00 a.m., two men were waiting for him and proceeded to rob him, according to CBS Chicago.

"Flemming pointed a gun at the victim while the 17-year-old assaulted him in the face before the three offenders took off with the victim’s phone, keys, and vehicle."

It is about attitude. "If we want it, we will take it."

It is about getting even with white people, Asians, and in Crown Heights New York, beating-up Jewish people. The media is constantly blaring the oppression story and the courts system is releasing the violent, so why not just do anything that feels good. "Whites and Asians are weak, so we'll take what they have."

"New York City's vegan mayor issues decree requiring city to eat less meat as a means of combating the specter of climate change"

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/new-y...bat-the-specter-of-climate-change#toggle-gdpr

    Begin quote

New York City's Democratic mayor reportedly went vegan in 2016 after temporarily losing his eyesight to Type 2 diabetes. With his restored vision, Eric Adams has focused on another reason to avoid meat: the specter of anthropogenic climate change.

However, this time around, Adams wants New Yorkers to suffer a vegetarian diet along with him.

Adams said in a statement Monday, "What we put on our plate doesn't just affect us. We now know food is the third largest source of emissions in New York City, so what we eat is impacting our entire planet. That's why today I'm announcing that by 2030, the City will reduce our food-related emissions by 33%."

The following agencies will be impacted by this decree: the New York City Department of Education, the Department of Homeless Services, the Department for the Aging, the Department of Correction, the Human Resources Administration, Health and Hospitals, and the Administration for Children's Services.

Accordingly, schoolchildren, prisoners, hospital patients, and elderly dependents will be precluded from putting their canine teeth to work on protein and mineral-rich meats, at least on certain days.

Although scientists have long held that meat is a vital part of child's diet, New York City K-8 school children will instead have to throw back chickpeas on Mondays. While dairy is linked to the greatest emissions on the menu, they'll enjoy mozzarella sticks rather than meat on Wednesday. On Friday, April 21, they'll have to choke back potato gumbo or once again become complicit in dairy and grain emissions by snacking on grilled cheese sandwiches. After being spoiled with country chicken on April 27, students' palates will be mocked with a BBQ veggie burger and more dairy products the following day.

The Democratic mayor also challenged private sector partners to cut their food emissions by 25%, prompting them to take part in the so-called "Plant Powered Carbon Challenge," in hopes of satisfying Paris climate agreement goals.

In his announcement, Adams claimed, "We have two mothers: One gave birth to us, the other sustains us, and we have been destroying the one that sustains us based on the food that we have been consuming."

Adams' clampdown on meat consumption may ultimately mean real mothers will get less protein and figurative mothers will be spared the lesser of several emitters among the food groups on offer in New York City facilities.

"Electric vehicles may be too heavy for old parking garages: report"

    https://www.foxnews.com/auto/electric-vehicles-heavy-parking-garages-report

    Begin quote

The collapse of a parking garage in New York City on Tuesday that killed at least one person has put a new spotlight on aging structures used for vehicle storage.

The five-level building, which has several active violations listed with the city, dates back to 1925 and was first licensed as a garage in 1957 for five vehicles per floor, WNBC reported.

Images from the scene indicate that least a dozen SUVs were parked on just the top floor.

The incident occurred after a recent study raised concerns that many older parking garages may need to be re-evaluated due to the increasing average weight of vehicles, particularly electric models.

The report from the British Parking Association noted that some electric cars weigh more than double what popular models in the same segments did in the 1960s, due in part to their heavy battery packs. This also often applies to contemporary cars.

For instance, a Tesla Model S weighs over a thousand pounds more than a gas-powered Mercedes E-Class, while a 9,000-pound GMC Hummer EV is 2,400 pounds heavier than the similarly-sized Hummer H2 that was last sold in 2009.

"I don’t want to be too alarmist, but there definitely is the potential for some of the early car parks in poor condition to collapse," car park consultant and structural engineer Chris Whapples told The Telegraph.

"We have height restrictions in car parks, why not weight?" he asked.

Old Gzr: So there's all these left-wing voters in NY, NY; why are they commuting using SUVs:confused::rolleyes:?! I'm a conservative, but I bought us a fuel-saver 4-cyl Mazda -- it looks sporty and it will go fast, but when commuting, it gets near 40 mi/gal. If I kept my foot off the firewall it would get even more mileage.

Our 2002 Mazda still runs (reason why we bought a second one), gave it to a son who drives it -- if something works, it works. We have an old Ford SUV, but that's for bad weather and I've hauled garden supplies and lumber in it (the seats fold down to create cargo space). We don't drive the SUV long distance. If I'm on an 800 mile road trip, I'm taking the little rice-rocket, one tank of fuel will get me well past 500 road miles (especially were I to drive the speed limit, ... but I'm a lead-foot ... >80 mph; got caught once doing 85 / 135 khr, cop cut me slack; I've had that sporty little thing up to 110 mph / 175 kph).

Big city and suburbanite folk should ALL be using smaller engine cars -- they get great gas mileage and hey, they can be fun to drive. You can't zoom an SUV on the improperly banked roads we have, because they will flip and kill you. I see city people driving big 4x4 extended cab pickup trucks -- no dents, no rust, they keep them clean like cars. What's that about????!!!!!o_O:mad::mad::mad::mad: Farmers don't buy those things unless they have to tow horse trailers. A pickup that is being used for what it was intended gets beaten up; duh! Urbanites and most suburbanites can get by with the tiny trucks. City folk are beyond annoying -- zero common sense ... and arrogant hypocrites on top of it all.

Sorry about the rant :(. My tolerance for idiots is very low. People who engage in wastefulness, I hate even more. They've never been poor. Soon, they are going to get a bellyful of want and they'll not know how to handle it.

"'A very evil prank': Florida homeowners' awakened as front doors kicked in by masked strangers"

    https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/several-deltona-homeowners-targeted-by-dangerous-prank

DELTONA, Fla. - Several homeowners in Deltona, Florida say they were targeted by what appears to be a group of teenagers carrying out a dangerous prank.

"My wife was having a panic attack at the time because she was just so absolutely distraught," Jeffrey Gibson said.

Just after midnight Tuesday, his Ring doorbell camera captured a teen kicking in his door three times while someone nearby appears to be recording him.

"Until I saw the video, I didn't even realize that it seemed to be some youths playing what appeared to be a very evil prank," Gibson said.

In the video, the group can be seen running away after kicking the door and jumping into a nearby getaway car near Treehaven Drive.

"Had they still been there when I opened the front door, I don't know that there would have been an element of control from myself or what they would have done," Gibson said.

About an hour and a half earlier, another homeowner two miles away, who did not want to go on camera, says her door was also kicked in. Her husband was so concerned he grabbed a gun and ran to the front door.

It serves as a reminder of why what may seem like an innocent prank to some could have a serious outcome.

    End quote

    ------------------

"... could have a serious outcome."

Yes. Actually, well beyond just "serious".

Maybe they'll survive in liberal areas or up in Canada (videos below); however, there are vast expanses of Heartland America where this prank could be the last prank, the last action, the last breath of the prankster. In America's South, start kicking a door and the owner will assume that someone is trying to break in. This will result in the kicker "kicking the bucket". The prankster's odds of dying would be much less were he playing Russian roulette.

There is no way for a homeowner to differentiate between some "prank" and an actual break-in. Me, I'll take it as an invasion and act accordingly. A real firearm loaded with real ammunition is on my person at night. I'm not alone. Don't mess with people.

    ------------------

This "prank" may(?) have had its origins in the UK circa 202:

    "Door Kick Challenge"

    https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/door-kick-challenge

"The Door Kick Challenge or the "I Hear Your Heartbeat To The Beat Of The Drums" Challenge refers to a prank trend on TikTok where you film yourself or friends approaching a closed door, often in a dormitory or school housing complex but sometimes other homes and playing the song "Die Young" by Kesha against it then kicking on the door loudly after Kesha sings, 'I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums.' The trend began in early October 2021. Later that month, UK police began investigating the challenge after it was allegedly responsible for damaging a number of doors.

"The trend spread over the course of the month as more TikTokers uploaded videos doing it. For example, on October 13th, 2021, TikToker[2] @4figuress posted a video of many men in masks doing the trend, gaining over 4.4 million views in a month (shown below, left). On October 14th, TikToker[3] @ana_macedoooooooo posted a video doing the trend with a friend but pounding rather lightly, gaining over 500,000 views in a month ... ."

"Electric vehicle fires: Where the waiting game wins"

    https://www.firerescue1.com/electri...where-the-waiting-game-wins-f934UedqIpVqc1k2/

"With the arrival of electric vehicles (EVs) comes many different products to “solve” the problem of extinguishing a fire in an EV’s high-voltage battery.

"While there may be a few benefits to some of these products, overall, most fail to address the problem associated with a thermal runaway event in a large lithium-ion battery.

    "Understanding thermal runaway

"A high-voltage battery is made up of many cells packed tightly together inside a watertight, fire-resistant box. When a single cell fails, it is essentially a small explosive that produces a tremendous amount of gas and heat (1,200 degrees F) in tenths of a second. The failure is an exothermic chemical reaction that does not require oxygen from the atmosphere to sustain itself. The heat released from each individual cell is transferred to the neighboring cells, which causes them to fail as well.

"Once a battery cell fails, it is impossible to extinguish the failed cell as the chemical reaction inside the cell happens far too quickly. The only way to stop a thermal runaway is by directly cooling the cells involved to ensure that the failed cell does not cause the cells around it to also fail."

    ============================

Local fire departments and rural fire departments do not have / cannot afford special equipment to deal with these horrific fires. Thus, they have to dump thousands of gallons of water to attempt to cool the inferno.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Here is one specialty device / method. Everybody and their brother is trying to come up with ways to shut down electric vehicle fires. As one might imagine, this is a HUGE issue with fire departments -- especially since more and more people are buying them.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

"How are electric vehicle fires put out?"

    https://www.keloland.com/keloland-com-original/how-are-electric-vehicle-fires-put-out/

    Begin quote

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A company that manufactures fire engines in Lyons, South Dakota, also produces a device which it bills as the key to extinguishing electric vehicle (EV) fires.

“The smoke is very toxic,” said Ernie Young, Battery Extinguisher System Technology (BEST) Specialist for Rosenbauer America, the manufacturer of the BEST system.

“We can cover them up. We can spray water to keep things cool for extended periods of time, but to actually extinguish the fire, this is the only product on the line,” Young said.

That first method, to “cover them up”, highlights an important fact about EV fires.

“There are fire blankets out there to cover vehicles, and the idea behind that is we’re gonna smother the vehicle and take away the oxygen,” Young said. “With an EV fire, the products of combustion with a lithium ion battery is to emit oxygen and hydrogen.”

Due to this, smothering an EV fire does not work, as the battery creates oxygen to feed the fire as it burns.

Simply allowing the fire to burn itself out has various drawbacks.

As noted, the smoke produced by a burning EV is toxic. “Allowing all that smoke for hours to emit into the atmosphere,” said Young, listing the downside to a burnout. “They apply copious amounts of water while not putting out the fire — these batteries are self-sustaining.”

Cooling an EV fire with water in the traditional way takes time and lots of water. Rosenbauer cites EV manufacturers as recommending as much as 8,000 gallons of water at a minimum over the course of several hours to properly stifle an EV fire.

Young says the BEST device can put out the fire in around 45 minutes, using less than 500 gallons of water.

The device comes in three pieces; the control unit, the head unit and the hose unit.

The machine, slid into place under the car, uses 600 psi of pressurized air to punch a spike with up to 10,000 psi of force through the underside of the battery pack before flooding it with water from the inside. How much water? Young says about eight gallons/minute, which is less volume than a garden hose.

Young says the decreased volume of water needed can be especially important when a car catches fire out on a highway. “There’s no hydrant, so we’re doing water shuttling for hours.”

    [IMG] Jab jab jab

    End quote

Old Geezer: Safety warning, never store the BEST jabber/firefighting device under your seat. I doubt these could go off accidentally, but watch your butt.:eek::eek:

    -----------------

The above "Rosenbauer BEST" product price is $40,895.:eek::eek:o_Oo_Oo_O What volunteer fire department, or small town, fire department can afford that?!!!! In a city, how many devices distributed among what percentage of fire stations can that city afford?!

    https://www.edarley.com/battery-extinguishing-system-technology-best/

    ============================================

Now EV fire blankets are available. Y'gotta be one brave fireman wearing a thermal suit to cover an electric car fire. It would take one BIG blanket to cover a electric bus on fire. Note that the fumes given off by these EV batteries are very toxic -- don't get near one nor down-wind of such a fire.

    https://bridgehill.com/fire-blankets/car/

    upload_2023-8-3_16-37-10.png

Even the fire blankets for EV fires are expensive. How many should a fire department purchase? You're a fire chief, what do you put in the budget you are going to submit to your municipality?! Were I a town manager, I'd charge EV owners the price of the blanket should my fire department have to use one. "Specialty cars" get to pay specialty prices -- that would be my policy.

By the way, don't park an EV car in your home garage. Me, I wouldn't, but then I'd not buy one of these electric Molotov cocktails. There are not that super many fires, yet homey doesn't gamble. That was burned into my brain as a child. "Never gamble what you can't afford to lose!"

We routinely drive over 400 miles one direction (1,100 mile trips are average; 1,770 klicks). Currently EVs require charging every 350 miles or so. My newest used car gets over 40 miles to the gallon (17 klicks/liter of petrol; that, IF I keep my foot off the accelerator). With how I drive and that driving going up and down altitudes 1800 ft to 3500 ft (550 meter to 1060m), back down again, over and over and over ... I get only 34 (14.5 km / liter) miles gallon. If we didn't live in a mountainous region, we'd get Great gas mileage. (The altitudes/elevations mentioned above are valleys and mountain passes -- valley elevations here run over 1,000 ft.-- 305 meters -- and that elevation varies greatly).

Speaking of mountains, sometimes we get dry spells, so forest fires become an issue. I'd not want my electric vehicle to turn the Great Smoky Mountains (National Park) into actual smoke.

Windex and paper towels won't clean-up this spill.

"Free Playstations" ...really? ... maybe ... who knows ...

What happed? Yes. A riot. Lots of mayhem. Perfect example of mob mentality.

You can't make this sh## up.

How to set-off a societal special purpose detonation: Drive through a major urban area and toss out fist-fulls of dollar and five dollar bills. All of a sudden, the place will look like ant hills spilling out to go for jelly spilling from broken jar. OK, maybe that wouldn't do it. Hmmmmmm... Here, this is it, start throwing out popular tennis shoes! That'll do it ... in certain neighborhoods it would ... or free Playstations.

Seems the police have become a joke. The cops could be working on shutting down gang violence; however, being politically correct trumps protecting the populace (who they have disarmed).

"Police Force Backs Down after Arresting Autistic Girl for Saying Officer Looked Like a Lesbian"

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...irl-for-saying-officer-looked-like-a-lesbian/

"A British police force backed down after they arrested an autistic girl over saying that a female officer looked like her lesbian nana'.

"West Yorkshire Police has announced that it will take 'no further action' against a 16-year-old girl with autism in Leeds, who was arrested on suspicion of having committed a “homophobic public order offence” in a home raid in the early hours of Monday for comparing an officer to her lesbian grandmother.

"The police force faced fierce backlash on social media as footage was posted on TikTok by the girl’s mother, showing officers dragging the girl from their home.

"In her post, which has since been deleted, the mother wrote according to The Telegraph: 'This is what police do when dealing with autistic children. My daughter told me the police officer looked like her nana, who is a lesbian.

“ 'The officer took it the wrong way and said it was a homophobic comment [it wasn’t]. The officer then entered my home. My daughter was having panic attacks from being touched by them and they still continued to manhandle her.' ”

To American felons who've done time, the person would be deemed a "tweek", a boy in prison who routinely gets raped or "owned" by a crew for sex.

Soft face + small stature + short hair + any aggressive speech = "teenage boy with attitude"

She'd better have a gun on her!

Maybe not in public, but a teenage boy getting attitude with an older man usually means that the boy is going to get hurt. This was a 100% phenomenon when I was a teenager -- stand up to a fully grown testosterone-soaked man and you'll get stomped. You might even end up in the hospital.

My father could in a fraction of a second morph into a monster, so when I was in some dangerous venue, I was safe around him or others of his cohort (gambling ops). As fate would have it, I ended up on the "correct/right side of the street", i.e. legal work.

Most all of the felons (only legally so; screw stupid laws!) I knew as a kid were great guys; honest, family folk, always willing to help out. One friend of mine's dad (elder in our Church) shot a guy dead, but the guy had pulled a knife on him -- my own grandfather shot a guy for doing the same. Only one (one of many, teeny-tiny fraction) of my father's business associates killed an innocent man. Even as a kid, I knew that puke had no soul, but Dad pulled good money out of the nightspot he ran. We lost big money when he was sentenced to "the big house". Never do business with dangerous people, they may even turn on you. Same is true of those who aren't right in the head. "Unstable" truly means unstable -- no predicting how they'll act. There are stacks and stacks of crazy people out there. Avoid them like the plague!

Looks like the White House puppeteers could at least prop up brain-dead biden for a camera op. on the Hawaiian island of Maui who's towns went up in an inferno. Did they never watch the movie "Weekend at Bernie's"?! The Soviets did a fair job of propping-up brain-dead Brezhnev. Surely the Democrats could continue the ongoing biden farce and fly the biden body to Maui. They could dope him up again, move his mouth, and have him say something comforting to the survivors.

"At least 96 people reported dead after wildfires tore through Maui"

[Old Gzr: Hundreds are missing! People were trapped in their homes, in their cars. As of yesterday, less than 5% of the burned towns had been searched. There are still remnants of fires that must be extinguished. One thousand are still unaccounted for! Some escaped to areas with no cell phone towers and some got dusted off by boats, so they may be OK. However, 1,000 people unaccounted for!!! Burning to death is a hard way to go. One girl jumped into the sea and got behind one of the sea walls; treading water, coming up for air, she avoided the searing radiant heat and exploding cars. ]

"President Biden was sharply criticized on Sunday after telling reporters during a Delaware beach getaway that he had 'no comment' on the rising death toll in Hawaii from severe wildfires.

" 'After a couple hours on the Rehoboth beach, @potus was asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii,' Bloomberg's Justin Sink posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. He said that the president responded with 'no comment' before he went home. Video later confirmed his account, showing as Biden paused briefly before responding and getting into his transportation.

"Critics responded to Sink's post and hammered the president's response, saying it was 'embarrassing'."
