    Good morning all,

At some point, it might be advantageous to minimize large stadium gatherings. Fire and active shooter evacuations won't be successful.

The article omits any mention of terrorism insurance. This omission got my attention. Some insurance requires no public knowledge about the policy.

Above link in Security Magazine has additional hyperlinks that could prove of interest to forum participants in prep for matters beyond stadiums and security.

    Hopefully of value.

This is a great post. The topic is not given the importance it deserves.

I am utterly dumbfounded that there hasn't been an attack on a national sporting event. Such would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy to accomplish. Think terrorist mortar crew. Think about how many soldiers in the Middle East have been trained as mortar crew members! Depending on the size of the smuggled tubes, terrorists could sit back over three klicks away and deliver some serious hell, plus cause a panic from hell.

I'm certain that the NSA is all over this. I wonder if such attacks have already been nipped in the bud. I know that our intel folk have shut down other planned attacks against big sporting events. Terrorist crews surely have contemplated this. Heaven only knows how many sleeper cells they have in Central America, Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Think about putting yourself in the place of the people who have to defend against such attacks! I would feel totally overwhelmed. The weaponry is crude and readily available anywhere on Earth. What with mass movements of people across borders, how would you be able to obtain sufficient intel on even a fraction of that herd?! Think about all of the container ships, each holding thousands of containers, putting into port every day of the year. Too much to deal with and stay even semi-sane.

At large events, emergency crews always have equipment on the scene to deal with chemical attacks. I know some in these crews and they have on the ready the tents, the decontamination showers, hazmat suits, ..., and atropine atropine atropine. You may just think that those are just plain old emergency crews ready for the inevitable heart attacks and hyperthermia cases. Nope, they are cocked and locked for a whole lot more.

OK, You have touched on something that I have long feared. The one saving grace about the Islamic Terrorists is that they don't truly understand Americans and what matters to us. Don't get me wrong in this but as bad as 911 was, it missed the boat and we were lucky. what happened in 911 didn't terrorize Americans. It INFURIATED us.

The terrorists seem to actually believe their propaganda about Americans. They assumed that since we were, in their belief, soulless capitalists that cared more about our wealth than anything that hit us where they did was how to shake us to the core. The truth is that most Americans never go up into big skyscrapers and so it didn't affect us personally.

My fear is that they instead bring their terror home to us. Not even a national sporting event would affect us individually like this. Instead of a national sporting event one of the bastards showed up in small-town America at a highschool football game and just before halftime they ran on the field and started hosing the stands with gunfire!! The people actually shot would be a minor part of the casualties!

There were 19 terrorists involved in the hijacking on 911. imagine if on a Friday Night they had shot up 19 stadiums full of our kids! THAT would have brought it home. As bad as it was to lose the Twin Towers imagine if they took out the Boulder Dam. Lose the water and power and Las Vegas becomes an uninhabitable hell hole.

When the terrorists attacked in Russia they hit schools and theaters. that shows the difference in how they see them from Americans.

Anybody see the Chuck Norris movie "Invasion USA" ? That followed much of TexDamn's post. What countries and terrorists fail to understand, is that we may seem divided, but when attacked, we unite into an awesome, terrible force. The USA will not fall to outside forces, we will fall to our own government's socialist policy.

whilst the attack in Manchester was a bomb, most terrorist attacks in Britain seem to be single individuals or two at most using machete's or large knives, or in the case of the London Bridge attack a motor vehicle, nothing sophisticated about that, all very crude, and the number of victims quite low in number.
I don't think stadium attacks are that easy given the security involved, obviously they do happen but attacking people on the street is far easier.

Really? We already have muslim cops, what if a couple get jobs as security guards at a stadium? Getting weapons into a stadium would be ridiculously easy if you are willing to ignore rules and laws.

Stadium security at a big professional sporting event and the security at a High School Sporting event are totally different things. On a cold night, anyone could just walk in with a gun under their coat. It is the smaller local stadiums that I am more concerned about.

It isn't the bullets that will be the big killer. It will be the panic as the crowds trample each other trying to get down and out.

I hope that the article is true, and the people in charge of those teams/sporting events are doing something about security. Otherwise, the entire article was a series of lame clichés. They pat themselves on the backs, and try to impress the public with what they are doing and how safe it is.

I agree with SOL. I won't say it is easy to get weapons into a sporting event, but IMHO it is much easier than people think. Stadium and city will remain unnamed but I knew a guy who used to go to the stadium on Saturday night; cut the lock off of a chain link fence; put his own lock on the gate; and Sunday morning he went to the game; unlocked his lock and walked in. These are events with security. Think of all the High School and College events that have no security. Look at an event like the one we just had here celebrating winning the Stanley Cup. Literally 10's of thousands of people standing shoulder to shoulder half of them drunk as a monkey. The thought of what a terrorist group could do it frightening.

I'm with Lonewolf. Best to stay away. I will watch on TV.

The fact is sadly that most security is more about legal issues and a "show" of security than actual protection. they HAD a security person at that school in Florida...he ran and hid. They had security in the hotel in Las Vegas while that guy was shooting to people at the concert...he did nothing. while that nut in the Gay bar walked around for an hour killing people the cops sat outside and did NOTHING. The only REAL security is when the Government backs off protecting the criminals and lets people protect themselves. Cheap near minimum wage rent-a-cops are WORSE than useless. Give me my gun and you can keep your useless rent-a-pigs. Arm the teachers that will get training and let people that are licensed have their guns ANYWHERE.

ANY place that will not allow me to carry my legally licensed gun should be legally liable for my protection. If a shooter shows up and I get hurt THEY are as responsible for my injuries as the terrorists.

Let me give you a real life example of “security” ...some years agoI worked in an office in a small strip mall. I took a break and went to the convenience store several doors down. On the way I passed two police officers in uniform having a conversation. We exchanged polite greetings, I walked into the store made my purchase and walked out. They stopped me and asked me if I saw anything out of the ordinary there. I responded with a “no” and asked why. They told me they were responding to an armed robber in progress report in that store. Rather than go themselves they responded by allowing an unarmed civilian to scope it out for them.

I have numerous stories of similar events from personal experience. Not suggesting that all LEOs are like that, just that they are there.

Far below them in training, ability and more are the security “guards” who work stadiums airports and the like. Any security they provide is an illusion. Again I am speaking in general terms, I am sure there are good ones out there but by and large...

I try avoid large events for that reason.

    Good afternoon Innkeeper,

There is a large corpus of gallows-humor on security guards (within parameters of definition of "rent a cop") "working" the malls, bus stops, stadiums and some airports).

Appreciated reading your positive news: the 2 uniformed police officers talked to you. Only ~ 20 years ago, the Washington, D.C. metropolitan police department was giving out waivers so they could hire paroled felons.

    I,too, avoid large events.
