Hello everyone, I'm looking to join a homestead group. I am located in central Ontario and I have grown tired of society. I am reasonably young and in great fitness. I have several years experience in a large range of construction jobs. I would love to meet someone or a group of like minded people.

If you were living where I am I would invite you to join our group Darryl, but if I may make a suggestion. Find & join an 18th century living history group, there is bound to be one in your area somewhere. These groups in my opinion stand the best chance of survival in any shtf situation that can be survived.
    Regards, Keith.

Are you living in the states or Canada? And I'm pretty new with these forums and online group chats, so where would I find an 18th century living history group? Would I just google that and take a swing at what I find?

Mate, I am in Australia. Certainly you could google Ontario Living History groups, you can also contact this group & ask if they know of any groups in your area: http://www.meetup.com/ottawa-re-enactors-group/ I must stress that you will not be looking for groups that are just a military reenactment group, you need to look for civilian or Militia Living History groups that hold activities other than public displays. You are welcome to join our group's forum if you wish & post a request there, I know there are members that live in Canada, this one in Ontario http://eighteenthcenturylivinghistory.freeforums.org/hello-from-ontario-canada-t1346.html you may want to make contact with this chap.
Another group that might be worth contacting is: http://www.imuc.org/ and http://www.qhc-chq.ca/rogers-rangers.php This looks like a good one http://carolynsmith-kizer.com/le_detachement.html
The majority of people interested in survival don't think of these groups, or in fact anything to do with colonial living history. You will need to fit in with a group, & will be expected over time to cloth & equip yourself, but they will give you time, & there will be basic requirements that will not involve a lot of expense. In the right group you will learn all you need to know, & they will be able to give you info on colonial homesteading. Remember, you need to learn how to live off grid. We live off grid, & we lived for over 20 years without any electricity or water on tap. Now we have solar power, but if it were to break down we could still manage.
Anyway, just something for you to consider & think about.
    Regards, Keith.
