You and your family have survived the apocalypse you had your rural retreat in cattle country and you have done just fine thanks! You are husband, wife, a 12yo son, a 14yo daughter and a 10yo neice, that’s all!

There have been few contacts at all and none for the last three months so it is relatively safe!

Your 14yo daughter has got to that stage where she wanders and dreams a lot, you have taught her to shoot and fight but she is a lightweight and has little real chance of defending herself! She has taken to wandering the perimeter and the gardens, she has not taken the Apocalypse well and is mentally suffering!

One afternoon miss I want to be alone is nowhere to be found, the sentry on shift your 12yo son saw nothing! You go into lockdown and you go a looking! At a remote point of the perimeter you find her shoes one with a note in it!

Have taken your daughter we demand all your gold and jewelry and your two cows!

Will swap for daughter noon tomorrow come alone!

You retreat to your retreat!


So think about it, what options do you have that are not just plain stupid?

You have already farked up by letting her get taken, a huge mistake!

Will you follow it up with more mistakes ? or use some smarts!

 

But it has happened in this scenario so what do you do or not do now?

 

Not having kids (passing on your genes) is that not the ultimate in anti survival?

If your gene line is ending with your death what matters when your death is?

 

Well just play along and think it through, what do you do?

 

I would say to think of it as your mum instead but if your mum is anything like mine
She would get returned pronto!

It is a good thinking excerise!
Why demand gold/jewelry? it will be basicly worthless! Two cows? with many roaming free why?
The ransom is to suck the best defenders out with the best guns on a stupid quest to rescue a stupid girl!
And it would be expected so the rescue mission would be a complete failure with now a reduced to nearly zero retreat defence force!
The bad guys can surely take the retreat with little opposition and do as they please!
Have set this scenario before and the usual response is to tool up and charge out in a testosterone fueled rescue into prepared enemy!
The first failure leads to the second and last failure! Stupid people do stupid things because they are too stupid to think!
And more guns, more ammo and more training wont change the outcome! just the amount of booty the victors get!

 

Yes agree but teens know better than you (just ask them) and can just disobey at will!
The stupid ones know better as well

 

I have kids, so I know that it is perfectly possible that a scenario like that could take place. Well, I would do anything to get my daughter back (of course) but it would have to be something that I can do without endangering the lives of my other kids. Maybe trade my husband for her? lol... OK seriously, I really don't know what I would do. Food for thought!
