    It always baffle me. Is it so difficult to send the garbage to an industrial incinerator? Incinerating garbage require less energy footprint compare to recycle. The energy footprint can be further reduce if the said incinerator is electric and fed from renewable source.

    Good afternoon Varuna,

    Ref bafflement and your question;

    Yes, it is difficult to get garbage to an incinerator.

    The public sector must contract out the garbage portfolio. Like all else in politics, this type of event is politically charged.

    Energy footprints are not definitive per each category. "Studies" must be obtained. Obtaining studies requires contracts. The contracts must be funded.

    Virginia - imports - garbage from other states. This "importation" of garbage yields revenue streams to a state government that's broke, less the accounting gimmicks.

    Operating costs are one matter. Can you guess how an electric incinerator is capitalized ? This, too, is a political matter requiring competitive bids from contractors (typically; there are exceptions but can't write examples on the web).

    Renewable sources of energy are currently limited - and costly.

    Don't even mention nuclear power generation ! Don't even mention the costs to the public sector for a contractor to handle HAZMAT. This includes medical waste.

    LOL! That bird was tied up with that mask! No visible abrasions on it's legs. No abrasion marks on it's bill and for a young bird that is still being fed by it's parents, it's fat and healthy so it was still on the nest. Shore birds (gulls) nest in colonies. So, someone had to enter the colony and get that bird for there photo shoot. If they returned it, it died since the parents would have left the nest after 24 hours. By that size most gulls only have one surviving chick.

    Two decades+ ago, one East Tennessee landfill would accept outside trash for a fee. Mafia-controlled trash-dumpers began jumping states (illegal) to dump waste that was supposedly free of hazardous materials. This stuff was discovered to have medical waste thrown in (heaven only knows what else?). Many locals (I am super-familiar with these cove folk, even had kin who lived back in there) used well water and when it was discovered that this Mafia-linked company was violating the law and safety standards, they were up in arms (literally) and demanded that it stop. It did not stop ... for a while. Then the locals began shooting into these trucks as they attempted to drive back up into that holler.

    All the men back in there own deer rifles and are excellent shots.

    Rub some folk the wrong way and they will kill you.
