Per ... Article appears as a partial rewrite of other articles but has some new info. If anyone familiar with the mentioned magazine, the hyper link could help many. I personally do not go searching for survival material because it is too much and much is not really survival material. Thus, I rely on the knowledgeable whom I know are knowledgeable.

Note "most preppers ... self-reliant and common sense"

Note "maybe most important, relax and don't panic".

    Note "I told you so".

FULL DISCLOSURE: Some Preppers do, indeed, gloat.

not gloating, just feeling sorry for those that say "nothing bad will ever happen"!!!
the trouble with the 21st century is that most people do not or will not take responsibility for their own survival, most people think technology will save the day, well technology cannot save them from a disease.

I am gloating and that is awful for me to be that way . I have repeatedly tried to get people to prepare for something way worse than a cat 5 hurricane to no avail in most cases . I will like the population reduced planet and sliding backward in time . I am looking for this global economic / supply chain disruption to last for a decade .

depending on how long this goes on I can see it having an economical and supply chain deficiency effect say 6 months or so down the line.

I hope you are right . I am basing my prediction on the results Venezuela has found itself after their oil market tanked out and economy crashed . They have been in their situation around a guess- timated 20 or 30 years . Now all the countries are crashing with no hope of another generous country bailing them out . Each country will have to pull themselves back up with their own shoe laces .

I feel sorrow only for those not having the ability to prepare due to their living in poverty or having an already hellish life and not being able to cope with what's happening now, much less the possibility of a more grim future.

Down deep, you don't feel sorry for most non-preppers. Man, I sure don't.

Why? They've had the money and the time to get ready for life's misfortunes. Even if one is a turbo-optimist, if they possess an IQ over that of a squid, they know of "downturns", bad weather, recessions, ... . Life has its ups and downs -- sometimes in the extreme. Everyone should understand and act upon reality.

Again, as to why?, many urbanites are overtly arrogant. They look down upon the people who grow their food, provide them energy, make their life possible in general. Urbanites make the assumption that all of this is "their right". They fret over that at which we laugh. Who doesn't hate arrogance?! Part of the religion of political correctness is the worship of the "oppressed". Thing is, people who worship oppressed people need to have a constant supply of oppressed people so that their religious rantings can continue. These urbanites should be themselves helping poor people, should themselves be readying to help their own selves when bad times roll around.

    But they don't.

They want you and I to pay higher taxes to "feed the children". We all know that tax dollars flow into urban political machines. Some monies might trickle down to those in need. One knows these things unless he is terminally naive.

I've always supported my family. Why should I have any respect for those who won't support their family yet drive nicer cars than do I and who have all manner of bling hanging around their necks!? And why should I respect looters!?

In the USA, the party of one half of the nation is cursing the current administration for its handling of this C19 viral spread, when during their own occupation of the White House, they did far worse. And as to "protecting" our nation, the opposition party wants tens of millions of peasants to flow in. The opposition says that we can simply print more money to provide housing and healthcare for most of the poor people on Earth.

I and tens of millions of others are well beyond angry at the arrogant urbanites. I do not wish my family to be infected with c19, nor to be infected with the insanity of the Left. I certainly do not want my grandchildren to be contaminated by these enemies of our Constitution, these enemies of God.

I feel no sorrow for them. I feel no sorrow for them. I feel no sorrow for them.

Truth be told, I want the redistributionists to be eaten by their own. Let the urban ghettos empty into the suburbs and offices of the Left and feed.

for most people prepping does not align with 21st century living, people live differently and have a fast paced stressful lifestyle.

    Good morning Lonewolf,

Are there really any big differences between and among the 21st century, the 20th century and the late 19th century (era with some industrialization eg the railroads, streetcars, municipal street lights) ?

Pre FEMA, the "old" Civil Defense environment had the citizenry familiar with what was called "home economics" and a first aid kit. Today, both are elaborate modifications. Home repair materials and tools were not required because most lived in rental apartments, less the rural areas. Only post WWII was there large-scale domicile ownership.

The stresses of working pre-WWII could not be that different than the 21st century. The diseases, the wars, the economic problems, the high-rise tenement living, ... similar stresses to today's 21st century.

I live in an area where all the above eras can be seen. The Chesapeake Bay used to have a sophisticated water taxi service, with overnight trip eg Portsmouth, Virginia to/from Baltimore, local water taxi trips, the later railroad/trolley has remnants here.

Everything changed but everything's the same. Someone worked in the hardware store and it's gone. Now there are the big box replacement stores - all generating the same types of stresses.

    Financial worries: the same.
    Health worries: the same.
    Family worries: the same.
    Education problems: the same.

To make a point via a specific example to the general - occasionally it's acceptable - my kids are working full time 6 days a week (with much telecommuting) with similar stresses I had when working. They are prepared as per the stuff we discuss here on the Forum. They are as prepared as can be expected. Guidance comes from your colleague - Prepper here: me.

I use different definitions of "poor", downtrodden", "charity" and the related. Much of America's problem, besides being a socialist mercantile society, is that much (most ?) of our population is hedonistic (pleasure seekers).

    ...............

The problems of this pandemic is that the planning and funds (repeat: funds) were diverted to salary and payrolls with all the nieces and nephews employed. A shortage of hospital masks and gowns ?! After WTC 911, this was planned for. Don't ask about the funding. It was present.

"Let them freeze in the dark".

STRESS seems to be a part of 21st century living, I don't remember EVER being stressed in my working life( apart from 2 divorces but that was "self" inflicted!!), when I started work anybody who wanted a job could have a job but these days redundancies and lay offs seem to happen daily(I mean in general not because of Corona virus shutdowns).
nobody has a job for life anymore.

    YES. BIG differences.

I was raised by these people. Grandparents born in 1890s and 1900s (before 1910). Parents born in 1920s.

Add their stories with their brothers' and sisters' stories and you get a lad (me) with hundreds of stories in his head. Plus, they taught me their ways. I lived with and was created by them. I've helped my grandma on washing day (blue Monday) God only knows how many times. She had a wringer machine built in the 1930s. I've hunted and fished with them. As a lad, I counted the gambling machine money in the old time night spots. I knew those of an era before me. I learned their best and their worst.

Their "fast times" were slower than today's "leisure times". Note that they thought about their actions. They were deliberate in their actions. Back then, screwing up your life meant that there was a good chance that you would die long before growing old.

What I witness in this day and age is a bunch of grown-up children soiling their pants. I see next to zero responsibility. I am heartened when I see pockets of honorable civilization, honorable people. All the cities of today are lost.

    Good afternoon Old Geezer,

From the - macro - view ... the large picture, are there really BIG differences in re family life ?

Whereas today the US has over half it's population getting a government check of some sort ... we live in a different economic order than earlier of course ... the stresses are about the same.

Today, for example, does not have the pre WWII (and a little post WWII) long range snipers involved in labor-management relations. Organized labor faded from the scene and replaced with other organizations involved in dangerous stress events.

Pre WWII did not have the mysterious small aircraft crashes like this era.

The financial worries, the health worries, the family (depending on configuration), the education problems, there's no big differences to the stresses of post agricultural life in the US.

People used to be FAR more self-sufficient.
    Families had fathers.
    The work ethic was strong.
    People were not as stressed.
    People had spirituality.

Stress: People used to believe that there was purpose in life and that one's soul had purpose after the death of the corporeal body (butterfly leaving cocoon paradigm). The era of McCarthyism also saw McCarthy go down in flames. Nowadays paranoia is the order of the day. The anti-religion Secular Humanist press spreads paranoia to further their agenda. The MSM is the new McCarthyism that will not shut up. Today's McCarthyism outs people who do not worship government, who believe in God, those who refuse to kowtow to the anti-culture of infanticide, sexual perversity, the something-for-nothing-existence. Turn on the opium-box and all you will hear is the screeching of the damned.

Stampeding Americans before the 1960s was possible, yet it took real effort.
Stampeding the sheeple of today is super easy.

Your stressing me out here Olde Geezer....

This has shades of my nightmare dream of being stuck on that Desert Island with some 400 High Maintenance whiners who only know how to text and expect...yea...demand... that someone else take the risks and set up the buffet line for them to show up...make messes and someone else also clean up after them.

Had similar in real life after Hurricane Isabelle...in taking in some 8 people...
Didn't take long for them to make messes and just basically pit stop on my dime.

I don't plan to do that again....and haven't......nice guys finish last and all that.

I have two bottles of hand sanitizer in my work locker which have been there for a few years. I use it only on occasion.
It suddenly occurred to me that stuff is now gold.
Also have several large refill bottles of that stuff here ...and been here for years...again gold..like TP.

Preppers have made some kind of preps for years in constructing for themselves some kind of survival Ark....I don't feel sorry for those people..who were having fun ...going to and fro the Outer Banks or prepping for tonight's game on television....so often in good times and did not prep...until the doors of the Ark were closing.

Gave the lecture to someone the other day who knows I reload 5.56mm...and did not purchase long ago....now is in panic as it is not readily available....another Outer Banks type..

    High Maintenance Ishmaelites.

    Ishmaelites run wild.....
