   Very interesting; an 18th century bazooka. Did those guys ever use hearing protection? I would think after 2 or 3 shots you would be stone deaf.

   No, hands over the ears or fingers in the ears if you had free hands & standing nearby. Same with cannon fire. But it is a long barrel, & does not have that high pitched crack sound you get with smokeless powder.
