I have a Henry 22 long rifle which I dearly love to shoot ❣️ I'm very accurate with most firearms but with my Henry, even more so. There's literally no "kick" & I'm "dead on" at most distances incl. a little over 100 yards. Anyone else who might own a Henry 22 Cal rifle, would love to hear your input❣️

I haven't any time to write right now, but I am ever so looking forward to reading everyone's contributions. I love accuracy. I love .22 rifles. I own a bunch. Different purpose = different rifle.

Grandfather put food in table with his revolver -- he was deadly with a handgun. For my dad, it was the pool cue. I've seen dad shoot billiards and I've watched Willie Mosconi shoot. OK, so Willie was a bit better at shooting pool. If you watched Jackie Gleason in "The Hustler", then you've met my dad. The two guys looked a whole lot alike, big heavy guys, big thick hands.

Me, I live small bore rifle shooting, high school rifle team captain, all that. Anschutz target rifles to plinking rifles, I love them, I own them. I always love learning more about them.

I love .22 LR guns! I have two 10-22's: one an 18" takedown and another one with a bull-barrel, 3 X 9 scope and a Kidd trigger. I would like someday to tap a 1/2" X 28 TPI thread onto the takedown's breech so I could install a suppressor, but I don't know if a subsonic LR cartridge would cycle the action.

Needless to say, if I had one choice of a survival rifle it would definitely be one in .22LR.

The subsonic rounds likely wouldn't cycle your 10-22 though I'd like to try the Agulilla 60 grain rounds in mine. Would it really matter though? If your 10-22 was a silent single shot or a quieter semiautomatic there would still be a benefit.

I was under the impression that a lot of target grade .22 long rifle ammo was subsonic...versus the high velocity stuff.

Best way to find out would be to run some subsonic through a 10-22 without a suppressor and find out if it will properly cycle.

That is also why I have switched over the years to bolt actions, lever rifles, and pumps to where I control the cycling....not the ammo.

I have a 5/8 -24 die and also a 1/2 - 28....as well as taps for the same. That is a very fine thread pitch.

Also over time I want to get several re crowning tools.

From video's I have watched (YMMV) many subsonic ammo's will cycle a 10-22. CCI standard velocity ammo is rated at 1070 FPS (according to my memory) and that is below the sound barrier, depending on your location. Caribou is correct that if the ammo will cycle the action without a suppressor, then you should be good to go with a suppressor. The suppressor will create more back pressure to help cycle the action, at least that is my understanding. Worth testing out a few boxes of subsonic ammo. You can always build your own suppressor AFTER WROL event.

I just bought some subsonic .22 LR ammo made for semi-autos. I've a .22 LR target rifle, bull barrel, and I run subsonic ammo through it. Cycles fine. Target handgun also I have.

Ammo that is down at or below 800 ft/sec, now that stuff will put you at risk of getting failures to cycle.

I just bought some of the following "target" ammo (plinking for me, nowadays). This ammo is just above 800 ft/sec and I've yet to test it. It is 45 grains which gives me more confidence. :

One can always have faith in Eley ammo. You'll pay for it, however if you really care about accuracy then you'll cough up the dough.

The Agulilla 60 grainers will keyhole when fired out of some handguns and rifles. If you have this ammo, test in in several of your weapons. Don't trust it unless you have tested it. But if you are nuking small game at very short distance, it'll work. The 60 grain, long, slow bullet seems to be over the limit of what one can get by with reliably.

Firearms are like females, they are not all a like and they will all appreciate different things. Old Geezer is correct, test, test and then test some more. Find the ammo that works best, in each firearm.
