Early indians in america used stone tools. When whiteman came they were introduced to metal few were able to make metal even after whiteman came as whiteman knew it was a big advantage over the indians a early axe was stone not metal in trade the indians were gave poor quality tools that were mostly junk i live in a area that is great to find indian artifacts after feilds are worked and itt rains is a great time to look for them i have a good collection of tools and arrowheads but have hunted for them since i was a kid my grandfather showed me

I beg to differ re poor quality trade items, many of these same items were used by the whites, & there was strong competition between the French & the English to gain the majority of trade, so it did not pay to trade inferior items. There may however have been some unscrupulous individual traders trading inferior items, but they would not last long & would only get away with it once! The Indians were very clear on the sort of standard they expected from the traders & anything less was not acceptable.
The whites thought they had it all over the natives because what the whites traded was inexpensive in comparison to the furs they recieved in trade. But the Indians had access to plenty of animals skins & thought the whites foolish to trade steel tomahawks, knives, guns & blankets for something that they considered the whites could very well have trapped themselves.

Of recent I had my home coated with vinyl siding. Under this siding was put some insulation. I was dubious about how good would be the insulating properties. To my surprise it was noticeable. Some years back I had better windows installed and now between the new windows and this insulation underneath this siding ....it is noticeable in the dead of winter as to how well it is working out.

This is a significant improvement over previous conditions....as far as heating.

We shall see about air conditioning effectiveness in the summer months.

Planning to look into a supply of 25 year storage dried food supplies here soon.

While I have some supplies put back, they are no where near 25 year shelf life.

    Thanks,

We will be getting some new fowls in a month or so. Holes are dug for posts to add the workshop extension. Might get that done today. Purchased a whole heap of roofing iron & second hand timbers.

Stopped by a prepper store to look at ...ask questions ..and see what they had in 25 year shelf life foods.

Going to do some more research before purchasing...will be a cash transaction.

I don't want a paper trail on this stuff.

We're thinking about putting back some noodles tomorrow. I've got some O2 absorbing packs that need to get used ... like right now! Eating tasty food is a reason to go on, I guess. Speaking of such, I need a midnight snack. Man, I'm hungry. Cookies! We need milk, crap. This cortisone is making me hungry -- been on it too long. Inflammation is killing me, ... literally. Now it's hell-drugs plus cortisone. If they are going to kill me, I wish they'd hurry up.

Jars of pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce keep for a good while ... months anyway. We go through a lot of tomato pastes. Garlic, need garlic.

Cookies for long term survival? Who has put back candies or shortbread or whatever? Sugar -- no problem. Dried fruit -- no problem. Kool-Aid -- no problem. Ideas?

I'm surrounded by nine millimeter firearms right now. Are they out to get me?! Uh oh! Liberals tell us that we are threatened by "gun violence". Apparently these things can think for themselves. Just get up and shoot you, whatever. But, I've been nice to them, though. Hope they'll take that into consideration. Back in the safe, girls! Time for bed, my brain is going dead.

Had doctors appointment this morning ...all is well.

On the way home I stopped by Wal Mart to get some of those Dr. Scholl s shoe insert cushions for my boots. Bought 8 pairs of them ...most to put back. Will be getting some more soon.

While there I also scooted by the ammo locker and found to my surprise that they had in stock .22 long rifle. I bought two boxes of 333 rounds each and will be putting them back in storage. I will get some more of these as well when time allows.

Picked up a few groceries to take to work...canned soups and such to put in my locker. A woman co worker solved the problem for me about how to keep packs of crackers from crumbling down to nothing before I use them. She eats all the Pringles in on of those tall cans and then puts the pack of saltine crackers in the Pringles containers and then into her back pack.

Simplicity itself..I appreciate her lesson on this and bought two packs of Pringles. Will eat them and use the cans...similar to how I use a Gatorade bottle for a water container...it is heavily constructed.

I don't even like Gatorade....I buy it for the bottle and pour it out..only using the bottle until I need to replace it.
I am not even that crazy about Pringles. May feed them to the birds.

    Thanks,

Yesterday we bought another truck, a 4x4 diesel Triton. Bull bar, tow bar, wide wheels, long range fuel tank, tool box, racks & a light bar. This will replace our Lada Niva & will make it easier collecting firewood in the forest. I won't need to use the trailer so it will make it easier to get into difficult places.

Same here mate, but I can't recall hearing of a single case where a matchlock, wheellock or flintlock pistol was used to commit a crime. Not in the last 200 years or so anyway! So how come they are restricted here ???!!!

    Keith...

That is because your own government will not trust you with a gun...even a primitive firearm....and must needs "Restrict " you.

I call that .."Herding." You must needs be properly herded as a human being because you cannot be trusted to make decisions for yourself.

    So......Keith..

If you cannot be trusted with a gun....of any kind.....why would your government ...or any political system ever trust you with a vote????

Think that through awhile...let it settle in....

I watch all the drama queens here on the news and think the same....

We have guns Chris, but hand guns are restricted to club range use only. No matter how we vote, there are only two main parties. Both are corrupt. A no win situation for the people.

Micro-manager types have brain problems. Not kidding. They do. Neurotransmitter issues. They require SSRI meds. Again, hand wringers are mentally ill.

Then there are the Evil control freaks who are not mental. They are mean and wish to keep other people down so as to make rape, mayhem, and murder easier for them to commit while occupying their offices in government. These people enjoy hurting other people. The pain of others brings them pleasure. Anyone wishing any form of self protection, or God-forbid, the ability to oppose oppression, must be controlled or eliminated.

Government, the centralization of power in any form, brings forth the slimy salamanders straight up and out of Hell. With poisoned tongue they will eat your young.

Yes, armed self defence is illegal in Australia. So many attacks, muggings, car jackings, home invasions, rapes & murder & we are left defenceless by order of the Australian government!!! Basically you have a choice in such a situation, you can either be a victim, or a criminal !

Agree...a no win situation for the people.

Someone is trying slowly and steadily to institute just such an system here in America. A system which will make us "Subjects" with privileges granted by the sovereign and not Citizens with rights granted by God.

Someone wants here to reverse the jurisdiction....the starting point. God or men.

I am well aware of the history behind "Divine Right of Kings and or Absolute Power" and where this begins ...and where it leads.

Someone here in America is working very hard to make us into Englishmen and or Continentals..by making sure none of us know any history and in particular American history and why we are different from most nations and people on this globe.

This constant attempt at "Herding " the American people in favor of government is becoming noticeable...to the point where some of us can recognize the extremely incestuous relationship between our media, public education, Hollywood, and Washington DC....and now even sports..working against the citizenship/Rights of Americans.

And private ownership of guns as a Right ...not a privilege granted by government is one of the severe thorns in the side of those who would make us like Englishmen and or Continentals.
Someone wants us to become Ishmaelites...in bondage with her children....not after Isaac and his Seed....Singular.

Once again....I stand by my previous statement ...if you cannot be trusted with a gun...you will never be trusted with a vote.

Someone here is clearly trying to rig both marketplaces....against the American People towards creating a private fiefdom.

I will tell you Keith H...that I have a great affinity to English History and in particular the English Civil War and Oliver Cromwell.
For with the beheading of Charles 1st...Cromwell and the Roundheads put a end to "Divine right of Kings ."

Since that time governments have tried various ways to sneak it back into these governmental systems of absolute power under different guises....Socialism, Marxism, New World Order or any other pabulum you care to name. But it is always the same thing....more power in the hands of government and less freedom and liberty to the people.

For I know that when the Founding Fathers of this nation worked on their Declaration of Independence ...they looked to history for a example..a precedent of a nation and people ...if there was a record of a people turning on their king....and with Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil war....the history said ...yes...there was...just such an historical precedent.
That an ordinary people would turn on their king.
    Cromwell had settled that issue.

This is one of the reasons history is such an poorly taught subject today...for we are never to know this history and the issue which Oliver Cromwell and the Roundheads put to rest.
Absolute Power and Divine Right of Kings.

    Citizens verses Subjects.

This is the source of our concept of "Limited Government."
To not be like "Absolute Power and Divine Right of Kings.

And our government has been trying sneakily and privily to get around this concept of "Limited Government" to become like the rest of the world...like Englishmen and Continentals.

Oh....by the way ..I've never tried goose. I shall have to try it one day.

For things to return to a semblance of normal -- let us call this "right-living", or living in accordance with the laws of Divinity, the Natural Laws of Nature -- the cancer of human ego must be burned off the planet. For this to happen, God will likely rid the Earth's surface of the cities that have sullied creation. I can see the Big Guy putting His cigarette out on NY, NY, burning everything from Washington D.C. to Boston.

I can see the Lord putting on His boots and stomping north out of Baja California. I can see Him dig his heel into Los Angeles and grinding side to side to make that cancer bleed like a stuck hog. Here He goes striding up Hwy 1 and here comes San Jose, San Fransisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Sacramento. Stomp stomp crunch crunch stomp stomp ... His dance of Death is just getting started. Fun fun! Portland, STOMP! Seattle, STOMP! His enemies all die. Tens of millions, hundreds of millions perish, His dance is frenetic! He let's his little boy Shiva go on and kill kill kill! Cleanliness awakens! The smell of tainted humans is washed out to sea. Goodness returns!

The screaming of the damned is music to my ears!

I recent months, my plans to get out of rapidly deteriorating Las Vegas, NV and get to rural Western SD or rural Northern AZ are finally being implemented. All I need is to land a decent job--and I'm gone! My research shows that CA and NV will be the worst places to be when it all goes south.

Bought an Aloe Vera plant today and potted it. I like growing Aloe. Good medicinal plant to have around and inexpensive and easy to grow.

Driving lots of mountain bike to keep fit. Working out splendidly!

I have spent the last year or more fighting for my life. Someone caved my skull in three times and I do not remember a thing about that day. At first I could not tell you what I had for breakfast. No memory at all. It is a wonder I am able to tap these buttons as fast as I could before the brain damage. I think part of it is being so hardheaded, in more ways than one! When my family told me I would get it all back, I asked them if they thought they were doctors. well, they were right. My older brother said, "I know you. You have ben through chemo twice. You didn't give up then. And you're not going to give up now."

I didn't give up! The first time my brother took me shooting (I didn't have my driver license back yet), I couldn't hit anything. Now, I am back to shooting coke cans at 100 yards with my .44 mag revolvers. It took about 1,000 rounds, but I'm back! It's a good thing I reload. Couldn't afford to shoot that much.

I must tell anyone who is going through hell, to never give up! Millions of Americans have fought, killed, suffered, and died for our freedom and the freedom of the World. They won. Because they didn't give up!

My father's generation stopped the Japanese from slowly dissecting American soldiers while they were alive and awake. From cutting women's breasts off while they were tied to posts. (They laughed in front of the cameras and pointed at their victims.) His generation stopped the Nazis from murdering millions more Jews. Now they would be called hicks and racists because they own guns.

American gun owners did that!!! They stopped the murder of tens of millions! Men who grew up hunting and shooting during the Depression. FDR, who wanted to take all our guns, sent a shipload of Jewish children back to Hitler to die! His gun laws were NOT about saving lives. It was about taking tools of freedom from us.

Charlton Hesston, the famous actor, marched with DR King. He later became the leader of the NRA. And he got death threats for that. He got more threats after he was supporting the NRA. The NRA helped DR King get a shotgun, when no one would sell him one. Now the NRA is being called racist! Insane! Freedom is not free! There are young brainwashed children in America who will give up freedom for social programs and gun laws. They are spiting on the graves of tens of millions of freedom fighters. Freedom is not free! Please do not give it away without a fight!

    same here John Grit...

I reload my own ammunition too...and for the same reason. Affordability. I have found over time that I enjoy my time at the reloading bench as much as my time at the shooting bench.

I did not know that about the NRA helping Dr King get a shotgun. Good for them and Dr. King.

Lots of people out here have a great need to justify their positions and thoughts/insecurities by manufacturing a bad guy to pick on and direct their emotions....without thinking...only emotions.

Not for me thanks. I do not like to be around two legged wildlife.

I bought 250 rounds of +P 38 special jhp ammo for the wifes Taurus 85 snub nose and for us to polish up our shooting skills. I'm probably going to polish the action some more and put three finger hogue grips on it for her. We are going legal Sunday and get our concealed carry licenses. I've been carrying for years. With the election of Trump I feel a little more secure dealing with the Washington level government than I have for a long time. I carry a Ruger LC9 Pro in the small of my back and am getting her a concealed carry purse.

The UpLula magazine loader does work well -- 9mm to .45 does, anyway. Getting ready for some serious range-blasting, this device will become your thumb's best buddy. Spring getting HEAVY out at 30 rnds, no problem. Load your first round by hand -- the push down device can scratch the follower so already have a round there to take any minor scratch.

My wife and I went today and did our License to carry and conceal a weapon class. It was pretty interesting and brought us up to date of the exact laws concerning carry and also the legal use of lethal force. My wife and I both did real well on the shooting practical and passed without a problem.

I ended up shooting the Ruger LC9 Pro which I had not planned on. I had planned on going old school and shoot my Ruger Security 6 357 mag but my wife and I were shooting at the same time so I let her use the revolver and I got my little ruger out. I have not shot it much and besides it was never intended as any sort of target gun.

Nonetheless I managed to keep all my shots in the middle inside the 8 ring. Actually as I shot and the distances got longer my accuracy improved. I suspect that is part the gun breaking in and part me getting used to its feel and sight picture. I see us doing a lot more shooting now and working on our response speed and target acquisition skills. I'm thinking about a membership at the gun range where we were shooting. It was an exceptionally nice indoor range with all the amenities.

We added a new shelf system for more food storage. Did some re-organizing for a place for more hard liquor. And plans for the future are to completely convert the large walk-in closet we are using downstairs. We plan on installing built in shelving all the way around.

Ordered a Surecom SR-112 simplex (store and forward type) repeater and the cables to connect it to either my handheld radios or our FT-2900 base and mobile. According to Amazon the last cable I was waiting for is sitting in my mailbox, but that's about 4 miles from here so I have to take their word for it for now. Looking forward to testing it out over the coming weekend, if it works according to the plan then I should be able to hike a couple miles East of my home with a HT/walkie-talkie and communicate with the wife up to 16 miles West of our house when she's in the truck. We'll see, these projects rarely go as planned on the first attempt.

Received the simplex repeater, I like it! Didn't test to the full 16 miles we should be able to get, but with me in the yard with a handheld about 200 yards from the house and the wife in her truck almost 5 miles away - worked like a charm. This was across flat terrain, and through medium heavy forest. Our base antenna at the house is at about 60' high so this is well within our range for base to mobile, the only difference is with the repeater parroting the transmissions anyone in the group gets the benefit of using our antenna at the house to increase their range when needed. Remote controlled, with a password, to turn it on or off so I updated and printed out new commo 'cheat sheets' so we have the codes to operate it with every radio.

Pretty small for what it does, it's new home in a re-purposed plastic case for storage:

This is it connected to the base radio, didn't connect the repeater to the power supply, it has an internal Li-Ion battery that's supposed to be good for a couple days of use between chargings.

Not done playing with it yet, but this looks like a real game changer for us. Our group is often scattered over distances of about 3-5 miles apart, too far for our heldheld radios to communicate through a forest, so the only way to stay in touch was with a person at the base radio in the house who could communicate with everyone and relay messages. Now with the repeater there's no need for a person on 'radio watch' at the house, we can talk to the others who are miles away with only handheld radios. More testing is definitely required.

And, just after receiving the repeater I got an email from ShopMedVet.com for a sale on liquidation items. Shouldn't have clicked the link, but these guys have good sales usually so I couldn't resist. They sell mostly veterinary supplies, but a lot of it is the same as used for humans - just less expensive. Picked up some casting material (12 rolls of cast padding and 5 rolls of fiberglass casting tape):

We have some ortho braces and SAM splints, but this is a much better solution for a broken bone (human or canine).

And two boxes of abdominal pads (40), a box of eye pads (50), and 6 bottles of wound packing gauze:

We've already got a pretty good stock of gauze bandages and dressings but couldn't pass on their sale prices, about $16 IIRC for the items in the pic above. https://www.shopmedvet.com/category/product-liquidation-sale/?r=LIQ&p=LIQ if anyone is interested.

Well today I was at wal mart and got a few items for my bug out bag. This included a complete sewing kit that I modified to carry the bigger needles for leather items and changed out the threat for my kevlar black thread. Also decided to start carrying a folding pocket knife with 8 tools attaching it to my keys.. They go every where I go.

I put in an orchard a couple of years ago. This year I'll only pick half the blossoms so we should have apples, pears, plums, and cherries.
Yesterday the strawberries and tomatoes, and today the lettuce gets planted. The blackberries are right behind that.

We are fencing our land with good wire fencing that will let us turn the dogs out to cover the entire 3 acres. we will probably put a strand on top of the wire fencing and I may "wire" it for electric fencing that I can power with batteries if I have to. With the dogs running that should also keep the rabbits, deer and other garden thieves at bay.

TD, power it with capacitors and batteries. Batteries power up the capacitor and the capacitor provide the charge (knock them on their butt charge). I believe even a very small solar panel can be used to charge the capacitors and provide enough power to really energize the live wire. Something to look into, maybe.
