Where to build a permanent location

So you need to build a permanent location now that you are in an area you want to settle down in, stay in or are stuck in due to the situation at hand. So, where do you start, what do you do, and where do you build. For starters, you are going to want to find a remote location, you do not want to be around too many people as this can make your little village an easy target but you also don’t want to be all alone either, unless you have a shelter that is sure to be undetected. So where would one find this prime location?
The best place to start is not going to right in the city; you are going to want to look in the country. Think wooded areas, forest, and cabin style living, away from the mainstream but not too far. You will want to check for access to fresh drinking water, is there food in the area like berries, veggies or animals to hunt or fish? Will getting supplies be an easy task or a challenging one, and if it’s going to be a hard task, do you have a way to transport your items to your permanent location or enough access to supplies in the area you are building to be sufficient? Is there enough wood in the area accessible to you with the tools that you have so that you can stock up and store it, keeping it dry for burning. Having access to the bare basics is one of the most important aspects to consider when building your permanent location for survival. One of the final things to consider when selecting your location is your perimeter; this needs to be an area that you can build your shelter within safely, with access to food, water and wood while being able to watch your surroundings so that you are not caught off guard. You are going to want to be able to see who, what and when something is closing in on your shelter and location.
